DJ Marky ‘All Night Long’ at Fire, Vauxhall this Saturday + ‘Sounds Of The Innerground’ out now (Stream)

Fresh from the release of the ‘Sounds Of The Innerground’ compilation this week, DJ Marky will be taking the reins during a special all night session for Basslaced at Fire, Vauxhall on Saturday.

Eschewing the rapid-fire DJ slots that are so commonplace in dance music, this is a chance to see one of the most revered DJs of recent times delve deep into his record bag and craft a unique sonic narrative over the course of the evening. Running right through until 6am Marky will have the chance to explore the full depths of his myriad musical influences and the crowd will be treated to a selection of fresh cuts, timeless classics and rare records from the vaults, spanning hip hop, house, drum & bass, jungle and more, all imbued with his trademark soul.

In a career that spans over two decades, DJ Marky has gone from an avid record collector and music enthusiast in his native Brazil to an internationally respected DJ, producer and label owner and his credentials are self-evident. From igniting dancefloors across the globe to releasing some of the most seminal drum and bass tracks ever to see wax, he continues to amass an unsurpassable list of achievements, all driven by his dedication, phenomenal technical skills and unique flair. Following the release of the new compilation on his Innerground Music imprint and with the recent announcement of the first Marky & Friends festival in Sao Paulo, Marky remains at the forefront of not just the drum and bass scene, but the music world at large.

The show will be hosted by lynchpin MCs SP:MC & Lowqui with DJ Take providing the support on the night.

Keysound Allstars Vol 2 (Keysound Recordings) out May 27th

Building from the impact of their debut compilation “This Is How We Roll”, Keysound Recordings proudly present the second volume of their 12″ series “Keysound Allstars Volume 2″. Following on from where the compilation left off, the EP presents four fresh tracks from this emerging collection of new producers.

Leading off the EP is the first release on Keysound from Etch. Pitched somewhere between garage and dubstep, “Scatta” draws from the elastic b-lines of mid 90s jump up jungle, littered with touches of Metalheadz’ noir city-soundscapes. It looks backwards to go forward. Like  – but distinct from – Wen, Visionist and Beneath on Keysound before him, Etch has seemingly found a new dark flex to explore.

Equally looking one way to go another is Walton’s “Homage”, except this time the Hyperdub protege has found deadly deep subs in a different context: the skippy swung funk of 2step garage – with a deft nod to hardcore.

After his contributions to “This is how we roll”, Visionist returns to Keysound with perhaps his most developed creation, “From a Place”. Like much of his work, “From a…” rethinks grime from an increasingly abstracted position, blending noir textures with threatening vocal missives, only to litter it with traces of bitter-sweet melodies. The inclusion of a Visionist track on Kode9′s forthcoming Rinse FM mix CD suggests he’s moving in the right direction.

Finally the 12″ is concluded by a longtime Keysound fave, “Sunblazed” by Fresh Paul. Alongside track “Blaster” on “This Is How We Roll”, Fresh Paul shows a completely different take on grime to say, Visionist or Wen. Characterised by neon, synth-lead colour and ripples of emotional waves, Fresh Paul’s sound hints at the bright future that awaits him.

The 12″ is released on Keysound Recordings on May 27th.

Brand new label AutomAte Deep was masterminded in 2012 by London’s Deficit as a way to showcase what he sees as the shining lights in the dark, dank world of deep and experimental drum and bass.

Starting this, the second release on the label, is Future Roots & Echonic‘s track ‘Oak Tree‘. Filling the void with a large wobble owing to immense sub pressure, the top end counter-attacks with skitterish percussion and a broken down jungle beat.
