Posted in Dub Step on January 11, 2010 by E.N.

Joy Orbison – The Shrew EP incl.Actress Remix- Aus Music
Release date 22.02.2010
Both ‘The Shrew’ and ‘So Derobe’ pick up where ‘Hyph Mngo’ blasted off from….devilishly catchy melodies and basslines full of feeling and soul evolve and grow as the arrangement’s develop, leaving you on an almighty high. Big drops, super heavy drum programming and grooves that sound like only Joy Orbison right now. There’s shades of garage, shades of funky, shades of old school R&B. Pete wears his influences on his sleeve yet re-wraps them in his own unmistakable, imitable and truly unique style.

FACT mix 114: Sully

Posted in Dub Step, Electronic, Fact, Funky, Podcast on January 11, 2010 by E.N.

“My view is that he’s a genius” – Grievous Angel

We don’t know much about Sully. Most people don’t. Discogs claims he’s one half of drum’n’bass duo Spectrasoul, but this might not be true.

What we do know about Sully is that he’s something special. Nicknamed the King of Swing amongst dubstep heads that know, his ‘Phonebox’ single from 2008 is one of FACT’s very favourite dancefloor jams of the past few years, and it’s one of several underground, overlooked bangers to Sully’s name.

The next step in the Sully story takes the form of a 12″ for Martin ‘Blackdown’ Clark’s Keysound label, who also have released / will be releasing singles by Skream, LHF, Kowton and Zomby. “Sully is a really key artist for me”, Clark told FACT in a recent interview.

“With all the talk about garage and the new hybrids of it … his ‘The Loot Remix’ is speed garage but ‘In Some Pattern’ is a perfect example of how you can have a swung 2step framework but go in completely different directions with it, in this case part 80s electro part detuned synth/purple wow.” Both tracks are featured on the aforementioned 12″.

Anyone with half an interest in swinging, percussive garage and gorgeous, enveloping melodies should have a full interest in Sully’s FACT mix – it features new, untitled productions from your man, plus fresh material from Kowton, Sbtrkt and more.

Download: FACT mix 114 – Sully (Available for three weeks)

Tracklist:

Sbtrkt & Sampha – Break Off (Ramp)
Sully – Untitled
Sully – In Some Pattern (Keysound)
Kowton – Stasis (G Mix) (Keysound)
Sully – Untitled
LV ft. Errol Bellot – Don’t Judge (Fantastic Mr Fox Mix) (2nd Drop)
Emma – Rainbow Dust Pt II
Desto – Lost Bits
KingThing – Different Spin (Furioso)
Sully – Untitled

FACT mix 113 – Rolo Tomassi

Posted in Fact, Podcast on January 11, 2010 by E.N.

FACT mix takes the form of a session from Rolo Tomassi, the Sheffield-born band who’ve just finished recording their second album with US super-producer Diplo.

The band made their name on the back of their raucous live shows and various cassette / CD-R releases on James Spence (keyboardist, vocalist and compiler of this mix)’s Mayday label, including split releases with Cutting Pink With Knives and Mirror! Mirror!

They eventually signed to Holy Roar records (sometime home of Gallows, Dananananaykroyd and more), and released debut album Hysterics. More live dates followed, including the Shred Yr Face 2 tour with Fucked Up and The Bronx, and in October ’09 they flew to LA to record their second album with Diplo, the boss of Mad Decent and one half of Major Lazer.

Deadbeat- Radio Rothko ( March 1, 2010)

Posted in News on January 11, 2010 by E.N.

Deadbeat will release a new mix CD called Radio Rothko on Brooklyn’s The Agriculture imprint later this year.

Comprising artists such as DeepChord, Monolake, Quantec and Pendle Coven, Radio Rothko presents a healthy mix of dub techno’s classics and contemporaries, with a notable emphasis on the work of Basic Channel’s Mark Ernestus and Moritz von Oswald. The mix takes advantage of the music’s spacious and atmospheric nature, bubbling up into a more dance floor-friendly centre before showcasing the dubbier end of the dub techno spectrum.
