Mt Eden started out as a bedroom project between two New Zealand teens, Jesse Cooper, 13, and Harley Rayne, 14. Fast-forward to 2013 and Mt Eden’s ‘Sierra Leone’ has clocked up over 14 million YouTube views and become one of dubstep’s enduring and pioneering anthems.

Now Mt Eden take their next step in the rapidly evolving career, with their first official release, a seven track EP, ‘Walking On Air’, for Ultra Music, and a North American tour that includes live dates at EDC Vegas and EDC Chicago. ‘Walking On Air’ also sees them united with Grammy nominated conductor, cellist and all round orchestral genius Larry Gold, for a string arrangement of ‘Sierra Leone’.

Konec ‘Futures EP’ (+Kill City Preview ) Out 28th May on Firepower Records

Up next on Firepower, the label is turning to the other side of the Atlantic with a new four-track EP by 19 year-old producer Konec from Southampton, UK. Already sparking serious interest with his earlier productions such as ‘Immortal’ and ‘Forever’, the new ‘Futures EP’ is set to cast him firmly into the spotlight.

Opening the EP, the titular track’s panoramic soundscapes and winding melodies set the scene for proceedings, carried off into the night by a fierce drum & bass rhythm and warped bassline. Konec then teams up with singer Anna Yvette on ‘The Void’ for the first of two collaborations on the EP. Showcasing a different shade to his productions, the track’s deep subs and shimmering chords blend with Yvette’s yearning vocals on this emotive slow burner. Up next ‘Kill City’ is pure impact, blending the 808 swagger of trap with rolling 8-bit arpeggios and choice vocal shouts. To complete the EP, Konec teams up with friend and collaborator xKore on ‘Railgun’, a track as mercilessly ferocious as its title may suggest. Calling upon hardstyle for inspiration, it’s propulsive 4×4 skeleton drives a booming bassline and flailing synths built for destruction.

Showcasing a talent way beyond his years, ‘Futures’ is a bold statement from Konec. Bringing both depth and diversity to the four tracks on offer here, it is no wonder so much attention is starting to come his way.

Carvar & Clock – Miskatonik (Preview)

Intent on championing the freshest undiscovered talent, Firepower is proud to present the debut EP from US-based duo Carvar & Clock as their next release. Already receiving support from the likes of Noisia, Koan Sound and Reso, as well as airplay on Radio1, this duo is fast making waves, and when you hear the EP it will become clear why.

Title-track ‘Miskatonik’ has quickly placed Carvar & Clock, AKA Dominic Strandemo and Dustin Lenz, firmly in the spotlight. Blending the low-slung drum swagger of hip hop with a gnarled apocalyptic bassline and ominous atmospheres to match, its fresh approach has deservedly been winning praise from all corners of the scene. Second track ‘SYZYGY’ provides a worthy sparring partner on the EP, taking the same touchstones and rewiring them with its jarring drum line and distorted bass onslaught.

Returning to Firepower from the recent ‘Caffeine EP’, Must Die! adds his unique touch to ‘Miskatonik’, bringing a dramatic metal-edge to the track with chugging guitars and jackhammer drums while UK producer Joe Ford is also called in on remix duty, bringing his crisp, techy flavor to the original with watertight drums, cut up breaks and swelling bass.

Online community ‘VATOGONZALEZ.COM’ launches second edition of ‘Army of Bastards’ mixtape

In 2012, online community VATOGONZALEZ.COM made headlines when they unleashed the first ‘user-generated’ mixtape, ‘Army of Bastards’. The mixtape introduced you to talents like Martin Garrix and Olivier Heldens, amongst others, who since the release of the mixtape have put out records on labels such as Musical Freedom, Spinnin’, and DOORN. The 6000+ active members community, which also counts renowned DJ’s like Hardwell, Nicky Romero and Quintino amongst its members, now takes the stage with the second edition of the ‘Army of Bastards’ mixtape series, which will be released Wednesday April 24 at 4pm (CET) as free download atVATOGONZALEZ.COM and will once again, consist strictly of productions by the members of the online community. Vato Gonzalez, also known as the ‘Dirty House Bastard’, artist/producer of UK Top 10 hit ‘Badman Riddim’ and UK Top 20 hit ‘Not a Saint’, and moderator of the community, selected the freshest cuts from over 150 submissions and put them together in the ‘Army of Bastards 2’ mixtape.

Vato Gonzalez about the new mixtape: “The Army of Bastards is movement that goes beyond the support I’d like to give to the next generation of artists. It’s truly an army of people who are as passionate about music as I am. As a collective we look out for our own,  not only when it comes to producing, but also in matters of music theft or the exploitation of new talent by the profiteering gluttons of this industry. We do not take such matters lightly. Any artist can tell you how hard it is to come up in this business when you are on your own, that is why we’ve joined forces and found strength in numbers. It’s easy to mess with one bastard, but not with a whole army of us. Anybody who shares our passion for producing EDM is most welcome amidst us, regardless if they are headlining on major festivals or producing in a basement. I’m very proud at The Army of Bastards as a collective, not only because they are an incredibly talented bunch but also because they truly stand up for each other.”

To support the launch of the mixtape, Vato Gonzalez produced the opening track ‘Strength in Numbers’, which serves as the mixtape’s anthem and will be released shortly. Vato Gonzalez: “With this mixtape series, I try to encourage young producers (of any genre) that there’s a lot you can do yourself without the help/support of the industry, from production to distribution. Don’t get discouraged, you’re not alone in your struggle to find your way to the top. Look around you and assemble! Therefore, ‘Strength in Numbers’ has become the anthem of this mixtape.”
