Hugh Cornwell Gives Thumbs-Up

To Free Downloading

and Offers Latest Release, Hooverdam, On Website

Please Don’t Put Me On A Slow Boat To Trowbridge
MP3 Download Available Now!

In a recent BBC News interview, former Stranglers frontman Hugh Cornwell endorsed free music downloading, coming just as the British government plans to crack down on illegal downloaders. Hugh, currently touring the United States, argues that a new generation is exposed to his music through the Internet and they, in turn, spend more money on his live performances.

“There’s a whole generation of people who have never heard of me or the band I used to be in, The Stranglers. The question is, how do I reach them?” Huh asks in the video. “As far as I’m concerned, the free downloading of music is something we should embrace and not fear… People introduced to my music free online are more likely to buy my records and come to my live shows.”

Hugh is pioneering free downloads as his latest album, Hooverdam, is available for free download at his website, Hughcornwell.com which is available for viewing in twelve languages.
He has also released the MP3 for single “Please Don’t Put Me On A Slow Boat To Trowbridge” from the new record which you can download here.

Hugh Cornwell is continues to tour the U.S. in support of Hooverdam. The tour kicked off March 24 in Tuscon, Arizona and continues throughout the country until wrapping up April 10 in Chicago.

Tonstartssbandht Release Midnite Cobras 7″+Free Download

Posted in Promotions, Psychedelic, Rock with tags , , , , , , , , , , on March 29, 2010 by E.N.

TONSTARTSSBANDHT ANNOUNCE MIDNITE COBRAS EP
Available Today On Psychic Handshake Recordings;

Montreal-based noise rockers Tonstartssbandht (pronounced”tŏn-stārts-bānd-it”) are pleased to announce their latest EP “Midnite Cobras” available on 7″ vinyl and digitally at all major online outlets beginning today on Psychic Handshake Recordings. The kick off the release, they are making the title track available for free download via RCRD LBL. You can grab it here.

Stick around for a while, this one gets heavy/weird” – Gorilla Vs. Bear

While many bands present themselves as “a band from [insert well known metropolitan area with all kinds of unspoken connotations, associations, and implications]” Tonstartssbandht want none of that. Eschewing any kind of geographical loyalty, they describe themselves simply as “a brother band” and would hope you would be so kind as to leave it at that. Though both musicians from a young age, Andy and Edwin White were in different bands as teenagers in Central Florida. They watched one another play, and occasionally teamed up in what they describe as “formless noise bands.” It was not until they were separated by distance that they realized that the only people they should be playing with were each other. “It was a match made in heaven” says Edwin of their partnership, and it has led the brothers to settle, for now at least, in Montreal.

It is there in their cold, northern, adopted city that the brother’s are preparing to release their newest 7″, Midnite Cobras. The three-track EP features new material, but in true brother-band fashion, it is material steeped in history. When he was a teenager, Andy, the younger brother of the two, made what he estimates to be “a lot” of pop records in his bedroom. Lucky for us, these recordings did not go the way of many a bedroom opus, lost in a basement or thrown out in an effort to force growing up, and Andy decided to dig one up recently. “He made a backwards loop of one of the guitar parts and sent it to me,” remembers Edwin, who in turn took the track and worked on it. The two went back and forth with it, eventually coming up with their upcoming single and the title to the 7″.

“a conglomeration of everything that’s great about current pop and experimental music alike, without all of the needless chaff and bullshit.” – Impose Magazine

Album Leaf – A Chorus of Storytellers

Posted in Electronic, Electronica, Experimental, Mood, Post-classical, Rock on January 21, 2010 by E.N.

A Chorus of Storytellers was recorded by Ryan Hadlock in the frosty month of February 2009 at Bear Creek Studio just outside of Seattle. It was mixed in the decidedly warmer month of June in Reykjavik, Iceland by Birgir Jon Birgisson (of Sigur Ros). For the first time in five albums, The Album Leaf recorded as a whole band. In the past, almost every instrument was performed by principal songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Jimmy LaValle. This time the whole band was invited to participate and the result is their best record yet.

This title will be released on February 2, 2010.

New Kid Koala project with Wolfmother – “The Slew” !!!
100% – Free Album Download Out Now (Will released officially on 9th November on Puget Sounds Records)

A couple of years back Eric San (aka Kid Koala) and Dylan J. Frombach (aka Dynomite D) were approached to soundtrack a new documentary feature film that was in production. Koala was already well known for his uncanny turntable manipulation, whilst Dylan had remixed Money Mark and collaborated with the Beastie Boys, amongst others. The duo worked for a long time on the psych rock-influenced score, only for the filming to collapse and any release to be canned. Although the film may never see the light of day, its music is about to be brought to life on stage.

Recently Koala & Dylan met the former rhythm section of Grammy Award-winning Australian rock band Wolfmother and began telling them all about the film and its lost music. Chris Ross and Myles Heskett loved the clips and urged that the material had to be heard; subsequently Kid Koala and the guys decided to put a show on the road.

After intensive rehearsals the show is now rolling out across the USA and will come to Europe before long. Featuring drums, bass/keys and the DJs working across a truly excessive six turntables, the set is seventy minutes of raw guitar cuts and heavy beats. We can guarantee that you will never have heard anything quite like this and also that you are unlikely to again. It’s a one-off tour, so when it stops in your town you’ll either be there or will have missed it forever.

Anyone who has seen previous Kid Koala events will not be disappointed – from Kid Koala’s incendiary solo turntable spectaculars to the Nufonia book launch, Deltron 3030 live to the Short Attention Span Theater. Brash, loud and defiantly turned up to eleven. The Slew Tour is coming to your town. Don’t miss it.(parisdj)

Morrissey – SWORDS 11/3, Tour West Coast Late Fall

Posted in News, Promotions, Rock on September 25, 2009 by E.N.

MORRISSEY RELEASES B-SIDES ALBUM
SWORDS
(NOVEMBER 3rd – UME)

WEST COAST TOUR starts November 29th in Seattle
Here’s a guy with a plan. Ever since the 1980s, he’s always known what he wants to sing about.” – The New York Times

Articulate, broodingly charismatic…” –Rolling Stone

Bitter, witty, hypocritical, contradictory, self-aware, sardonic, and nostalgic, Morrissey’s persona– in person, or in song– is never one-dimensional or quickly read”. -Pitchfork
2009 has been quite a year for Morrissey. He’s toured relentlessly, performing to sold-out audiences around the world. His 9th studio album, Years Of Refusal, saw Morrissey tie his highest US chart debut on the Billboard 200, and he’s overseen upgraded and remastered versions of his ‘90s works Southpaw Grammar and Maladjusted. Crowning what is undoubtedly his most productive year since his solo career began in 1988, SWORDS compiles 18 select songs released as b-sides of his 13 hit singles from his last four albums.

As an artist who has always ensured his b-sides are of as outstanding quality as his singles and album tracks, SWORDS features some of Morrissey’s finest material. 12 songs are collaborations with guitarist Alain Whyte, the rest co-written with guitarists Boz Boorer and Jesse Tobias, and former keyboardist Michael Farrell. In keeping with the three remarkable studio albums covered in his period – 2004’s You Are The Quarry, 2006’s Ringleader Of The Tormentors and Years Of Refusal – the music is powerful and adventurous. The richness and expression of Morrissey’s voice has never been greater. With unmatchable style, wit and insight, truths beneath the surface are laid bare. There are moments of personal reflection; “Munich Air Disaster 1958,” for example, is a heartrending lament for the Manchester United players who died in the infamous plane crash, and for those who were left behind. The live cover version of David Bowie’s 1973 song “Drive-In Saturday” reveals a little more of Morrissey’s own teenage self, with its lyrics of amorous confusion modified to rhapsodize over The New York Dolls rather than the Rolling Stones. Chrissie Hynde makes a rare appearance, singing backing vocals on “Shame is the Name.”

The album was compiled by Morrissey who is surely in the rudest of creative health. They’re subtly assembled and sequenced –the feeling of approaching extinction in the beautiful “The Never-Played Symphonies” followed by a promise of a reunion in the afterlife on “Sweetie-Pie.” As Morrissey said of the Tour Of Refusal in March, “all of our answers will be in our songs.”

Initial quantities of SWORDS will come with a bonus disc featuring eight superb live performances recorded in Warsaw in July this year. This will include songs from Morrissey’s last two albums and 1994’s Vauxhall And I, plus The Smiths’ “You Just Haven’t Earned It Yet, Baby,” first heard on the group’s 1986 b-side collection The World Won’t Listen. In October and November Morrissey and his band will also tour the UK and Europe, with new American dates scheduled for later in the year.

SWORDS will be released in the UK on October 26th and November 3rd in the US.

*Extra MP3*HISTORICS "Skin Orders" from new album Strategies For Apprehension

Posted in Modern Rock, Promotions, Rock, Soft Rock on September 18, 2009 by E.N.

Historics have just released their compelling debut album Strategies For Apprehension (Metropolitan Indian Records). The band is an all-star team of sorts featuring Don Devore (Amazing Baby; The Icarus Line; Ink & Dagger), Mickey Madden (Maroon 5), Josh Grubb (VietNam), Jeff Knutsen (Fast Fourier), and Matt Werth (Favourite Sons). The album is as eclectic as it is distinct, featuring art-rock soundcapes and bittersweet melodies galore. There’s even an appearance by underground rap legend Kool Keith on the track “Take It To The Top.”

You can get a taste by checking out the track “Skin Orders” here
