The Uncluded, featuring rapper Aesop Rock and folk singer/songwriter Kimya Dawson are releasing their debut album Hokey Fright May 7th on Rhymesayers. The band recently made a viral video for the album track “Scissorhands.”
When the pair collaborated on both Aesop’s Skelethon (Rhymesayers) and Kimya’s Thunder Thighs (Great Crap Factory), the two decided that they wanted to continue making music with each other as a group. The band name, which means to keep the things you don’t appreciate out of your life, is based on an excerpt from Michael Bernard Loggins‘ book Imaginationally. This record helps to tell the story of two people who are finding therapy through making art together.
Hokey Fright’s 16 tracks were written, performed and recorded entirely by Aesop and Kimya, except for a guest drum appearance by James McNew of Yo La Tengo on “Delicate Cycle”.
Ex-would be boyband Young Fathers release their debut album, ‘The Guide‘ through Black Sugar Music on 6th February 2012.
Hailing from Nigeria, Liberia & the banlieue schemes of Edinburgh, Young Fathers create soulful, bass-heavy music overlaid with passionate sparring words. Together, the three members G, Ally and Kayus are like a family
The lead single from the album, ‘Nothing Left (So Here’s a Beat)’ is released 19th December 2011 and deals with the realisation between the band that the most important thing in their lives is their work together as Young Fathers.
The combined sound of Young Fathers reflects the varied backgrounds of each band member. G, the son of a taxi driver, born in Drylaw, a scheme in the north of Edinburgh. Ally, originally from Liberia, left the country due to civil war when he was four and came to Edinburgh. Kayus, the sun of Nigerian born parents, moved to the UK from Nigeria via Montgomery County, USA.
Having formed over ten years ago aged fifteen, the band have become brothers to one another, finishing off sentences, collectively honing their craft and recording the unexpected results. Their journey has seen them go from hip hop group to boyband to something completely original and creative.
“The biggest buzz so far has been the moment when we sat in the studio listening to The Guide and realised that we had an album that represented us, that returned us to the love. It was late on a Saturday night and it was dark, except for the twinkling of the mixing desk lights. We were sober but we felt drunk.”
Up for grabs now as a free download is an eight track mixtape by Young Fathers, available on cassette and online atyoungfathersmusic.com. This, ahead of their London show at The Old Blue Last on November 29th, gives us a taste of what to expect from one of the UK’s most exciting, new and original bands.

Caveman To Release Debut CoCo Beware on
November 15th, Available Digitally on September 13th
“Old Friend” from CoCo Beware Listen/Download HERE
U.S. Tour with The War on Drugs
Starts This August
(see tour dates below)
“…a rolling set, thick with animalistic drums and swooning guitar riffs…an hour of seamless musical beauty.”– New York Times
“Note to self: Caveman will leave you on a beach so long you’ll forget what it’s like to walk on cement instead of sand.” – Yourstru.ly
“…the best local band you haven’t heard of yet.”– Fader Magazine
After months of anticipation, Caveman is pleased to announce the digital release of their debut album CoCo Beware on September 13th, followed by the physical CD and vinyl release on November 15th. Exploding out of the New York scene over the last few months, the band has decided to get this hot off the presses album out as soon as possible via a digital self-release. The fans wanted it, so the fans get it — a straight-ahead ethos for a band that’s about the music FIRST.
In honor of the New York five-piece’s first release, the band has made “Old Friend” available as a free download.
Recorded and produced by Nick Stumpf(French Kicks), CoCo Beware showcases the dreamy chamber pop and multi-part harmonies that have been turning heads at the band’s live shows for the better part of a year. Leading up to the release of their debut, Caveman will also be heading out on tour with The War On Drugs, hitting the east coast, midwest and Canada before returning to New York to celebrate their album release at the Mercury Lounge on Thursday, September 15th.
For Caveman, the last year and half have been a whirlwind. Formed in New York back in January of 2010, the band has gone from relative unknowns to opening for Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeroes, White Rabbits, Here We Go Magic, Cursive, Wye Oak and Yuck in a little under a year. Listening to CoCo Beware, it’s easy to see why the band has garnered so much attention in such a short period of time. Opening with “A Country’s King of Dreams,” the band explores honey-sweet, country-tinged vocal melodies over tribal drumming. “My Time” is a slow-building pop gem, with lead singer Matthew Iwanusa’s vocals weaving in and out of band’s backing vocals. Caveman’s lush four-part harmonies, spaced-out guitars, and inventive percussion come together perfectly on the tracks “Easy Water” and “My Room.”
To get a further taste of the album, watch the quintet perform their tracks “Vampirer/Old Friend” at the Fader Fort HERE and a semi-acoustic version of “Old Friend” as part of Converse’s Gone To Governors SeriesHERE. Also in a more public setting, Caveman run through “Decide” on FADER.tvHERE. And you can see a live version of “Easy Water” on IFC HERE.

The Irrepressibles Release Debut Mirror Mirror in America on August 9th + Special Edition on October 25th!
“an enchantingly theatrical pop extravaganza” - Sunday Times
“The Irrepressibles are one of Britain’s best-kept secrets…” - Independent On Sunday
At long last, the flamboyant, fantastical, and unfathomable Irrepressibles will release their debut album, Mirror Mirror digitally in America on August 9th, followed by a special edition of the album October 25th featuring exclusive remixes from Röyksopp, Hercules & Love Affair and Zero 7 amongst others. The single “In This Shirt” will be available with exclusive remixes via Beatport on June 27th.

and see a performance video of “Forget The Past” HERE. The group has also released three videos for “In Your Shirt”: check out the band performing in their creation The Human Music Box HERE, footage from the movie The Forgotten CircusHERE, and Roy Raz’ video for the track HERE (NSFW).
Led by creative director, conceptual artist, composer, lead vocalist and choreographer Jamie McDermott, the 10-piece performance orchestra has already earned comparisons to early David Bowie, Kate Bush, Anthony & The Johnsons and even Bonzo Dog Do Dah Band. And on Mirror Mirror, the band has created an unparalleled album that fuses European orchestration with pop melodies and soaring cathartic vocals. From the dramatic opener “My Friend Jo” to the galloping rhythms of “Anvil”; from the yearning echoes of “Forget The Past” through to the intensely intimate “In This Shirt”, Mirror Mirror is a beautifully constructed sonic exploration depicting Jamie McDermott’s confessional stories of love, anger, lust and loss with a journey through The Irrepressibles’ mystical and theatrical world.
Over the last seven years, The Irrepressibles have pioneered a new frontier in pop performance. Using conceptual sets, and teams of artists in film, dance, avant-garde costume and make-up, the collective bring these songs to life through create extraordinary live spectacles. They have staged their inimitable displays all over Europe, including performances at the Hackney Empire, Roundhouse in London, a Roman amphitheatre in Barcelona, a 17th Century villa in Sicily, the infamous La Cigale in Paris, and played two shows at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London to capacity crowds. “It’s a simple, groovy recipe for getting along in this topsy-turvy world: Love rules. Dance along, it’s okay.”– MTV Hive
“Sophisticated” – Rolling Stone
“Just remember that Medicine Babies is the name of the album dropping…and it’s gonna be dope.” – RCRD LBL
“What makes this iteration so magnetic is the seeming effort to present all styles with as much integrity as possible, without sacrificing great songwriting in the process.” – Culture Bully
“Guest appearances by Costanza Francavilla and TVOTR’s Tunde Adebimpe function as critical reinforcements to this otherwise bumpalistic mission.” – The Deli NYC
With support from Pitchfork, Prefix, NME, KEXP, and more, No Surrender welcomes their long-awaited release Medicine Babies, out now on ZerOKilled!
The complex and stunning sophomore effort blends hip-hop, electro, soul, synth-pop, and indie-rock, produced by former Tricky’s muse singer Costanza Francavilla and European production team Radioclit (Santigold, M.I.A The Very Best).
To celebrate the release of the album, MTV Hive premiered the uplifting album-opener “Young World”. The tune, which MTV describes as “a tune that features TV on the Radio harmonies, the weirdly-named-guitar atmospherics Brian Eno hangs on good U2 tracks, and a synthetic funk that the city of Sheffield (circa 1982) would proudly call its own.
Introducing by Bella Union
Allow us to introduce you to the world of I Break Horses, the nom de plume of Maria Lindén and her musical partner Fredrik Balck. Residing in the Swedish capital of Stockholm, the duo have quietly been crafting the nine tracks that make up debut album Hearts throughout stolen moments gathered up over the past three years.
Songs were written, committed to tape, destroyed. The task of capturing the sonic density of Lindén’s compositions was painstaking. Balck’s lyrics constantly teasing the senses “Lay your cold hand down on my hardest vein” (‘Cancer’) are at times insular, cold to the touch. It’s only when interpreted by Maria’s effortless croon that a warmth is added, like the first rays of sun on a cold winters morning. A balancing act of light vs. dark that reveals a beauty within the darkness.
Perhaps one would think that the results of such endeavours would be somewhat disjointed, with the influences and experiences of 36 months being thrown into the mix, Hearts could almost come across as erratic, unfocused. Thankfully, it’s quite the opposite.
Although heavily (and openly) influenced by My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive, Jesus & Mary Chain et al – Hearts is far from an exercise in typical shoegaze fayre. Lindén, possibly the most diminutive and unassuming person one could ever wish to meet, is transformed on record to appear 10 ft tall: a shit kicker in high-fidelity. And, perhaps where contemporaries would hypnotize the listener into their world by sheer volume alone, I Break Horses lock firmly onto the very thing that makes each and every one of us ‘tick’. Our pulse. Our Hearts. The common thread that links the nine songs together; always present, always beating – the albums strength and presence guided entirely by it.
Coupled with Lindén’s vocal, a gorgeous Scandinavian croon that’s bathed in an ocean of reverb and tremelo, Hearts is quite the sonic experience. It can’t be cast aside via a few meagre adjectives or genre classifications; you have to live it, live inside it. It will soak you up, embrace you and give back what you put in and so much more.
MYSELF features the musicians: Fishbone, Ivan Neville, Leon Mobley of Ben Harper, Rocky George of Suicidal Tendencies, Greg Bell & UK Grammy winner Don Letts of Big Audio Dynamite.
