Omid 16B’s SexOnWax Is Back! / Paul Sparkes – Break U Down EP

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , , on July 31, 2012 by E.N.

The “Break U Down EP” is a superb mixture of house and tech-house, featuring three original tracks by Paul Sparkes and two stylish remixes by Omid 16B. As Paul says of the EP…
I wanted to, quite simply, produce music that I love to play out in the clubs, tracks which can fit into DJ sets without having to be huge impact tracks, but ones that will simply do the business at the right time. I think I’ve made three tracks that are pitched down, deep and of a high quality. It’s really music by a DJ for other DJs, and I hope this EP will fit into the sets of many different people all over the world.”
Paul Sparkes has been DJing for nearly 20 years. A native Brit, he relocated to Amsterdam in 2001 and has been responsible for promoting his own Floorplay parties in the city, bringing in the likes of Omid 16B himself and Danny Howells to play with him. This hard-working individual is all about quality, and thus he fits seamlessly into the SexOnWax label ethos. Paul has previously released tracks such as “Anorok” on Alter Image Recordings from NYC, “Weekender” on Aleph Recordings and also mixed the “11 Years Of Silver Planet Recordings” compilation. Now, in 2012, he has found his true deep house sound with this release on Omid’s SexOnWax Recordings.
Starting life in 2002, SexOnWax Recordings is a UK label synonymous with high quality house music.  The brainchild of DJ/producer Omid 16B, it has consistently released quality underground electronic music and is always seeking out hidden dancefloor gems. With over a decade of quality releases, including productions from the likes of Omid, Mr C & Tom Parris, Danny Howells, The Idiots, Solar Plexus, Sycophant Slags, and Mashtronic, under its belt, Sexonwax now presents the latest instalment, the “Break U Down EP” by Paul Sparkes.

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , on July 31, 2012 by E.N.

On the heels of the #2 on the Beatport chillout chart success of Dinodeuts’ “Get Down (Party Star Downtempo Mix), cygnusx1records returns with a new EP from Shamano inspired by cosmic sounds and in particular the new amazing discoveries about the exo-planets and exo-solar systems. The release takes the name from the KEPLER22b solar system in the CYGNUS constellation, which seems to be the twin of our own beloved solar system. Even the star of the Kepler 22b system seems to be very similar to the Sun. Shamano imagines a journey onboard the ICARUS DREAM MOTHER STARSHIP watching the wonder of creation. This EP is an imaginary trip throught the infinite universe with a tsunami of musical sounds and sensations along the way.

Duckhunter – Komodo & The Ecclesial Fox LP

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , on July 31, 2012 by E.N.

New York’s NOSI Music stays red hot, following up the well-received Central Connection LP from Honduran producer Dano Cube with an 8-track full length from up and coming New York techno producer Duckhunter. Hailing originally from the Ukraine, Komodo & The Ecclesial Fox is the young Duckhunter’s debut album for NOSI Music. He is also the owner of UberKontrol Records and has released tracks previously on Derek Marin’s Subtrak label. Komodo & The Ecclesial Fox is a stacked collection of solid originals that encapsulate the growing underground techno movement building currently in New York City while advancing the agenda of both label and artist. Constructed around nimble, innovative bass line work, the LP is a series of techno explorations – from the dark and minimal to the housier side of groove; there is a little bit of everything to please the senses and move the dance floor.

Stream Jimmy Edgar’s remix of Visionquest’s Footprintz

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , , on July 31, 2012 by E.N.

Jimmy Edgar remixes Footprintz next single,
‘Dangers of the Mouth’, released on Visionquest

Long-term friends and confidantes of Visionquest, Footprintz release next single ‘Dangers of the Mouth’ on 12″ today, and Beatport on 27th August on the label.

Taken from their long-awaited debut album, scheduled to drop in early 2013, Footprintz deliver that deep, dark and moody 80s-tinged electronica, blurry around the edges, unable to fit anywhere and everywhere. Accustomed to soundtracking late night sunsets and early morning sunrises, Footprintz AKA Clarian North and Addy Weitzman are school friends from Montreal influenced by the likes of Ultravox, Depeche Mode, 80s B-movies and a hefty dose of artistic licence.

First single ‘Dangers of the Mouth’ is reworked by Hotflush’s Jimmy Edgar who takes the track deep into warped and fuzzy territories.

Brandt Brauer Frick is gearing up for a run of North American dates starting this week, which includes the debut Brandt Brauer Frick Ensemble performance at Lincoln Center’s Out of Doors series at the Damrosch Park Bandshell. This will be BBFE’s first performance featuring the full 10-piece ensemble in North America! The other tour dates feature Brandt Brauer Frick performing as a trio with live drums and keys, and include stops in Washington, DC, New York City (trio show at Santos Party House), and Osheaga in Montreal.

In anticipation of the North American dates, Brandt Brauer Frick Ensemble is sharing three recent live videos from Eurostar’s Traction festival in Europe, two of which feature Jamie Lidell on guest vocals (“Session 1” and “Session 2”). “606 ‘n’ Rock ‘n’ Roll” was featured on the band’s latest album, Mr. Machine, which came out last year via !K7.

There are very few musicians that are at home performing in a chamber music hall, a summer festival stage, or a sweaty underground warehouse party, but for the last several years Brandt Brauer Frick make have been mainstays at all of these venues and more. Brandt Brauer Frick use electronic dance music and techno as a jumping-off point to explore a full spectrum of sounds, created primarily with symphonic instruments including piano, tympani, harp, strings and horns. The group has recorded two albums for !K7, 2010’s You Make Me Real and 2011’s Mr. Machine (as The Brandt Brauer Frick Ensemble).

Metronomy – ‘LateNightTales” September 3rd

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , on July 30, 2012 by E.N.

Metronomy cover Jean-Michel Jarre’s ‘Hypnose’

Featuring Outkast to Cat Power, Doctor Octagon to Autechre

Limited edition vinyl version includes CD and cover art print

Acclaimed pop experimentalists Metronomy compile the latest Late Night Tales, the third of 2012 and 29th in the decade long series.

Metronomy, the effective alias of the talented Joseph Mount, have thus far released three albums, starting with the jagged electro manoeuvres of their debut ‘Pip Paine (Pay The £5000 You Owe)’, through to their two albums on Because, ‘Nights Out’, where Mount first sang, and last year’s brilliant Mercury-nominated ‘The English Riviera’.

As a pop group, Metronomy are more Four Tet than Fab Four, though with a sense of adventure that would’ve made the Fabs proud. Their outing under the Late Night Tales banner journeys through the inspirations of the bands’ ever moving sound – along with a few surprises.

Mount’s old favourite Autechre is present and correct, but then so are Kate and Anna McGarrigle and the Sun Ra of hip hop Sa-Ra Creative Partners. Joining Sa-Ra on the hip hop front, we’ve got Tweet’s ace ‘Drunk’ from her Hummingbird album alongside OutKast Prototype’, spiced with some Doctor Octagon.

For pure pop, they don’t come more refined than Alan Parson’s Eye In The Sky’, who is buffeted by outbreaks of unsettling weirdness, among them the sadly departed Mick Karn’s supple bass figurines on ‘Weather The Windmill’ or Tonto’s Expanding Head Band – the guys that brought the funk to synthesizers with Stevie Wonder – and ‘Cybernaut’. And just when you think you’ve got it figured, Pete Drake arrives with his 1964 pedal steel novelty hit ‘Forever’. This is a maze rather than a journey.

Naturally enough, there is the Late Night Tales special with a sparkling Metronomy rendition of Jean-Michel Jarre’s Hypnose’. We’ve always had a soft spot for Devon and her cobbled street delights, but seen through the prism of Joseph Mount, it takes on a new hue that makes Brigitte Bardot and that other, lesser, Riviera seem somehow pallid. To paraphrase Buzzcocks: another music in a different riviera.

PJam Feat. Big Narstie – Gas – BeatCamp(Stream)

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , , , , on July 30, 2012 by E.N.

Artist: PJam Feat. Big Narstie
 Title: Gas
 Label: BeatCamp
 Release Date: 20.08.12
 Format: Digital

After last years re-release of grime anthem Anger Management (which is lauded as a definitive Grime classic partly due to the D Double Evocal) on Terror Danjah’s Hardrive label, PJam (pronounced pee-jam) has been on a steady ascent back to the forefront of the UK’s Grime scene. After a short stint away from music production, his newly-inked BeatCamp label has already seen him collaborate with the likes of Shystie and the imprint continues to act as a vessel to release his much sought-after productions.

The North London-based producer now presents a new single with long-time collaborator Big Narstie (the pair previously worked on various projects under the Dice Recordings stable) who provides a colourful lyrical approach to the haunted PJam production. The beat itself exemplifies what makes PJam stand out as a seasoned producer – low-end bass frequencies combined with ominous synths lines and crisp 808-drum work that allow Big Narstie to spew verses of unabashed street tales with the sinister production fuelling his fire.
Big Narstie has come on leaps and bounds over the last two years as an MC and character within the Grime scene with his humorous slogans ‘Pain’ and ‘Gas’. After his infamous 100 Bars of Pain freestyle on SB.TV, he has become somewhat of a cult hero with everyone from Ed Sheeran to Jamal Edwards (founder of SB.TVreciting his verses.

With more releases on BeatCamp and Hardrive scheduled for the coming months, ‘Gas’ is only a taster of what’s to come from PJam’s multi-faceted production arsenal and his return adds another element of excitement to the resurgence of Grime producers into the wider electronic music scene.
