Bersa Discos #5 – Toy Selectah

Posted in Electronic, Ghettotech, Promotions on May 21, 2009 by E.N.

Hot on the heels of his recent Mex-More LP, Toy Selectah (a.k.a. Toy Hernández) has dropped another collection of remixes, this time on West Coast cumbia imprint Bersa Discos.
LADO A:

Toy Selectah – Lamento en la Jungla
Tzochitl Soundsystem vs. Toy Selectah – Hay Guey (PROMO MP3 -)
Japanese vs. Toy Selectah – Cocobola (Raverton remix)

LADO B:

Boys Noize vs. Toy Selectah – Arcade Roboton (This Is Raverton remix)
DJ Negro vs. Toy Selectah – Mundo Querido (Rave al Sur remix)
DJ Negro vs. Toy Selectah – Mundo Querido (Rave al Sur Rebajada dub)

Originally making a name for himself as part of Hip Hop en Español pioneers Control Machete, Toy has created a whole new hybrid by mixing traditional Mexican soundscapes with contemporary urban riddims. By combining the rhythms of Colombian/Mexican cumbias, reggae, and other urban and Caribbean styles, Toy has forged his own trademark sound which he has dubbed Sonidero Nacional. As a music producer and remixer, Toy Hernández has worked with an all-star cast of artists and musicians, including Calle 13, M.I.A., Morrisey, Manu Chao, Julieta Venegas, Celso Piña, and countless others. In 2008, after years of swapping songs with Diplo, Mad Decent officially added Toy Selectah to their roster and his debut on that label is expected later in the year.

Bersa Discos #5 is available at Turntable Lab. Like all the Bersa offerings, this release is limited edition and the vinyl has been limited to 500 copies. Based in California with roots in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Bersa Discos has been releasing a steady stream of electronic/experimental cumbia over the past year. The label also helms the groundbreaking monthly Tormenta Tropical parties in San Francisco and Los Angeles.

Deborrah Harry – Rush Rush (Alex Darkly remix)

Posted in Artists Profile, Crunk, Electro, Ghettotech, Hits Remixed, Promotions on February 20, 2009 by E.N.

The latest remix from Alex Darkly is ready to hear now. From the Scarface soundtrack and produced by the legendary Giorgio Moroder, it features the vocal stylings of the one and only Deborrah Harry from Blondie, Rush Rush is an amazing track from the 1980’s that has been given a sonic boost by Alex Darkly. He has amped up the bass, included some of his signature peculiar sounds that build up to cracking climax to make this song ready for any DJs set. Make sure you check out the Alex Darkly myspace to hear some of his original tracks, including Up and Tiny Stereo, as well as his remixes of the Bloody Beetroots and Digitalism.

About
Alex Darkly gained Australian exposure with his track Tick-Tock being played on national Australian youth radio station Triple J.

Hailing from the West Coast of Australia, Perth to be more precise, Alex Darkly comes from a place of isolation that seems to breed those with the hunger and drive to force others to listen to their music.

Remerging amazingly alive after probing and prodding the US for six months Alex Darkly has regenerated with a more concise and urgent sound, delivering blitzing remixes of acts such as Digitalism, datA and the Presets as well as creating his most engaging original work to date.
