The Frim – ‘Bassline Skanka’ EP(preview)

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , , , , on November 17, 2012 by E.N.

20 year-old DJ / producer The Frim has been extremely busy both on the road and in the studio lately. Currently deep in the midst of the colossal Firepower tour across the US, he is set to release his debut EP on the label of the same name on 20th November, ‘Bassline Skanka’.

The young musician has been making music and toying with different genres since his early teens, but it is in the last two years that The Frim aka Nicholas Friml has found his calling with dubstep and drumstep production. Friml’s intricate and powerful tracks have already been supported by some of bass music’s biggest names such as Flux Pavilion and Bassnectar, as well as Firepower’s head honcho Datsik himself.

Eponymous opener ‘Bassline Skanka’ doesn’t waste any time in getting down to business. Setting the scene with its eerie piano chords, ticking hi-hats and warped vocals, it quickly spirals out of control as the stomping drums battle it out with a fierce bass drop. Up next, The Frim switches things up on ‘Perfect Score’. Opening in a blare of sirens and crashing percussion, the tightly coiled production delivers a deadly wrecking ball swing. A remix of ‘Perfect Score’ from Firepower alumnus Getter also features on the EP, taking it in to new territory with his signature gutteral bass.

Continuing to bring the heat, ‘Error’s sparse rhythm anchors the juddering bass line as it rips through the track. The clipped ‘error’ vocal sample becomes a key component in the fabric of the track, creating tension and suspense throughout. Concluding the EP on a different note, Drop It’ ups the speed for a manic drumstep workout. Unleashing a flurry of pounding drums and grimy bass, The Frim switches up the tempo half way through, dropping it back down for the second drop as he throws everyone off guard.

Quickly proving himself as a unique and talented DJ and producer, at just 20 years old, The Frim is most definitely one to watch!

Beat-Slicer Cryptex Unleashes Reglitch of Skrillex’s “Bangarang”
Free Download of Multi-track Mashup

Release Date: December 27th, 2011

LA beat-slicer Cryptex is at it again, this time with a chopped and sliced mashup remix of the title track from Skrillex’s brand new EP, “Bangerang”. The original clocks in at a stomping 110 BPM, right in the heart of Cryptex’s midtempo realm. Syncopated cuts quickly morph from twisting snares to a familiar step, all the way retaining the high energy of the original. A few splashes of flavor come in the form of melodic bits from acclaimed Skrillex classics, serving to keep up the variation that Cryptex brings to the table.

“23-year-old Tigran Mimosa thrills audiences with his vibration-laden sonic endeavors and charismatic stage presence. His set at this year’s Lightning in a Bottle is the stuff of legend, although he calls playing for a sold out crowd of 10,000 at Colorado’s Redrocks Amphitheatre “the most epic moment of my musical career.” Sound: MiMOSA produces hip-hop infused, deep bass dubstep constructed with expertly arranged synth-crunch layers that build to explosive moments of sonic boom.
-Huffington Post

“It’s hard to tell where exactly a MiMOSA track is going to take you; Tigran does some non-traditional things when it comes to syncopation and mixed meter, and at Zoo this year, he mixed up his heavier, grimy bass beats with interjections of top-40 in unusual ways.” – 5 Acts to Watch: Flavorpill

“I’m not sure he belongs in the dubstep genre, because I’m not sure he belongs in any genre. He doesn’t follow the normal rules of music. One question: “Does it have enough bass to rattle your brain around inside your skull? Good.” Of course” -Earmilk

Elite Force & Klaus Badelt – Shockland+free download

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on June 16, 2011 by E.N.

Elite Force has been properly smashing it over the past two years.

First we had a series of dubstepbreaks refixes and remakes that featured the likes of Bar 9, Datsik, Benga and Caspa, and then early last year he dropped the MASSIVE ‘Revamped’ album on U&A to universal critical acclaim, and instigated a total Beatport takeover in doing so. Releases followed on Excision’s ‘Rottun Recordings’, where he continued to mess with the formula and take dubstep into the breaks arena and back again, and now, in one of his most ambitious projects to date, he has dropped a peerless 10-track album of top quality bass music in the ‘Shockland’ album that’s out this week.

Lalo Schifrin Vs Elite Force – Bullit Theme (Elite Force’s Dopestep Remix – Extended Mix)

The music of ‘Shockland’ is genre-free, but it’s all united by fearsome bass, charging percussion, broken beats and the omnipresence of an awesome 70-piece orchestra. The tracks contained within were written for the game Motorstorm Apocalypse for the PS3 (which was released a couple of months back to great acclaim) in collaboration with Oscar-winning classical / soundtrack composer Klaus Badelt, whose work you will be familiar with if you’ve watched Pirates of The Caribbean or Gladiator.
Far from being a pure dancefloor album, as was Revamped, this is a much more complex beast and something to immerse yourself in – a world of moody, epic orchestration, with dark turns, emotive swells & savage drops. It’s soundtrack music first & foremost, but in creating these extended versions with more than half an eye on the dancefloor, Elite Force has succeeded in taking this widescreen sound straight onto the big systems. Dubstep, downtempo, breakbeat and even drum & bass are all covered on ‘Shockland’.

Meanwhile you can check out Elite Force live over the coming months with a full list of shows here

MAL018: Downlink’s “Deep Space”(Video)+Free Download Stagga RMX

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on June 15, 2011 by E.N.

MalLabel Music has been on a rocket ride to the heavens in 2011. Fresh off the heels of their release of The Widdler’s funky jam “Flexstar” comes a smashing number called “Deep Space” by none other than Canada’s master of musical machines, Downlink. The release includes an amazing original music video starring Downlink and the MalLabel Crew.

“Deep Space” is a maniacal and mechanically adept rocker that any fan of Downlink’s work will appreciate and want to rinse in every set. It’s filled with gushing bass drops and wiggly bass stabs that will launch dance floors high into the stratosphere.

Supporting on the release are veterans of the bass industry Stagga, SPL, and Blackheart. Stagga’s remix, released as a free 320, quivers with signature space-aged sweeps and bleeps. SPL’s rework of the tune is what you would expect from this monarch of the Pacific Northwest’s bass culture: a dark and dangerous banger with heavy switches and an enviably tough attitude. The final remix by San Francisco’s Blackheart is determined and gritty, rolling forward with a sporty jaunt, and it nicely rounds out the release.

Come fly with MalLabel Music! Grab your copy of the release today exclusively at Beatport. Don’t forget to check out the remarkable original music video and grab your free copy of Stagga’s remix! Engage engines and let the countdown begin!
