Ever since the age of 7, Laura Pacheco aka “Riya” has been involved in music, working as a session singer, in choirs, gospel choirs, and playing various instruments.

In 2004 she moved to London and this is where things really took off for her.
Between 2004 – 2008, Riya featured on a number of various drum and bass tracks under her real name “Laura Pacheco”, collaborating with artists such as Klute, State of Mind, Bungle, and Total Science. However, in 2009, Laura decided to change her name to Riya to reflect the change in her writing, and artistry.

Her first release under the Riya name was S.P.Y ft. Riya – “Rebirth” – Soul:r, shortly followed by the massive “Testimony” [Total Science & S.P.Y] which was supported by Bailey on BBC 1Xtra, every week, for 6 months solid!

In the past year, Riya has gone from strength to strength, being named as “the best vocalist in dnb right now” by Mixmag, and featured in their “Hi my name is” interview section.

She has released a string of well-loved songs, including “Seems Like” [produced by dBridge] which featured on the Autonomic Fabric CD and the massive “Open Page” on Metalheadz which is arguably one of Riya’s best tracks to date.

“Open Page” has had over 250,000 views on youtube, and was named “Single of the Month” in Mixmag/ IDJ, was BBC 1Xtra playlisted, and was supported by every DJ in the scene.

“Redlines”, a more soulful venture with Total Science, has also received much support from BBC radio DJs such as Annie Mac, Fabio, Bailey, and Mistajam, and has featured on Ministry of Sound CDs alongside DJ sets of many.

So what does the next 12 months hold for Riya? She is currently writing an album for the Autonomic label which will feature some of her favourite genres of music, alongside collaborating with artists in other genres, working on hiphop/soul, and learning piano and production.

Riya will also be performing more live both in the UK and abroad, and perhaps doing a few DJ sets. Riya is also a vocal coach, and any prospective students looking for lessons should message her direct.

Kavinsky is back, and ready to drop his newest single “Nightcall” on September 10th via the legendary French electronic imprint Record Makers. Fans don’t have to wait that long to catch a glimpse though- today, we’re excited to offer you not one, but three free remixes of “Nightcall.” The single is composed of four tracks that represent the sensual, epic and romantic French sound like never before.
 
Produced by Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo of Daft Punk and mixed by SebastiAn, the track finds the spooky, distorted, zombie vocals of Kavinsky perfectly counterbalanced by the sultry purr of CSS’ front kitten Lovefoxxx.
 
For the B-side, Kavinsky has produced the fantastic “Pacific Coast Highway,” a track that really taps into the Kavinsky story, as a voiceover narrates a high-speed ghost-car chase on the freeway. Kavinsky’s trademark arpeggiated 80’s sound forms the stylish backdrop to a thrilling pursuit the cops don’t have a chance in hell of winning.
 
The remix package  for this release comes courtesy of secretive and emblematic figures. Kavinsky & Record Makers organized a remix contest which ended with 533 entries-  the winners being Robotaki and SAWAGii’s remixes, both included in the digital version, as well as the great work of the funky new Ed Banger sensation Breakbot.  “Pacific Coast Highway” gets a treatment by the enigmatic Jackson, a true hero of the French electro sound of the last decade. The avante-garde producer, signed to Warp, transforms the original chase into a sprawling, drawn-out nine-minute epic that is pure high-octane. 
 
The legend of Kavinsky is an interesting one – the strory goes that he died in a car crash in 1986, whilst driving his beloved Testarossa. He re-appeared as a ZOMBIE in 2005, with his 12-inch, Teddy Boy. Since then, he has shown up all around the globe, playing his music to humans. Crowds gathered to witness the miracle: despite being dead, Kavinsky was still alive. In 2007, he released his second 12-inch, ‘1986’.
 
This is when his French robot mates in Daft Punk invited him to join their Alive Tour, and A-Trak put together an American Tour in his now repaired Testarossa. After rediscovering the world with his red eyes, Kavinsky retreated to his base camp to work on his debut album. Now, the zombie is striking back. After months of studio work on his forthcoming album, he & Record Makers have decided to release “Nightcall” as an apéritif. Sit back, enjoy and get ready for the main course…

Grammy-winning electric bassist, producer, and re-mixer Bill Laswell has worked with many of music’s biggest names on the planet, including Herbie Hancock, Laurie Anderson,  George Clinton, Brian Eno, Tony Williams, Mick Jagger, Williams Burroughs, Afrika Bambaataa, Motorhead, John Lydon, Bootsy Collins, Carlos Santana, Matisyahu, Anthony Braxton, Sting, Zakir Hussein, John Zorn, and hundreds more from the Americas, Africa The Caribbean, Europe, The Middle East, China, and Japan.  Laswell has built a reputation on consistently working with a diverse array of artists, and rejecting the restrictions of genre, tradition, and commerce in favor or taking risks and uniting seemingly disparate voices.  It is with this ethos that he has formed the record label M.O.D. Technologies, which is set to release albums this October by the group Method of Defiance and one of Ethiopia’s most famous contemporary vocalists, Gigi. In addition, the label is planning releases from Dr. Israel, Gnawa Fusion, Afa Negus, and DJ Krush in the near future.

Method of Defiance will release three albums, first the immediately accessible Jahbulon (October 5^th): Ten songs featuring vocalists Dr. Israel and Hawk, keyboardist / Funkadelic icon Bernie Worrell, legendary bassist/producer Bill Laswell, and post modern/futurist drummer, Guy Licata. A cross-generational affair that incorporates elements of reggae, hip hop, dancehall, dub, electronica, rock, roots music and more. The beauty lies within its ability to touch on multiple overlapping cultural reference points.  
 
This will be followed (October 19^th) by Incunabula a spontaneous improvisation of musical interaction. The album’s lineup includes Bill Laswell on bass and dub efx, Bernie Worrell on keyboards, Guy Licata on drums, Dr. Israel on dub efx, turntable master DJ Krushand on electric trumpet Japan’s own, sound and fury – Toshinori Kondo with a special appearance by keyboard legend Herbie Hancock.
 
Ending the trilogy in Jan 2011 with the remix project Dub Arcanum Arcandrum a mix of both Jahbulon (the vocal) and Incunabula (the instrumental) by Bill Laswell, Lee “Scratch” Perry, Mad Professor, Dr. Israel, DJ Krush, and others.
