BEACH‘s new full-length album, In Us We Trust is an indie-electro rock collaboration between Karen Mould–the artist formerly known as Bitch–and Billie Jo (Alligator). Fused together by electric violin & chaotic energy, the new LP represents such an important shift in sonic landscape that she was moved to name the project something that was a total departure from her former self: from Bitch to BEACH. During the making of the album, the artist left her NYC home of 15 years and went to California.   Karen describes BEACH as “a place where everything shifts”–leaving behind her old persona allowed her to write from a more expansive, playful and wild way. With no limits, like the BEACH. Sonically, In Us We Trust breathes the energy of the city; the simultaneous hope and despair, the bitter edge, humor and power of human gathering.

Album cut “Ibuprofen” is an anthemic break-up song featuring a biting rap chorus and distorted vocal layers.

Having learned classical violin at the age of 4, Karen studied fiddling with Andrew Bird and expanded her musical experimentation horizons. She released her first solo recordMake This/Break This with legendary label Kill Rock Stars, and will release In Us We Trust produced by Roger Paul Mason July 16 on her own Short Story Records.

Previously known for her bands Bitch and Animal & Bitch and the Exciting Conclusion, Karen is also known for appearing as her former persona, Bitch, in the John Cameron Mitchell film Shortbus.

The Herbaliser vs. LPZ/Lopez!(Free Downloads)

Having made a triumphant return late last year with their critically acclaimed album ‘There Were Seven’, The Herbaliser are looking forward to a busy summer doing what they do best, delivering the best live funk, soul, hip-hop, breaks and beats show around.

The South American production team have delivered two very different remixes, the first of ‘Crimes & Misdemeanours’ under their Lopez tag, keeps the hip-hop tempo, adding just a touch of electro grit and bass weight to proceedings.

Then as LPZ they turn ‘The Lost Boy’ into a solid house number, showing off the skills that made their 1983 EP, DJ Mag’s ‘Disco Single of the Month’ and won them supporters from DJs around the world.

Having recently remixed LOGO (for Kitsune) and Compuphonic (for Get Physical) and dropped an acclaimed 12″ on Loungin’, LPZ return to Body Work this summer, with their new EP that is already getting played by the likes of Maya Jane Coles.

Online community ‘VATOGONZALEZ.COM’ launches second edition of ‘Army of Bastards’ mixtape

In 2012, online community VATOGONZALEZ.COM made headlines when they unleashed the first ‘user-generated’ mixtape, ‘Army of Bastards’. The mixtape introduced you to talents like Martin Garrix and Olivier Heldens, amongst others, who since the release of the mixtape have put out records on labels such as Musical Freedom, Spinnin’, and DOORN. The 6000+ active members community, which also counts renowned DJ’s like Hardwell, Nicky Romero and Quintino amongst its members, now takes the stage with the second edition of the ‘Army of Bastards’ mixtape series, which will be released Wednesday April 24 at 4pm (CET) as free download atVATOGONZALEZ.COM and will once again, consist strictly of productions by the members of the online community. Vato Gonzalez, also known as the ‘Dirty House Bastard’, artist/producer of UK Top 10 hit ‘Badman Riddim’ and UK Top 20 hit ‘Not a Saint’, and moderator of the community, selected the freshest cuts from over 150 submissions and put them together in the ‘Army of Bastards 2’ mixtape.

Vato Gonzalez about the new mixtape: “The Army of Bastards is movement that goes beyond the support I’d like to give to the next generation of artists. To support the launch of the mixtape, Vato Gonzalez produced the opening track ‘Strength in Numbers’, which serves as the mixtape’s anthem and will be released shortly. Vato Gonzalez: “With this mixtape series, I try to encourage young producers (of any genre) that there’s a lot you can do yourself without the help/support of the industry, from production to distribution. New Album The Sky Is Calling Out June 21st

 

Canadian-born, NYC-based songstress Kim Boekbinder performs under the moniker The Impossible Girl, crafting lush, genre-defying songs that fuse elements of electronic and acoustic music.  A performer, composer, and visual artist, Boekbinder made headlines in 2010 when she successfully funded her debut LP via Kickstarter and went on to pre-sell her US tour using the fundraising platform. Having built a loyal and enthusiastic following over the past few years, The Impossible Girl is back with her second fan-funded solo album, The Sky Is Calling, a celebration of humans in space. Produced by Joel Hamilton (The Black Keys, Tom Waits, Pretty Lights), the cosmic album will be released on June 21^st, and is now available for pre-order here.

The Sky Is Calling launches listeners into the stratosphere with captivating pop songs that are packed with scientific themes and otherworldly sounds. Boekbinder utilizes instruments ranging from synthesizers and drum pads to hammer dulcimer and mbira to bring her audience on an epic journey through time and space. Album track “Fix You Good” has all the elements of a dance floor banger, with buzzing synths, an impossibly catchy melody, and a beat that begs you to move. Title track “The Sky is Calling” showcases Boekbinder’s sweet but commanding vocals above dense layers of instrumentation and reverberating vocal harmonies. “Hand To Mouth” is a shimmering slower cut with a melancholic tone that captures the cold, dark loneliness of outer space, while “Alien” does its title justice with a haunting, otherworldly quality that stays with you long after the song ends.
