Artist: PJam Feat. Big Narstie
Release Date: 20.08.12
After last years re-release of grime anthem Anger Management (which is lauded as a definitive Grime classic partly due to the D Double Evocal) on Terror Danjah’s Hardrive label, PJam (pronounced pee-jam) has been on a steady ascent back to the forefront of the UK’s Grime scene. After a short stint away from music production, his newly-inked BeatCamp label has already seen him collaborate with the likes of Shystie and the imprint continues to act as a vessel to release his much sought-after productions.
The North London-based producer now presents a new single with long-time collaborator Big Narstie (the pair previously worked on various projects under the Dice Recordings stable) who provides a colourful lyrical approach to the haunted PJam production. The beat itself exemplifies what makes PJam stand out as a seasoned producer – low-end bass frequencies combined with ominous synths lines and crisp 808-drum work that allow Big Narstie to spew verses of unabashed street tales with the sinister production fuelling his fire.
Big Narstie has come on leaps and bounds over the last two years as an MC and character within the Grime scene with his humorous slogans ‘Pain’ and ‘Gas’. After his infamous 100 Bars of Pain freestyle
, he has become somewhat of a cult hero with everyone from Ed Sheeran
to Jamal Edwards
(founder of SB.TV
) reciting his verses
With more releases on BeatCamp and Hardrive scheduled for the coming months, ‘Gas’ is only a taster of what’s to come from PJam’s multi-faceted production arsenal and his return adds another element of excitement to the resurgence of Grime producers into the wider electronic music scene.
