Mumford & Sons are pleased to announce the details of the 2013 series of Gentlemen of the Road Stopovers in the UK, US, and Canada this summer.

Each Stopover combines the intimacy of a community celebration with the excitement of a world-class music festival. This year the Stopovers are expanding to a Friday night concert followed by an all-day Saturday event. Mumford & Sons will headline the Saturday show, alongside an eclectic and energetic roster of artists curated by the band themselves. A series of smaller events involving local businesses, venues, and, most importantly, local people will happen in and around the town.

About this year’s upcoming Stopover tour, Mumford & Sons said: “The Gentlemen of the Road Stopovers are all about live music. We get to put them on in towns not normally frequented by touring bands in busses or splitter vans. We deliberately look for towns that have something unique, or some vibe of which they are proud, explore them and enjoy what they have to offer.”

Like last year, the outdoor events will take place in carefully selected and unique locations across the United States and Canada following a stop in the UK, and will feature a host of internationally acclaimed acts including Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, The Alabama Shakes, fun., The Vaccines, and many more to be announced. This year’s host towns include Simcoe, Ontario, Troy, OH; Guthrie, OK; and St. Augustine, FL. In 2012, the band curated seven total GOTR Stopovers: four in the United States, two in the UK, and one in Australia.

Tickets to the Stopovers go on sale at 11 am local time on February 8th. The tickets are $109, and will have no additional service fees or hidden charges. Each ticket will include a beautifully-designed, commemorative Gentlemen of the Road Stopover Passport. Campsites are incorporated into each Stopover site, and camping has become an essential part of the Stopover experience and is strongly encouraged. Three-night camping passes begin at $40 per person and can be purchased along with tickets at gentlemenoftheroad.com. For full details, see below.

Jason Bajada – The Sound Your Life Makes

Posted in News with tags , , , , on May 30, 2012 by E.N.

JASON BAJADA “THE SOUND YOUR LIFE MAKES”
Another Look at the Montreal Protests

Montreal singer-songwriter and MapleMusic Recordings artist, Jason Bajada has released a new video for “The Sound Your Life Makes,” the title track from his latest album. Bajada credits the city’s inhabitants with inspiring his songwriting and this video is a further representation of what the album is all about. It shows a positive and inspiring angle to Montreal’s ongoing student protests.

Bajada states: “Never have I seen Montreal so beautifully together. People, young and old, march and protest the recent student tuition hike & Bill 78 peacefully with their pots & pans every night at 8 p.m. Smiles are contagious and the city vibrates to the clanking as multiple neighbourhoods gather in the streets, uniting in one giant celebration. This is the sound Montreal makes!”

“Jamais je n’ai vu Montréal aussi belle. Tous les soirs à 20h, les jeunes et moins jeunes marchent et manifestent pacifiquement leur désaccord face à la hausse des frais de scolarité et la loi 78 avec leurs casseroles en main. Les sourires sont contagieux et la ville vibre au rythme du tintamarre, alors que de nombreux quartiers se réunissent dans la rue, s’unissant en une immense célébration. Voilà le son que fait Montréal!”

Jesca Hoop Announces Release of

The House That Jack Built on June 26th on Bella Union

and Upcoming Tour in Support of The Punch Brothers

Having just this week embarked on her tour in support of The Punch Brothers, Jesca Hoop announces her forthcoming album The House That Jack Built out on Bella Union on June 26th 2012.

The House That Jack Built deftly showcases Jesca Hoop’s unflinching tendency to pull focus from widescreen to close-up. Part siren song, part grim warning, it achieves a perspective-warping balance between the haunting intimacy of Hoop’s delivery and an unconfined air of horizon-scanning grandeur from the outset – tempestuous, moodily melodic opener ‘Born To’ shares this striking duality with later highlights ‘When I’m Asleep’, ‘Peacemaker’ and ‘Deeper Devastation’.

It arrives with more than a few splashes on its hands. Life and death; light and dark; sex and war; head and heart: The House That Jack Built offers up as much in celebration of the macabre as it does in mistrust of the familiar, with a twist of humor. It’s steeped in an allusion to biology, nature and humanity, but drops precious few clues as to whether its next rush of imagery is set to beguile or repel.

The follow up to 2010’s universally critically acclaimed Hunting My Dress, the new recording is a co-production between Hoop and three producers – “ a drop of blood in the can from each of us rendered a more radical sound” says Hoop – and this visceral album will open a whole new world of listeners to Jesca’s music.

Returning to Tony Berg’s Zeitgeist Studio in Los Angeles, where she recorded Hunting My Dress, Jesca enlisted old friends Shawn Everett, Blake Mills and Tony Berg himself as her co-producers. Says Hoop, “What a combination of minds, these three men & me. It was a real balancing act with tensions pulling toward one or the other. Striking that balance was the ticket to some of the most elevated moments in my musical collaborations to date.”

Admitting that writing the record was an often an insular, isolating experience – “I spent days and days without leaving the house and having zero contact with others” Hoop found herself exploring topics as diverse as Greek tragedies (Peacemaker), street artist Banksy (Ode To Banksy) and her often turbulent relationship with her father (DNR and the album’s title track).

Born To – the first single from the album – asks a question we’ve all asked ourselves “how is it that I was born into the circumstances I was born into. How is it some of us are born into famine and others into unimaginable wealth”. In Hospital (Win Your Love) she tackles “a human quality that causes us to crave injury” recalling childhood memories and on Deeper Devastation – her favorite song on the record – a fear of infidelity, this song Hoop says “is about accepting nature and learning to trust”.

Elsewhere, Pack Animal and Dig This Record find Hoop spinning very different threads to equally hypnotic effect. Throughout Hoop’s stone-turning observations remain mired in the equal beauty and violence of nature, hers is a nature red in tooth and claw.

Since self-releasing Hunting My Dress, Jesca Hoop has continued her knack for collecting fans in high places. Having been endorsed by Elbow’s Guy Garvey – she presented his BBC Radio’s 6 music show on March 25th – she’s joined Eels on their US and European tour in 2011 and was invited by Peter Gabriel to sing backing vocals for his David Letterman and Jools Holland TV performances, and support and duet with him on his South American tour last year. With the release of The House That Jack Built, Jesca is set to pick up a host of new fans, high profile or not.

Michael Kiwanuka Announces July 31 Release of Debut Album “Home Again”

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on March 6, 2012 by E.N.

Michael Kiwanuka Announces Release of Debut Album Home Again
Out on July 31 on Cherrytree/Interscope Records

British artist Michael Kiwanuka is pleased to announce July 31 as the US release date for his debut album Home Again. The album will be released through Cherrytree/Interscope Records. Home Again follows Michael’s 2011 EPs ‘Tell Me A Tale’ and ‘I’m Getting Ready’, released on Ben Lovett’s (Mumford and Sons) Communion Records. The album was produced by Paul Butler from The Bees in his home studio on the Isle of Wight. The partnership takes Michael’s effortless melodies, observant lyrics and smooth voice and builds them into timeless and rootsy folk-inflected modern soul recordings. The majority of the instruments played on the record are by Michael and Paul, with the pair inviting other musicians from the island to contribute as well.

Born and raised in North London by Ugandan immigrants, Michael’s ’60s soul and introspective lyrics are drawing comparisons to Otis Redding, Bill Withers and Marvin Gaye. He topped the BBC Sounds of 2012 list, joining the ranks of previous winners including Adele, Corinne Bailey Rae, 50 Cent, Ellie Goulding, and others.

You can watch the music video for “I’m Getting Ready,” one of Home Again’s tracks:

Last December, Michael sold out headlining shows in both Los Angeles and New York City following a run of supporting dates with Adele in the UK and Europe. Time Out NY called his two New York shows the best events in entertainment that week, and The LA Times deemed Michael “underrated,” noting: “What grabs you first is that voice, a delicately sandpapered, yearning instrument that recalls Bill Withers over a shuffling, breezy funk rhythm. Once the Afrobeat horns and “What’s Going On?”-era strings come in, you’re hooked and ready to hear more.” Esquire proclaimed, “This time next year, you’re going to be tired of people telling you about Michael Kiwanuka.”

Jellyfish Brigade Debut Album Out Now, by Donation

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , , , on July 7, 2011 by E.N.

Jellyfish Brigade debut album, Gills And A Helmet OUT NOW
Jellyfish Brigade’s debut EP Gills And A Helmet is available at www.jellyfishbrigade.com as a “name your price” download. The album is poised to give listeners a taste of the duo’s inventive, heart-felt love songs that blur the lines between hip-hop, folk, electronica, and R&B.
This six-track EP is the result of a collaboration that started in the fall of 2009, unknown to ½ of the duo. As a recent transplant to Portland, OR, Jeffrey Acciaioli found a place to lay his head in the home of a talented MC, Lucas Dix. While Jeffrey spent his days at work, Lucas found unfinished instrumental compositions on Jeffrey’s computer and began to reinvent them by adding his lyrical finesse. Jeffrey’s music inspired Lucas to stray from preconceived styles of hip-hop and instead focus on expanding his vocal abilities and songwriting styles. Jeffrey eventually realized that Lucas was breathing new life into compositions that had long been ignored, and thus, Jellyfish Brigade was born.
As the project continues to unfold, Jellyfish Brigade expose a mythology of love, adventure, creation, sorrow and triumph. They reveal an honest reflection of the perfections and struggles encountered daily. Jeffrey Acciaioli’s emotive instrumentals swirl around Lucas Dix’s lyrical delivery, weaving their narratives into a soundtrack for self-discovery and preserving the time-honored art of storytelling.
This is a tale of lost and found and lost and so on. This is a legend about creation, friendships and letting go… Discovering the delicate beauty in everyday mistakes, escaping the drive of guilt, and rattling your weaknesses by fulfilling your passions. This is an album that touches the souls of the baton twirlers, the adventurers, the teachers, the students, the conjurers of brilliance, the blissfully clueless, the romantics, the silent listeners, the revolutionaries, and the shine chasers.

Volkova Sisters is based on the songwriter duo, Daniel Sandor and Dalma Berger. They began this project 2 years ago based on the passion and respect of the dark wave sounds from the 80′s. Think of the shimmering distortions of My Bloody Valentine combined with dreamy landscapes of Cocteau Twins. The name was dedicated to William Gibson, the father of cyberpunk, Volkova sisters are one of the main characters from his book Pattern Recognition. Their first LP, Venus Robot will be released by EMI in certain European territories at the beginning of may.

Midlake ‘Late Night Tales’

Midlake ‘Late Night Tales’ (Late Night Tales)
[Mix Album - Indie/Folk/Rock]

Journeying across the plains of North America, the wilds of the British Isles and fleeting visits to Holland and Iceland, Midlake’s Late Night Tales is a voyage through all that mesmerises and enchants. Incorporating tracks from the likes of deeply seductive vocalist Scott Walker to Bjork (a frequent among the Late Night Tales compilations) Midlake’s instalment certainly does not disappoint.
