The vocal & instrumental of “I Need You” are both on one side of this single. The flip side contains an etching by Miami illustrator Freegums, who we hooked up with a couple months back for the Mayer Hawthorne x Huf T-shirt & song collaboration. The record is packaged in plastic with a 12×12 insert.

Mayer Hawthorne explains the story behind this record:

“I met Nottz at Nightlife’s Dilla Tribute in L.A. and we just kept in contact. I had always been a fan of Nottz since the 90s. He sent me a bunch of beats and at first I had no idea what to do with any of them, but eventually it hit me. I sang a hook for him on his album as well.

The song is a cover of a cat named Otis Leavill which is one of my all time fav soul sides, but relatively unknown 45. I don’t think Nottz even knew it. I actually even made up some of the words because no one could make out what he said in the original. ha!

When Nottz sent me that batch – that particular beat stood out. It had the same chord progression as the Otis Leville, so I just went with it.”

Adam Jackson AKA Kidkut has played a major part in Bristol’s music scene over recent years with his Immerse label releasing consistently outstanding music from the likes of Kontext, Benga, & Late to name but a few. Now Jackson is teaming up with leading imprint Apple Pips for the release of his own much awaited debut single. Apple Pips is the brainchild of Laurie Osborne AKA Appleblim who has made the label one of the most desirable dubstep/electronica imprints out there featuring music from Martyn, Ramadanman, Brackles, Instra:mental & more. Kidkut’s single kicks off with the pointedly titled ‘ILove04’, a percussive roller that combines elements of broken beat, UK Funky, & early dubstep, with snippets of garage vocals and intense twisted bass. The arrangement cuts and flows perfectly, chopping between rhythms and melodic parts with the breakdown giving a definite nod of the head to oldskool hardcore. The flipside sees Kidkut going totally tropical with the magnificent ‘Lilt’, a percussive workout built around intricate drums and rolling bass that underpin the euphoric summer inspired synth lines. Bringing to mind the stripped down work of Karizma, this is sure to go down well with the Funky heads, indeed Bok Bok is already supporting the tune.

California is becoming the hub for an emerging mutant strain of dubstep that combines glitch, old school coastal rave breaks, and outdoor sound system culture. Think Burning Man meets Road Warrior and you’ve only begun to scratch the surface of the engine that drives veteran MalLabel recording artists Blackheart. Hailing from San Francisco, this pair of ne’er-do-wells certainly brings the hammer down with tough beats on this seven track mini LP, teaming up with some of the US dubstep scene’s biggest talents Bukkha, Ceeker, and Rastatronics to indulge in a festival of paint peeling bass lines and coarse synth melodies. But Blackheart also has the skills to make it funky, laying down hard core hyphy beats that pay close attention to the ghettotech pioneers from Detroit and the new school cats from Baltimore. But what makes these guys so amazing is their synth work – this album is comprised entirely of melodies sculpted out of pure techno influences – from old R&S to new Perlon; Blackheart hasn’t forgotten that dubstep is still music for dancing. “Creature Funk” opens the album with raunchy, chuggy, driving stepper while “Dialers,” “Madhouse,” and “Kik Mah Boots” provide the straight-forward, driving anthems.

Formed in 2007, the San Francisco duo BLACKHEART has a unique vision of dubstep filtered through through the classic coastal break sound and the West Coast’s ubiquitous outdoor sound system culture, While their sound may be difficult to categorize, their ability to pack and rock a dance floor is undeniable. Each member has a diverse history in San Francisco’s electronic dance music scene, and as BLACKHEART have taken root in the burgeoning West Coast dubstep scene. Stacked against the summer’s dance-inducing releases, “Down By The Water”  is a breath of fresh air.  Paring the production down to a slow bass line, light percussion, and a distant synthesizer, the most pronounced instrument is Jonny Pierce’s voice, which opens softly and elevates to a sharp croon. The minimalist production however, does not negate the intensity of the lyrics. “Down By The Water” is a love song. “Everybody’s gotta love someone, but I just want to love you dear… you’ve got to believe me when I say the words forever,”pleads Pierce.

The Drums have been wowing European audiences for the better part of the last year, and now they’re bringing their electrifying live show to North America on a co-headlining tour with Surfer Blood!  The band is currently in the midst of a massive worldwide tour and the North American dates are sure to be the most explosive yet! The album is out now digitally in the US and will be available in stores September 14th.

Logo is a what-s-the-point duo. They can’t sing and have nothing to prove. Engaging and impassive, they settle for the sight of modern life: from its fake veneer to its faded wallpaper. They don’t laugh or make fun of this observation. This is why Logo decided to start passive resistance.

Hugues is a student. At university, he is told that with a bit of self-sacrifice, he will be out of reach. But he already knew that. So in order to compensate all this love, at night he reads. More withdrawn from reality, Thomas smiles from time to time and thinks. More in images than in words.

Both a cynical and a playful consumer product, Logo matches perfectly well the market’s requirements since it embodies with dynamism the new design of a world with unchanged values. In the future, only shapes can transform.

So to take part in this global apathy, to make up for this lack of ideals, and to propel their adventure in a contemporary future, they lock themselves up. They settle in a bedroom and plug their material, manipulate small round buttons, press on white or black keys and fiddle with some rhythms with easy to use software. They don’t know each other very well, they met more a less a year ago, but they often play together or compose by email. At 23 years old, they have been through everything, but they haven’t seen anything yet.

They are not interested in fitting in the landscape. Belonging, what’s the point, what for?
They have some past references but let’s say that it’s not intentional. For Logo, conforming to tradition in order to spread one’s good bad taste is a waste of time that electronic music’s immediateness can make up for. Simplicity and logic are Logo’s ephemeral aesthetics’ mammals. The writing is not narrative, the speech does not have a say. Logo does not tell stories.

Things start speeding up when one fine day, Maison Kitsuné’s web navigator comes across www.myspace.com/wearelogo. The groove is young, the ambition is fun: when the fox sniffs, it raises its nose and its red tail and signs!

And if, as Logo thinks, the entire world is falling apart, “La Vie Moderne” has no reason to be so boring anymore.

The band’s first EP is called La Vie Moderne and features two tracks: “Junocide” and “La Vie Moderne,” both in their original version and in their auto-remix version. The digital version of the EP will also contain remixes by Danton Eeprom, DyE, Gohan and French Fries. It will be released worldwide on August 30th.
