For this offering he presents twelve impressive techno and ambient productions and fuses his love of classic UK techno with the contemporary sound that currently pulses through Berlin’s Berghain.

Zombie Disco Squad feat DJ Funk – Twerk

Zombie Disco Squad
Brains
Made To Play
28th May 2012

Bursting onto the club scene back in 2006, Zombie Disco Squad soon distinguished itself from the masses of electro producers clogging up blogs with a jacking house sensibility that stood him apart. Fast forward 6 years and releases on labels such as Dirty Bird and Sound Pellegrino, and Nat Self is finally ready to release the debut Zombie Disco Squad album, ‘Brains’, on Jesse Rose’s Made To Play label.

First single ‘Righteous Sound’, featuring 80s soul legend Omar, highlights Nat’s flair for classic house music, Omar’s velvet vocals slide over tough Chicago rhythms; think Marvin Gaye as Derrick Carter’s MC and you’ll start to get the idea.

As versatile as it is banging, ‘Brains’ dishes up classic raw house moments like ‘Twerk’ primed for the dancefloor and ready to go off, subtle electronic movers like ‘Dedication’. All together ‘Brains’ is an assault on the senses; one you want repeated again and again.

Having remixed the likes of Cashmere, Black Box and Groove Armada, Nat has proven himself over the years an expert at reshaping the sounds of others. Throughout ‘Brains’ his skill at finding and using that bedrock of house music, the sample, shines through. In his hands, tracks like, ‘Timesome’ become destined for hands-in-the-air moments on sun-bleached terraces this summer.

Zombie Disco Squad sit at the forefront of modern day house music, taking influences from cultures around the world and melting them down into what has become a trademark sound. With a loyal following across the dance music spectrum, it’s never surprising to hear his tracks being spun by techno artists such as Luciano and Ricardo Villalobos, house legends Derrick Carter and Sneak to the likes of Radio 1’s Annie Mac, and even London’s Rinse FM.

An artist that has been bubbling and pushing boundaries for years, playing the world’s most exciting festivals and underground clubs such as his Made For The Night residency at Watergate, Berlin, 2012 looks set to be the year the world says ‘Zombie Disco Squad, you’ve paid your dues; welcome to the headline spot.’

Filterwolf – Klezmer’s Revenge

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on March 15, 2011 by E.N.

At the beginning there was a concept to let Filterwolf‘s favorite or befriended artists interpret their version of the original track ‘Klezmer’s Revenge‘.
An the result of this global project is breathtaking: We have 11 sophisticated hymns here, coming among others from Buenos Aires via Paris to Berlin, making the original track shine in various rich garments.
The original track ‘Klezmer’s Revenge‘ is predestined to be an instant hit with its catchy clarinet melody and overwhelming chor corresponding with the pumping tech house rhythm und swinging percussions. Guaranteed dancefloor burner, which is already being played on the finest electronic music radio shows around the world.
Niederflur released their first longplayer and diverse singles and eps on Richie Hawtin’s Minus and started their own label last year, on which they released an incredible second album. Niederflur‘s interpretation of ‘Klezmer’s Revenge‘ is in their own words a ‘Sonnenaufgangstechno’, a track which they recommend to be played at the sunrise in the clubs. It is wild, intense, full of sweat energy and otherwordly in its hypnotic atmosphere.
Pablo Placeres is a producer from Lanzarote and has had several releases on Music Taste Records and High Seven Records. This talented artist makes ‘Klezmer’s Revenge‘ as deep as the sea and punctuates this deepness with very emotional arrangement of the sound.
Egon Orange, Berlin based artist, who released various eps on Dilo’s prestigious Igloo label, interprets the track in his freestyle minimal trademark sound, floating around with the beats and samples, airy, elegantly and always majestically.
Lemy Leopard, a new producer and remixer from Paris, is giving ‘Klezmer’s Revenge‘ completely new treatment and transforms it into a pompous and enchantig deep house adventure.
Kntu is a radio dj and producer from Mexico and has already released an EP on Filigran. His take on the original track is a pure dancefloor bomb, state of the art tech house with a mesmerizing bass line.
Leonel Vivanco is one of the first artist releasing on Filigran and has been compared to Deadmau5 in various electronic music magazines. His interpretation is a juicy ride into the world of hypermodern house.
Xtramol is a Buenos Aires based sound and mastering engineer, who has released his music on Italo Business, Plastik.FM and Shufflemood. Xtramol plays with all the of the registers of techno and house and changes the melody direction completely from the middle of the track, as if he wants us to come deeper to an unforgettable sonic journey with him.
Mateo & Spirit are the new hit remix producers from Budapest, which had a big track ‘India’ last year on Tracer Records with over 371000 views on youtube, reaching the beatport top ten and getting charted by the biggest names all over the globe. Mateo & Spirit give ‘Klezmer’s Revenge‘ their superminimal boost injection transforming the track into a stunning and non-recurring techno experience.
Tenderheart, who releases his tracks on Resopal Schallware, is giving the track glitzy feelings and puts it on a very sophisticated level with its unorthodox arrangements and profound, almost cinematic sound brilliance.
Doctor Jok released his first album last year on Dirty Stuff Records to a critical acclaim. His minimal techno interpretation is a hot, beefy and effective jewel for the peaktime on the dancefloor.
Julio Portillo is one of the Filigran artists on this release and remixes the original track into a hybrid future house jazz, making it sound like as if we had 2111 and not 2011. This is Portillo’s definition of the next level of hybrid house, making it a marvellous conclusion of this fine Filigran release.
The original track is the first single of Filterwolf‘s new album ‘Night Patterns’ which is going to be released in may.

Thievery Corporation- It Takes A Thief

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on September 23, 2010 by E.N.

15TH YEAR ANNIVERSARY
ESL MUSIC
RELEASE DATE: 15TH NOVEMBER 2010

‘It Takes a Thief ‘is a retrospective compilation from Thievery Corporation celebrating 15 years of pioneering and revolutionary beats by the masters of downtempo music.

The album is a collection of tracks specially selected by Rob Garza and Eric Hilton for both long time fans and for music lovers who have heard of Thievery Corporation but may have never listened to the band. Rob Garza said “looking back and realising it’s been almost 15 years since we started, we figured maybe now is the time. These tracks are some of our favourite moments.”

Thievery Corporation have released 5 studio albums to date and sold over 1.5 million records since 1996. Thievery’s tracks have been licensed for film, TV and advertisements including True Blood, Entourage, Six Feet Under, CSI, Skyy Vodka, Jaguar, Lexus, EA Sports and many others.

Spanning right across the last 15 years of their career, the album unfolds in a kaleidoscope of sonic colour. It serves to demonstrate the versatility and diversity of their sound as it showcases classic tracks like “Warning Shots” featuring incendiary reggae toaster Sleepy Wonder, “Vampires” featuring Afrobeat heir Femi Kuti, “Shadows of Ourselves” featuring multi-lingual Persian singer Lou Lou, and of course the hit track “Lebanese Blonde” featuring the late jazz chanteuse Pam Bricker. ‘It Takes a Thief’ also features an exclusive, never before released track “The Passing Stars” also featuring Pam.
This release is, however, more than just a collection of great songs. It is also an inspirational example of a band on a small independent label who can transcend the hype machine that surrounds the modern music industry and the ‘throw away culture’ inherent in dance music to become a ‘dominant force’ as godfathers of the electronic landscape.

From the release of the duo’s first LP, its been remarkable to witness the growth of Thievery Corporation’s fan base as it has steadily grown in such a DIY, organic fashion. Hilton himself notes, “We were so inspired by the true do-it-yourself ethos of the DC punk scene that Rob and I both grew up on. A lot of great music reaches fans without the typical hype and fanfare enjoyed by bands on the majors.”

This fan base has only got stronger as the years have passed, to such an extent that Thievery Corporation have been able to sell out the famed Hollywood Bowl, London’s Shepherd’s Bush Empire and countless other legendary venues around the globe.

Their infectious live show features 15 musicians and a carousel of performers unlike any other live band playing today. In 2009, Thievery Corporation sold out 2 nights at New York’s Terminal 5, and recently finished a 13 date European tour including Morocco, Rome, Athens, Paris, Berlin and Amsterdam.

“As we are in the midst of recording our sixth studio album this year, it just seemed like the time was right to release this collection. It’s been a great journey – musically and personally – and we just wanted to have that one definitive document. It Takes a Thief is it,” explains Garza. “We feel like it’s a great look back for some; and for others, an excellent introduction to our sound.”

The band is preparing to announce a major US tour for the autumn of 2010 and is recording a new album to be released in 2011.
