Solomun-Watergate 11

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , , on May 10, 2012 by E.N.

A mere 10 years old, Watergate has steadfastly become one of the world’s most prominent electronic music institutions. This is due in no small part to its heady combination of picturesque location – its dancefloors face directly out onto the river Spree – a wall-to-wall LED light installation and its impeccable music policy, with the cream of the electronic crop passing through its doors every week.

The mix CD series, now in its eleventh incarnation, is a further means for the club to stamp its seal onto the scene, with many of the club’s residents and regular talents having been invited to contribute. Previous artists have included the likes of Tiefschwarz, Ellen Allien, Sascha Funke and dOP, amongst others. For the latest edition, DIYNAMIC label boss and man of the moment Solomun takes up the mantle and demonstrates his own interpretation of club music.

Within a short time the Croatian-born Mladen Solomun has already climbed to the pinnacle of the international house music scene, while simultaneously currently holding a position as one of the most sought after and in demand remixers. His remix for Noir & Haze has eclipsed the 2 million view mark on YouTube, whilst his first contribution to Watergate Records – a remix of Tiefschwarz’s Corporate Butcher – still resonates as a consensus crowd favorite.

With Watergate 11, Solomun bestows his first mix CD upon the international market, stylistically splicing all the sounds one can expect to hear in his sets. With its many Influences from funk to hip- hop, house to techno and garnished with his own unique edits, this mix shows Solomun – the DJ – deftly balancing vibrance and consistence.

Hudson Mohawke and Lunice Announce TNGHT (EP out July 24)+ Bugg’n (official stream)

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , , , , on May 10, 2012 by E.N.

This summer sees the debut collaborative release from Hudson Mohawke and Lunice, two of the hottest young producers out there right now. Their TNGHT project is coming out as a five track EP on vinyl and digitally July 24th via Warp Records/LuckyMe.

Those familiar with the genre-blending, ground-quaking beats of Glasgow’s Hudson Mohawke and Montreal’s Lunice will think they know what is in store from a collaboration between the two, but nothing could prepare for the future hip hop production featured on TNGHT.

The duo debuted their collab at this year’s SXSW. With thousands of acts it is virtually impossible to stand out, especially for an act that has never released a track or played a show, but TNGHT packed out the venue, and the entire room shook from excitement (and bass!).

Rudimental “Feel The Love” ft. john Newman – released 28th May 2012

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on May 10, 2012 by E.N.

Artist: Rudimental
Title: “Feel The Love” ft John Newman
Label: Asylum Records / Black Butter
Release date: May 28th 2012
Format: Digital Download Single

Having premiered as the Hottest Record in the World on Zane Lowe’s Radio 1 show last week and with subsequent plays from Mistajam – who declared in a Certified Banger – and Annie Mac over the weekend, Rudimental are pleased to announce their debut major label single on Asylum Records in association with the cutting edge indie Black Butter.
‘Feel the Love’ is set for release on May 28th, a maximalist Drum’n’bass anthem full of organic instrumentation including a soaring trumpet break and a magnificent, unrestrained vocal courtesy of John Newman; the song is sure to be a summer smash.
‘Feel The Love’ comes hot on the heels of Rudimental’s underground smash ‘Spoons’ which has already amassed over 50 specialist plays on Radio 1, Kiss, 1Xtra, XFM and Rinse with support from The XX, Laurent Garnier and the tastemaker blogs.
This hot Hackney based quartet is made up of musicians Piers Agget, Kesi Dryden, Amir Amor and Leon (DJ Locksmith), who navigate through genres effortlessly. As Piers explains “we’re all into different styles of music. When I was young I was listening to blues, and I was listening to Dizzee and grime”, others in the group were into Garage and Hip Ho p, or old Soul and 2 Step. “The unifying thing is the soul influence and the bass influence” says Amir, “those two things are always there” alongside the real instrumentation: real bass, real Hammond, real brass, real strings and in the case of ‘Spoons’, real spoons. Not only do Rudimental handle all the instrumentation and production side of their music, they also write the lyrics for their guest vocal talent.
Immersed in music from an early age and always finding a way to forge a career in it, be that on pirate radio (Leon and Piers), producing garage or hip hop with likes of Plan B (Amir) or hanging out at his
now prolific Stoke Newington School – the place that Professor Green and Labrinth sprung from (Kesi) – Rudimental have music in their blood.
Alongside ‘Spoons’, a stunning, soulful house duet between vocalists MNEK and Syron, Rudimental have recently remixed Ed Sheeran’s ‘Drunk’, Benny Banks and Wretch 32 and are currently working on a remix for Labrinth’s forthcoming single.
‘Feel the Love’ is backed by a wealth of remixes from producers including UKF favourites Fred V & Grafix and Cutline and house dons Scuba and Dusky who all turn in mammoth mixes.
As might be expected of men with such a deep knowledge of the dance genres that are interwoven into London’s cultural and musical history, Rudimental also feel a strong connection to their communities and have seen how music can be an outlet for kids from troubled backgrounds. All of Rudimental have all worked as mentors for teens, an experience that was mirrored when they travelled to Philadelphia to film the soon to be released video for ‘Feel the Love’. The film features real kids as it documents an unexpected lifestyle in one of the city’s roughest neighbourhoods.
Rudimental have announced a string of touring dates, taking in the likes of Fabric and The Arches as well as festival appearances at Creamfields, SW4 and Outlook – Rudimental’s 2012 takeover is in
place.
