Eik – Undetected

Eik are Per Kåre Limmesand (keyboards and effects) and Kristoffer Carlsen (drums). Both live and on their album, the duo are joined by guest vocalists who deliver their melodic and catchy songs, inspired by artists such as Goldfrapp, Röyksopp, Groove Armada, Jamie Woon, Jean Michel Jarre and William Orbit.

‘Undetected’ was produced by the Norwegian electronica guru Knut Sævik, who has reached international acclaim with his own electronica project ‘Mungolian Jet Set’. Sævik has also worked with renowned artists such as Lindstrøm, Mari Boine and Nils Petter Molvær.

Fra Nefarious – Crazy Weather

Everything about Fra Nefarious screams the 80′s, from his candy-coated keyboards, to his vocals ‘ala’ Bowie and his funky guitar riffs, but Francisco Anthony Del is from present times. Don’t call him new wave revivalist or nu-rave pioneer, he is a sign that is still okay to write dance-rock jams if you make them sound effortless and, well fun. Yes, F-U-N. ‘Crazy Weather‘ is the kind of album you can’t say no to. Each track is essentially a tractor beam, gradually pulling the listener in with a blinding array of daydream melodies and neon-hued hooks. The potential-maximizing production of Fra Nefarious, who wrote every song on the album and performed every instrument on the recording process, are a living proof that this rising star is here to stay. A trilogy of spectacular lead-off singles (“Crazy Weather,” “Leaving on a Meteor,” “Space”) certainly don’t hurt matters, either. Definitely recommended for night owls and anyone who thinks dance music should only exist in super clubs and Ibiza. So Sound Recordings. (By Sean Levisman)

The first thing that’ll strike you about Mr. Nefarious is his expressive singing voice, heavily reminiscent of early David Bowie and Bryan Ferry. And many of the tunes on his new Crazy Weather long player also hark back to those artists’ compositions from the early ’70s — “Leaving on a Meteor” and “Mountain” are pure Ziggy Stardust-era Bowie with a 21st century sheen.

But then listen to numbers like “Space” or “Supernova Star” and you’ll be transported from melancholic glam rock to the uptempo exuberance of Chic-style disco-funk. And the time machine doesn’t stop there, it keeps on going right through the ’80s, especially on the Cure-like cut “Vapor.”

Make no mistake, though, none of its retro references detract from the originality and quality of Fra Nefarious‘s songwriting and gift for catchy vocal hooks.
