Free download of Bulgarian songstress Ruth Koleva’s ‘What Am I Suppose To’

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , , , on December 19, 2013 by E.N.

Ruth Koleva - What Am I Suppose ToHaving already taken her native country by storm, 2014 is the year that this young artist becomes renowned on an international scale. Born into a volatile world of corruption and hardship in post-Communist Eastern Europe, Ruth found salvation in the classics (Marvin Gaye, Ella Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole) and quickly developed into a rounded musician and became an ambassador for the best of Bulgaria – winning GRAZIA’s Woman of the Year.

Koleva’s ability to straddle multiple genres and tempos has made her into a highly versatile artist, which has seen her draw comparisons her contemporary, Jessie Ware. As a vocalist, her tone is imbued with warmth, particularly when speaking on matters of love and sensuality. Inspired by such era-defining artists as Erykah Badu and Jill Scott, Ruth manages to both tip her hat to the classics which have informed her sound, while still saying something new and pushing boundaries.

The album is preceded by the release of lead single ‘Turn This Around‘ on 3rd February. With its smooth jazz rhythm, rolling synth melodies and a truly mesmerising vocal performance from the Bulgarian singer, ‘Turn This Around’ makes the perfect showcase for Ruth’s confident songwriting talent and her ability to break hearts, as the track builds to a poignant final breakdown.

haim days are goneBreakout band HAIM will release their highly anticipated debut album, Days Are Gone, on September 30 via Columbia Records. , available today for pre-order on iTunes (iTunes.com/HAIM). Recorded mostly in HAIM’s native Los Angeles, the album sees sisters Este, Danielle and Alana Haim working alongside acclaimed producers Ariel Rechtshaid (Usher, Vampire Weekend) and James Ford (Florence and the Machine, Arctic Monkeys). Days Are Gone will feature crowd favorites “Falling,” “Forever,” and “Don’t Save Me” as well as brand new tracks that have yet to air live, including title track “Days Are Gone,” which was co-written with Kid Harpoon and Jessie Ware (see below for full track listing).

“The Wire,” the first single from Days Are Gone, is available now on iTunes. Fans who pre-order the album on iTunes will instantly receive a download of the track “The Wire” (iTunes.com/HAIM). Already a live favorite, Fader observes, “the track’s final studio incarnation wisely emphasizes what HAIM does so well live, with ‘We Will Rock You’-styled drums, shades of guitar theatrics and a triumphant, everybody-together-now vocal medley.” MTV Buzzworthy has proclaimed the infectious track a “monster of a song: huge, hooky and ready to wreck major cities and/or pop charts,” and Pitchfork concludes that HAIM are “making some of the best power-pop out there right now.” A music video for “The Wire” will be released shortly.
