Seminal alternative rock group R.E.M., once arguably the biggest band in the world, called it quits Wednesday (Sept. 21) after 31 years and 15 albums together. In a simple statement on their website, the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers behind landmark albums including “Document” and “Automatic for the People” give thanks to fans for sticking with them through a career that saw its share of highs and lows.
“To our Fans and Friends: As R.E.M., and as lifelong friends and co-conspirators, we have decided to call it a day as a band. We walk away with a great sense of gratitude, of finality, and of astonishment at all we have accomplished. To anyone who ever felt touched by our music, our deepest thanks for listening.”(billboard report)

Gigamesh has been making his mark for several years in dance clubs around the world with his own popular blend of remixes, as well as his work with remix group DiscoTech, and his role in Señor Stereo, a disco influenced live-electronic group. Today, Consequence of Sound exclusively premiered the a mixtape, featuring exclusive remixes of Katy B, Theophilus London and Afrojack, that he made especially for Thursday September 22nd’s Check Yo Ponytail show at El Rey. Gigamesh will share the bill that night with Miami Horror, Class Actress, LA Girlfriend and Franki Chan. You can hear and download the “Check Yo Ponytail” mixtape HERE.
Gigamesh will release his debut self-titled EP October 18 through Our Label International. Fans will also have the chance to buy the extended version of the single When You’re Dancing Ft. Induce exclusively on Beatport starting October 4th. Known for pushing the boundaries of dance music, Gigamesh opens the EP with disco-infused single “When You’re Dancing (feat. Induce)” with a hook that commands you to move. “It’s So Intense” lives up to its name as a hazy synth-driven club banger. EP closer “People” shows the melodic side of Gigamesh, lead by melodic vocals from Nicole Godiva while still incorporating bass guitar and synths.
Gigamesh has received considerable attention and support from DJs as diverse as DJ AM and Brodinski to Busy P and Fare Soldi for his bootleg remixes of artists like Animal Collecitve, Lykke Li and Radiohead, the latter two of which hit #1 on the Hype Machine. Through his widespread success, Gigamesh was hired to remix Mike Posner’s “Cooler Than Me” in late 2009. Ultimately chosen to be the first single on Posner’s debut album, the Gigamesh version went on to sell over 2.5 million copies and hit the #6 position on Billboard.
Stay tuned for more from Gigamesh and be sure to catch him live on tour this fall!

Remember Remember Announces New Album via Mogwai’s Label+ New Video

Remember Remember To Release New Album On
Mogwai’s Rock Action Records, Share New Video
Based in Glasgow, Scotland, the instrumental ensemble Remember Remember has announced the details for their second album, The Quickening, which will see a US release on October 11th through Mogwai’s Rock Action Records. To coincide with the news, the band is sharing a new animated video from Scottish-based animator Becky Manson for one of the album’s tracks, “Scottish Widows.”
Remember Remember’s musical journey, one that began as one guy on stage with a loopstation and a bag of toys, now finds them here with The Quickening, a powerful and exciting listen that promises live experiences just as thrilling.
Recorded in early 2011 at Chem 19 Studios, Scotland against a background of tumultuous global events, The Quickening sees Remember Remember return with the same seven-piece group heard on last year’s “RR Scorpii” EP. The Quickening is still a playful, colourful record- the music dives deeper into darker, psychedelic territories hinted at on “RR Scorpii.” Pagan waltzes, apocalyptic Egyptian surf and Middle Eastern modes mingle with somber pianos and bleak string interludes, concluding with a duo of songs- “One Happier” and “John Candy,” both bittersweet and stratospheric, creating an ending made of pure, bright light.
The band has has been playing elaborately staged shows in and around Glasgow for the past few years and has been producing some of the most epic-sounding and ambitious music we’ve heard in a long time. The band will appeal to fans of Mice Parade, Animal Collective and Bjork, along with artists such as Philip Glass, Brian Eno and Yann Tiersen.

NERO STORM THE UK CHARTS WITH SINGLE PROMISES AND ALBUM WELCOME REALITY DEBUTING AT #1
Dates include NYC, LA, Atlanta, Vancouver, Denver, Baltimore+ more
” Nero’s Joe Ray and Dan Stephens ache to bestow post-dubstep with its can-you-believe-this-shit? flash of stadium-size euphoria, enhancing (or defiling, depending on your perspective) the genre’s bass-heavy payload with trancey synths and wailing vocals,- Charles Aaron, Spin
“Welcome Reality” will inevitably soundtrack thousands of summer and fall blowouts. …Nero understand how to make things burn.”
-Jeff Weiss, Los Angeles Times
“Glorious, splinter-thin moments when a sound is both free to do whatever it wants and still functioning as a new power source…”
– Sasha Frere-Jones, New Yorker
Nero, aka North West London producers, remixers du jour, DJs and artists Dan Stephens and Joe Ray, now one of the biggest names in both dubstep and drum and bass released their indie/dubstep hybrid smash single Promises on August 8th. Promises stormed straight to the top of the UK charts, knocking Cher Lloyd off the top spot. Their debut album Welcome Reality followed the week after and did the same. Released on Chase and Status’ label MTA, Welcome Reality is quickly approaching Gold. The album features the global smash ‘Me and You’, underground hit ‘Innocence’ and recent single ‘Guilt’. Following this success, Nero announce their debut live tour in both the UK and US.
This summer saw Nero DJ on tours through out the UK and US and appeared on various dates on this summer’s Identity Tour, plus all major UK music festivals including Glastonbury, Bestival, Reading, and Wireless. To celebrate the release of their debut album they are about to premiere their monster of a new live show in North America and are booked for an intensive run which includes stops at NYC’s Webster Hall and Monster Massive in Los Angeles. The live show sees Dan and Joe performing on keyboards, touch screen lemurs and laptops, and are bringing along guest performer Alana on vocals. It is a visual led performance and see’s them performing from a custom build booth consisting of Ghetto Blasters, retro TVs, old amps and an arcade machine centre piece. Additional DJ dates are also announced.
In addition, Nero are proud to reveal “Welcome Reality – The Game”, the first time a game has been combined with an album sampler and integrated into Facebook to put you in the game. Inspired by the arcade game featured in the video for hit single “Me & You”, this classic retro beat ‘em up features 6 tracks from the album, offering fans a tantalising first listen to “Welcome Reality”. Check out www.facebook.com/nerouk.
Following their UK headline dates through October, Nero will be supporting Tinie Tempah on his Autumn arena tour and are about to release their brand new single Crush on October 17.
Nero recently teamed up with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra and Joe Duddell (the composer behind Elbow & the Halle for 2009 Manchester International Festival) to perform a new commissioned piece titled ‘Dubstep Symphony’ on Monday 6th June. The unprecedented collaboration was simulcast live from 7pm across BBC Radio 1 and BBC Radio 1Xtra and co-hosted by Zane Lowe and MistaJam.
‘Guilt’ charted at number 8 and ‘Me and You’ charted at number 15 and was the most played record on Radio 1 for three weeks in a row. Nero featured on the BBC’s Sound of 2011 music poll and various other influential tips for 2011 lists.
