San Fermin Announces Debut Self-Titled Album On Downtown Records on September 17th

Brooklyn musician Ellis Ludwig-Leone, the songwriter and composer behind San Fermin, has announced his signing to Downtown Records and the subsequent release of his self-titled, debut album San Fermin on September 17. Ludwig-Leone, who studied music composition at Yale University, envisioned the album’s concept prior to writing the music or knowing who would perform it. Pulling inspiration from Hemingway’s The Sun Also Rises, he conceived the album as a dialogue between an earnest, unhappy man and a cynical, elusive woman. Upon Ludwig-Leone’s graduation he traveled to the Canadian Rocky Mountains where he wrote the album over the course of six weeks. “Writing for a group of unknown musicians gave the writing process a kind of operatic scope,” Ludwig-Leone says. On his return he enlisted the help of longtime friend and vocalist Allen Tate as well as female vocalists Holly Laessig and Jess Wolfe (Lucius) to give voices to the characters he developed.

A pastiche of post-rock, chamber-pop and contemporary classical composition, San Fermin is strongly influenced by Ludwig-Leone’s unique background in classical music, and the album fittingly features instrumentalists from the likes of Bon Iver, yMusic, and Asphalt Orchestra. A composer of instrumental music as well, Ludwig-Leone recently finished a ballet score for BalletCollective (comprised of New York City Ballet members), to be premiered by ACME at the Joyce Theater this summer, and is currently arranging a piece with Sonic Youth‘s Lee Ranaldo for the Solistenensemble Kaleidoskop. He is an assistant to the composer Nico Muhly.

For the first time ever, French synth-rock duo Housse de Racketwill be stepping foot left of the Atlantic Ocean when they tour the United States with fellow Frenchmen, pop trio Yelle, beginning December 2^nd at the Fillmore in Miami, FL. The tour will be making additional stops in Georgia, Maryland, New York, and Pennsylvania.

The tour is following the release of their sophomore album, Alesia.  In honor the tour, Housse de Racket is releasing a sneak preview tour video, as well as a remix of their first single Roman on November 22^nd.

French synth-rock duo Housse de Racketis back with a brand new album Alesia, out this August. Alesia comes as a follow-up to their wildly successful debut, Forty Love, which garnered critical acclaim. The first available track from the explosive new album Alesia, seen on Kitsune Maison 10, is “Chateau,” check out the remix HERE.

The French duo will be touring throughout America in December with fellow Frenchmen, pop trio Yelle.

For Alesia, Housse de Racket has teamed up with French super-producer, Phillipe Zdar (Cassius, Phoenix, The Rapture) to create a collection of eleven electro-pop songs in the vein of the bands’ own wide range of musical influences; from Ennio Morricone to David Bowie. The result is a unique compilation of tracks that embody the sound Housse de Racket has made famous, both through their first album and their live show. Recorded half in French and half in English, Alesia is an evolution of sound; a bold new direction for the bands’ sophomore album.

Housse De Racket, which translates in English to ‘tennis racket cover,’ are Victor Le Masne and Pierre Leroux. The two are highly sought-after musical collaborators with impressive resumes; they’ve worked with the likes of Chilly Gonzales, Phoenix, and Air.

Their Debut Native To Is Set For Release on June 14th on Kitsuné/ Cooperative Music / Downtown Records

“Filmed in a sleepy French suburb, starring a group of the coolest kids in the cul-de-sac, The Greeks’ video reflects the song — it’s about everything, and kinda nothing, and being young, or something.”  Is Tropical explained MEGAFORCE’s concept of the violent Manga-inspired music video: “Part Rumblefish, part Die Hard, part Akira, we wanted to work together to create something both visually appealing and aesthetically relevant to the band. 

“We like kids, we like gangs, we really like daydreaming and imagination; the video straddles the line between nostalgia and the visual death-porn of our generation – the action film. Don’t get carried away by politics – this is a straight-up kid brawl the way it played out in your head when you were stealing your mum’s mascara to be like Arnie in Predator.”

Is Tropical said: “It isn’t a shocking rebuke to our drama queen, populist news culture either – just naive, blissful shoot-your-mate until he’s definitely dead war-games -the way you wish it still could be”.
 
Following the release of the teaser video two weeks ago, the UK trio unleashed their official music video for “The Greeks” late last week to an overwhelming response with a combining Youtube and Vimeo count of about 900.000 views.  “We’ve been wanting to make such a video since the age of 6 !”  says the French directors team MEGAFORCE (Kid Cudi, Metronomy), the animation was done by 7 at Machine Molleand produced by Jules Dieng at Elnino.

Architecture in Helsinki have released the video for “Escapee,” the third single from their new album Moment Bends (V2/Cooperative Music USA/Downtown Records). Like their last two singles, “That Beep” and “Contact High,” the track is an infectious and danceable slice of indie pop perfection. The song’s wistful, nostalgic, feel is echoed by the video – which features a young protagonist breaking out from the confines of suburban life. Architecture in Helsinki kick off their US tour next week at the Henry Fonda Theater on June 1st.

In large parts, Moment Bends is in dialogue with the dance floor, without being a slave to any particular rhythm.  Like the best pop albums it bubbles with an immediacy while revealing new layers after repeated listens.  It also showcases the band’s most concise and sophisticated songwriting yet.  Recorded over a two year period in the their studio space, Buckingham Palace, songwriter Cameron Bird says: “Moment Bends was all about being at one with our ideas, obsessed with popular music and falling in love with our hometown.  We wanted to build a record to get lost in.  A record that always feels exactly what you are feeling”.

The first release through Kitsune’s newly- announced partnership with Cooperative/Downtown Records will be Is Tropical’s debut album Native To, hitting stores on June 14th.  Already known for their stunning live shows where, behind their trademark masks, they effortlessly swoop from raw pop anthems to lo-fi dance songs, the young UK-based trio are currently offering their first single, the up-tempo, dance-rock number, “The Greeks” through an exclusive download on Kitsune’s site here.
 
With their new album Native To, the UK trio Is Tropical are releasing their unique and signature brand of dance-pop music in America. The twelve tracks that comprise the album flow seamlessly from one to the next while at the same time covering the broad spectrum of musical stylings that catapulted them into the spotlight to begin with. Highlights of the album include the hard-hitting, lo-fi track, “Oranges”, as well as the dreamy and whimsical “Clouds” and “Lies”. See the video for the track “South Pacific” here.
  
Is Tropical first entered the international scene with the release of their debut single ‘When O’ When’/’Seasick Mutiny’on Hit Club Records in January 2010. Produced by Alalal (The Big Pink / Klaxons), the single attracted the attention of fans and critics alike. 

Dividing opinions with the band’s refusal to show their faces, as well as their broad, all-encompassing sound, Is Tropical was soon at the forefront of the conflict between lo-fi purists and those who cherished the strange electronic instrumentals. They soon signed to legendary French label Kitsuné (Digitalism / Two Door Cinema Club).
