PHOTEK RELEASES BRAND NEW ALBUM ‘KU:PALM’ ON OCTOBER 23, 2012

- Photek’s first artist album in over a decade

- Album Tour to commence January 2013

- GRAMMY nominated in 2012 for his TRON soundtrack remix of Daft Punk

Hot off his Grammy nomination for the Daft Punk remix on the Tron soundtrack, legendary drum and bass pioneer, PHOTEK, drops his new album KU:PALM on October 23, 2012, his first album in over a decade. After a brief time out, PHOTEK signaled he was back in the studio at the start of 2011 with the Avalanche EP –  his first dancefloor-focused release for a number of years. PHOTEK has since gone on to deliver the Aviator EP, a much-hyped DJ-Kicks release for !K7 and now… Now is the time for the artist’s full album. Now is the time for KU:PALM.

“As the album started to take shape it felt like it was sitting halfway between Modus Operandi and Solaris – which I felt was a good place to be. Now it’s finished, it might well be my favourite album to date.”With ‘Modus Operandi’ and ‘Solaris’ both regarded as seminal releases of their time – the word ‘classic’ is  is no  over-statement – this is the message from a producer who has been there and done it all, and is feeling more inspired than ever.

Over the past 20-years Photek, has been on a sonic-journey that has seen him explore all corners of electronic music. Often surprising, always original, it was in 1995 that he released his first Photek release – the still-amazing ‘Natural Born Killa’ EP for Goldie’s Metalheadz. It was a release that transcended the sound of drum’n’bass at the time and his deeper, more intricate take on D’n’B/Jungle went on to form a whole new sub-genre for the scene. Fast-forward to 2012 and he’s just as well-known for his ambient works, cinematic scores from Pirates of the Caribean and The Italian Job, and love of house music. It’s this open-minded approach to sound that has revived so much of his passion for the dancefloor.

Photek  has  drawn  inspiration  from  both  the  old  and  new  on  KU:PALM,  delivering  an  album  that  is  defined  by  new ideas and superior sonics – not genre classification. He explains, “This album had to be the right listening experience for the headphone listeners as much as on a club soundsystem.”

Varying in tempos and ranging in influence, recent tracks such as ‘Aviator’, ‘Sleepwalking’ and ‘This Love’ (with vocals by Ray La Montagne) all feature, sitting alongside a variety of brand new material.

Boys Noize new track “What You Want” from Out Of The Black Album Release October 2 on Boysnoize Records

First Ever Live Show on October 6th in Berlin

Boys Noize at LA’s HARD Festival 8/3 + NYC’s Electric Zoo Festival 9/2

Boys Noize announces his third album Out Of The Black to be released on October 2ndworldwide via his own label Boysnoize Records. The first rousing track from the album called “What You Want”

Alex Ridha – aka Boys Noize - is a Berlin-based producer, DJ and label owner who started producing and DJing at a very early age and is known internationally as a one of the most valued electronic artists (Independent Music Award in 2010 and 3 consecutive times Best Electronic Artist on Beatport).

The new album perfectly bridges the gap between his previous two efforts Oi Oi Oi andPOWER; providing the requisite in-your-face electro bang of classic Boys Noize on tracks like “What You Want”, “Rocky 2” and “XTC”, or more melodic songs like “Ich R U“ and “Reality“. At a time when mainstream electronic music, particularly the pervasive cultures of EDM and dubstep, have moved dance music out of the clubs and into the stadiums, Ridha is quick to acknowledge the old school house and acid records that shaped him as a DJ; the very same records that continue to bubble up as an influence on Out Of The Black.

Boys Noize is proud to bring a full live show to the stage for the first time on October 6th in Berlin, at the start of an extensive 25-city European live tour (dates below + more to be announced soon).

Alex Ridha is at the heart of Boysnoize Records and BNR Trax that involves a roster of over 100 releases by more than a dozen different artists (Spank Rock, The Faint, Mixhell, Strip Steve, Le1f, Housemeister and17-year old SCNTST etc). Along releasing two long players Oi Oi Oi and POWER with contemporary anthems “&Down,” ”Don’t Believe The Hype” and “Jeffer” he’s had numerous releases with Mr. Oizo (aka Handbraekes), Erol Alkan, Jarvis Cocker and more.

Boys Noize has been on the forefront of remixing indie artists like Feist’s “My Moon, My Man,” long before it was a custom to remix non-dance tracks. Other remixes range from the likes of David LynchN.E.R.D, Depeche ModeSnoop DoggDaft Punk, The Chemical Brothers to name a few. Having worked with Scissor Sisters, Gonzales,Spank RockSantigold and Kelis, the highly sought after producer, is ready to show the world his best work to date.

Teengirl Fantasy announces new album ‘Tracer’ out August 20th on R&S Records

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , on June 26, 2012 by E.N.

While students at Oberlin College, Nick Weiss and Logan Takahashi connected over a shared love of classic house and techno records that prompted them to make, “some kind of dance music that wasn’t just emulating what we were hearing.” The duo formed their music organically, improvising over loops that eventually materialized into full-fledged compositions. Rather than relying on triggering loops, or quantization, Teengirl Fantasy’s music has always been performed and composed live, resulting in a form of discourse between the band and their instruments. The result is a-typical for electronic dance music – colorful, maximalist textures and tones that move along with a driving rhythm yet still retain a distinctly human and emotional core.

In the fall of 2010, True Panther Sounds and Merok released Teengirl Fantasy’s debut LP, 7AM. Titled after the, “confused, dreamy, half-awake, half-asleep state that one experiences after staying up all night partying”, 7AM was critically praised for its creative use of samples and experimentation. The album made numerous year-end lists including FACT, Pitchfork, XLR8R and established the pair as electronic visionaries.

On their sophomore LP, Tracer, Teengirl Fantasy cuts through some of the haze of their earlier recordings to create their most compositionally sophisticated work yet. “It’s more focused, far-reaching and it takes more risks”. Unlike 7AM, Tracer is completely sample-free and features an array of vocalists including Panda Bear, Romanthony (of Daft Punk’s “One More Time” fame), Laurel Halo, and newcomer Kelela. For the songs with vocalists, their approach is, “a wacked version of the pop format”. The album is sonically maximal and symphonic, with heavily layered songs containing multiple elements. “The editing is more painstaking- there’s more crafting to the songs”, says the duo. Although Tracer touches on an array of genres such as techno, pop, R&B, and house, it simulates a cohesive journey.

‘Tracer’ will be released August 20th on R&S Records,

DJ Sneak & Phil Weeks pres. Bubba Beats & Kid Piston(preview)

What’s it all about?
Two of house music’s biggest hitters – DJ Sneak and Phil Weeks – get together for a highly anticipated three-track collaboration.  Under the alias of Bubba Beats and Kid Piston (we’ll let you decide which is which!) the 102nd release on Robsoul has a distinct acid theme as the two masters take things back to basics, working it out on original hardware.

What does it sound like?
As the title’s suggest, ‘Breakdown Acid’ and ‘Acid Disko’ bring acidic 303 flavours to complement the typical punishing beats and jacking grooves that Sneak and Phil are so well known for.  ‘Class In Session’ treads a lighter, funkier path but the hypnotic and devastating end result proves just as effective.

Who’s involved?
What can be said about DJ Sneak that hasn’t been said before!  As one of the second wave of influential house producers coming out of Chicago in the early 1990’s (he was born in Puerto Rico and moved to the Windy City in the early 80’s) he has released hundreds of records and remixes and is a true A-list DJ on the worldwide circuit.  Innovator to many, Sneak’s love for music inspired others like Daft Punk, Basement Jaxx and Armand Van Helden.

Since 2000 Phil Weeks has released his own unique brand of house music on some of the world’s leading underground labels including 2020 Vision, Music For Freaks, Brique Rouge, Detour, Adult Only and his own Robsoul, which is responsible for the majority of his original output.  He has also graced more mainstream imprints along the way such as Cr2 and Toolroom.
