DJ Fresh ft RaVaughn – ‘The Feeling’ (Official Video)

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , , , , , on August 24, 2012 by E.N.

Following Number 1 hits ‘ Louder’ and ‘Hot Right Now’ featuring the solo chart-topping Rita Ora, as well as Top 10 hit ‘The Power’ with Dizzee Rascal, DJ Fresh is back with his brand-new track ‘The Feeling‘ featuring hotly-tipped RaVaughn, released on 23rd September on Ministry of Sound!
Shot on location in Tokyo by director, Ivan Ogilvie, the video to ‘The Feeling‘, puts a spotlight on the burgeoning Japanese custom scooter subculture called ‘space invaders’. Following local bikers around the city, the video reveals a dizzying array of custom scooters, from futuristic stretch versions to brightly coloured modified machines.
Ogilvie says; “‘The Feeling’ is about being out there doing what you enjoy with your friends, so I wanted to capture real people on these amazing, futuristic bikes cruising Tokyo’s neon streets. The video follows on from other works I’ve done looking into graffiti and other youth cultures in the UK. It’s all about style and I think there’s something really genuine and interesting about that.”

DJ Fresh AKA Dan Stein is leading the new wave of British dance artists with over 1 million sales and two sold-out UK live tours already to his name. Guests on the album ‘Nextlevelism’, out 1st October on Ministry Of Sound,  read like a who’s who of the biggest names and hottest rising stars in music including Professor Green, Rizzle Kicks and Ms Dynamite.

Tricky – Time To Dance Remixes (preview)

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on June 11, 2011 by E.N.

Tricky is to release Time To Dance (RUG417D), from his most recent album Mixed Race, as a digital single on Monday the 18th of July 2011. The single will feature remixes from Maya Jane Coles, Doorly and FiFi Rong.
Mixed Race was released last September to great critical acclaim. Tricky has since completed tours of the UK, Australia, Europe and South America with many sold out shows. Tricky will be headlining Blissfields Festival in Winchester on July 2nd before heading into the studio with some interesting electronic artists – full details to follow!

The Time To Dance remixes have already been picking up support from a broad spectrum of dance music’s elite including Ramon Tapia, Plump DJs, John Selway, Groove Armada, Sister Bliss, Kruse & Nuernberg, Mighty Mouse, Hector Romero and Nick Warren. Here is further information on the remixers themselves:

With covers of Mixmag and DJ Mag Weekly already under her belt, and a Radio 1 Essential Mix landing in July, 23-yr old Maya Jane Coles is the rising producer/DJ on everyone’s lips. Support for her productions are as wide ranging as Skream to Scuba on the dubstep side through to Jamie Jones and Laurent Garnier on the house front. As a remixer in her own right Maya has remixed artists from MSTRKRFT through to Todd Terry and as one half of dub-electronica duo She is Danger, her credits include Massive Attack, Delphic and Gorillaz.

The second mix on the package comes from blogger’s favourite, Doorly. The Ibiza Rocks resident has been making just as many waves from Sydney to London as he has in the Balearics – most recently on a 30-date arena tour of North America supporting Rusko. Famed for his ‘Pigeon Hole This’ label and attitude; Doorly’s remix credits list to many to mention but include Prodigy, Groove Armada, Dizzee Rascal, Basement Jaxx and Sia with the likes of Fake Blood, Tiga, Shy FX and Soulwax supporting them at club.

And finally, the third remix comes from FiFi Rong. Signed to Tricky’s Brown Punk label, FiFi Rong is one of London’s freshest talents producing from Dubstep through to UK Funky.

From his East Baltimore roots and status as the cities youngest working DJ, his summer’s interning for the likes of Def Jam and Rock-A-fella, his successful music and fashion brand (Milkcrate), to his tour dates with Lily Allen, Mark Ronson, Dizzee Rascal, Rakim, and most recently Kanye West, LaCrate has always been in the business of party. He’s also credited with first discovering Spank Rock and Amanda Blank (both appeared on LaCrate’s first release 2005’s B-more Gutter Music) and it was Aaron who introduced MNDR to Mark Ronson when Mark needed new artists for his new CD Record Collection. This lead to the collaboration “Bang Bang Bang.”

LaCrate often pays homage to the Baltimore art scene and collaborates with the local performers such as MZ Streamz who appears on “Tidal Wave.” In 2009 LaCrate teamed up with Debonair Samir for the release of the first B-more major label record in history, B-more Club Crack. Spain’s Sonar Fest Headed To Chicago (Sept. 9-11)

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , , , , , on June 16, 2010 by E.N.

Sonar, Barcelona’s experimental and electronic music festival, is to hold its first event in Chicago between Sept. 9-11.

Sonar was founded in 1994, but since 2002 has held parallel events outside Spain. Its first excursion into the United States was last year, with two events held in Washington and New York. In its early years, Sonar attracted mainly United Kingdom musicians, as well as a strong contingent from Barcelona’s home region of Catalonia.

Sonar says it expects the Chicago festival to become a regular event. The Chicago operation will be promoted together with Bonnaroo promoter AC Entertainment, with the collaboration of the cultural organization Institut Ramon Llull.

Sonar’s aim is to “disseminate the philosophy of the Barcelona festival and adapt it to new cities and formats.” In Chicago, it will present a “multi-disciplinary line-up with an experimental slant,” says Sonar, and will focus on emerging talent and local scenes in both North America and Catalonia.

The Sonar by Day events in Chicago will be held at the Chicago Cultural Center (CCC), and the headquarters of the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs. The program will be completed with Sonar by Night shows and sessions.

The line-up will as usual combine some important names and less mainstream and more experimental offerings, and details will be announced in mid-July.

Caribou, Speech Debelle, Pete Tong, LCD Soundsystem, Air, Plastikman, Hot Chip, the Chemical Brothers, Roxy Music and Dizzee Rascal will play the Barcelona event June 17-19.

Since 2002, Sonar has held 24 events around the world, such as Lisbon (2002), Neuchatel (2002), Hamburg (2002-06), Tokyo (2002-2004-2006), London (2002-2005, 2009 and 2010) Rome (2003), Sao Paulo (2004), Lyon (2004), Buenos Aires (2006), and Seoul (2006).
