Autonomous Music releases Our Chimes/Our Piano,
a FREE digital 12″ from Marley Caroll,
on November 1, 2011

Pleased to announce that on Tuesday November 1, 2011 Marley Carroll will release Our Chimes/Our Piano, a digital 12”. Our Chimes/Our Piano will be available via Autonomous Music. This is the first release from Autonomous Music—who recently expanded beyond management and booking to include a free label–after Array Vol. 1, a compilation of Autonomous Music artists.

Marley Carroll is a prodigious multi-instrumentalist, producer and DJ from Asheville, North Carolina. The beginnings of his musicianship sprang from training in piano, percussion and scratch DJ technique. His 2007 debut album, Melanaster was the result of meticulous bedroom alchemy, sounding like a lost Radiohead LP submerged in ten feet of salt water. The smeared, melancholy pop songs tethered to abstract, electronic rhythms is what NPR called “gorgeously subdued glitch-pop”.

Recent buzz for Marley has been around his landmark abstract house remix of Emancipator’s “Bury Them Bones”. The track was included on Emancipator’s June 2011 release Remixes and became a favorite of the artist’s to play out on tour during summer 2011. Marley was invited to join the Beat Prodigies showcase at the 2011 Decibel Festival, alongside Shigeto, AraabMUZIK, and DJ Krush. While at Decibel Festival, it was announced that Marley would join the 2011 Moogfest lineup–as one of the only local Asheville musicians on the bill.

Taking some existing sketches in a spontaneous turn toward the direction of the “Bury Them Bones” remix, Our Chimes/Our Piano is a departure from Marley’s pop tendencies, for the purpose of exploring the house dynamic. With these purely instrumental tracks, he takes on a brighter sound. Relying on small gestures over long sequences and utilizing acoustic samples, Marley brings us a truly organic sound that is for fans of Four Tet, Caribou and Gold Panda

“Our Chimes” samples chimes from outside Marley’s home. It’s a warm and playful track that keeps you engaged with every small change.

“Our Piano” samples the piano in Marley’s childhood home. Delicate and grimy while still upbeat, the track is the perfect B-Side.

Our Chimes/Our Piano will be available for FREE at autonomousmusic.bandcamp.com

Portland beat maker and vocalist Natasha Kmeto has been on the upswing since the release of her latest album Expressor. Her live performances have been making waves, most notably supporting legendary acts such as Morcheeba, Meat Beat Manifesto, and making her debut appearance at LA’s groundbreaking Low End Theory club night. Portland’s foremost authority on beat music, devonwho took one of the more sultry tracks off of Expressor and flipped it into a deeply hypnotic and emotive remix that let’s his meticulous production stand tall while keeping the intended feeling of the Natasha’s vocals intact. Overall a fine demonstration of what Portland has to offer.

Portland Producer and vocalist Natasha Kmeto just released a new video for her upbeat anthem “Party Girl.” Directed by Harris Porter, the video shows a mostly-animated fantasy land where soundwaves transform into skylines and cool edits blur the boundaries between Kmeto’s physical form and the virtual world that surrounds her. Check out the video and keep you ears tuned because this multi talented beatress is definitely one to watch in 2011.

Natasha appears this Wednesday (2/16) at Los Angeles’s legendary club night Low End Theory with Blank Blue, and on Thursday (2/17) performs alongside beat maestros Austin Peralta and Strangeloop at the Kava Lounge in San Diego.

LA might get all the shine for the burgeoning beat scene, but a few states over in Colorado, producer Alex B (a.k.a. Alex Botwin) has been quietly setting up an abstract, instrumental fiefdom of his own. (That’s why we recently tapped him to host the Denver edition of our ongoing City Guide series for XLR8R TV.) As head of Elm and Oak, which functions as a record label, design shop, and clothing line, Botwin’s talents aren’t limited to just beatmaking, although his debut album, Moments, certainly garnered plenty of attention when it dropped earlier this year. Next week, he’ll be setting off on a massive US tour—check the litany of dates here—and as a little preview, he’s assembled this exclusive mix for the XLR8R podcast. It’s a layered, at times psychedelic, journey through hip-hop beats, dubstep brawn, and bedroom-studio skronk that nicely showcases Botwin’s talents; as it happens, he either produced or remixed half the songs here. Throw in some unreleased gems from like-minded beat producers, and this podcast is poised to get any beat freak salivating.

Finally new podcast from our fav.artist Alex B-dont miss it!
