Rob Clarke releases his second EP with Boston label Headtunes, this time showing a deeper, tech-tinged side to his sound.  Two original tracks on the ‘Gravity EP’ are remixed by Mike Jules (Greenhouse, Kinjo, Guesthouse) – one an old school house rendition of ‘Gravity’ and the other a leftfield/down-tempo version of ‘The Haunting’. UK dance music stalwart DeepShizzol rounds off the EP with a remix that brings a more driving dancefloor focus and added vocal to the title track.

Rob Clarke’s recent 4 track ‘Depth Charge EP’ and remix of Dirtyworx, both on Headtunes, received praise from DJs including Laurent Garnier, Q-Burns Abstract Message, Luke Solomon, Nacho Marco and Nick Holder.  Rob is also known for hosting the bi-weekly Serious Sounds Radio Show on popular net radio station/community Chicago House FM and can also be found spinning at Chicaboom events around the South of England.

Mike Jules originally hails from Australia but now resides in London.  He has had a variety or releases and remixes on labels such as Greenhouse, Kinjo, Dustpan and Guesthouse, with his quirky beats and funk-flavoured productions finding favour with the likes of Mark Farina, DJ Sneak, Joshua Heath, Justin Harris and Da Sunlounge. He also produces a deeper/tech style under the Julson moniker.

Spencer T, alias DeepShizzol, was always going to be involved in music – his father was a welder who made cow bells for 70’s African funk band Osibisa and the sound of beating drums was never far away.  Over the past 20 years he has DJ’d with some of dance music’s premier names including Carl Cox, Kevin Saunderson and Fabio & Grooverider.  A former record store owner and respected name along the UK’s south coast, Spencer has more recently turned to promoting events at clubs including Ministry of Sound and a return to music production has yielded appearances on Cross Section and Save You Records.

Half of Freaks (with Luke Solomon) Justin Harris returns to Baker Street Recordings for his second EP.  The first came in 2007 and Harris has also remixed Matt Prehn and Jacob in the interim period.  Demarkus Lewis also makes a return to the Leeds label having remixed Bang Bang back in 2009.

Artist: Justin Harris
Title: Music’s My Religion EP
Label: Baker Street Recordings (UK)
Cat No: BSD028
Style: House
Release Date: 26th September 2011
The Tracks
1: Music’s My Religion
2: Music’s My Religion (Deez Preach 2 Teach Mix) [Demarkus Lewis]
3: People 2011

It’s deep, driving peak-time underground house music in the trademark Baker Street style, with the odd recognisable vocal. May evoke thoughts of big warehouse spaces complete with yellow and black striped pillars.  Demarkus Lewis adds some squelch and ups the preacher factor.

Justin Harris has been active as a DJ business since 1987 and has been producing since 1994 in collaboration with Luke Solomon and under the names Robotic Movement, Free soul (with Diesel) and Oliloqui for labels like Classic, Phono, 20/20 Vision, and SSR. Harris is probably best known as half of the duo Freaks (again a collaboration with Luke Solomon) and their acclaimed Music For Freaks label – both for diehard deephouse fans as for adventurous electronic music lovers.

In a little over a decade Demarkus Lewis has released over 100 singles and remixes, staying true to his roots in the underground sound whether it be deep soulful house or the heaviest of techno/tech-house outings. Known for his ability to go deep while maintaining the energy to keep the dance floors moving, he has proven to be diverse artist, with releases for Bluem, Aesoteric, Flat & Round, Black Vinyl, Slip ‘n’ Slide and several others alongside his own Grin imprint.

Since it’s launch in 2006 Baker Street has grown into one of the UK’s leading deep and tech house labels appearing consistently in the sets of DJs like Laurent Garnier, Inland Knights, Dirt Crew and Luke McKeehan and on the pages of the dance music press. The label has previously released EPs featuring music by Jay Tripwire, Moodymanc, Sei A, Matt Prehn, Murray Richardson and many more.

Crosstown Rebels presents Rebel Rave out November 8th

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on September 16, 2010 by E.N.

Label: Crosstown Rebels
Cat no: CRMCD011
Web:crosstownrebels
Released: Monday November 8th, 2010

Crosstown Rebels celebrate seven years at the helm of some of the most cutting edge dance music on the planet with a compilation of their finest moments and a taste of what is yet to come.

Spanning three discs, thirty artists and three hours of inspirational music, Rebel Rave celebrates the current position of Crosstown Rebels as a global leader in electronic music output. Following in the footsteps of landmark albums including the ‘Rebel Futurism’ and ‘Get Lost’ compilation series, they collate some of the finest releases from the likes of Jamie Jones, Seth Troxler, and Soul Clap.

Focusing on their most recent achievements and new artists including Deniz Kurtel, Maceo Plex, and Glimpse, Rebel Rave also touches on some key classic releases from Andre Kraml, Minilogue, and Jennifer Cardini, giving a representation of the collective vision of this unique global family. Uncovering exclusive material from Nicolas Jaar (who remixes future Rebel artist, Maceo Plex), one half of Wolf+Lamb Gadi Mizrahi (remixing the anthem that broke Seth Troxler ‘Love Never Sleeps’) and a special Rebel Rave edit of Rebels’ anthemic Laurent Garnier release.

Disc one and two are collections of musical diversity, touching on early dubstep (ShackletonNext To Nothing’), pure retro sounding house from an original house master (Dyed Soundorom VS Aaron CarlNaked’), to space disco (Brennan Green’s take on Luke Solomon’sDemons’), with many exclusive collaborations (The Royal We AKA Seth Troxler, Ryan Crosson & Hector ‘Party Guilt’) and award winning music (MinilogueHitchhiker’s Choice’ which was awarded a CAD for the video).

Disc three is a special collation of Crosstown’s material by Rebel recruit, Clive Henry, who overlaps and recreates his selection of tracks to deliver them in a whole new light. Henry is a long term resident at Ibiza’s infamous DC10 and was part of the long-standing Peace Division outfit, who also released on the label. His 20 years of experience have awarded him a unique insight into the current underground musical horizon and as one of the oldest and closest friends of Crosstown Rebels, he gives a dynamic perspective on its history.

Rebel Rave (www.rebelrave.tv) was spawned by a series of forward-thinking films, documenting the Rebel crew’s antics and delving into their musical souls. Starting in 2008, Rebel Rave has followed the Crosstown Rebels family from London to Paris, Manchester to Berlin, New York to Detroit via Miami and San Francisco, each episode giving an honest snapshot of inside the Rebels quirky world. This year the Rebel Rave tour took the family of artists across America and Europe.

Crosstown Rebels was formed in 2003 by former Head of A&R for London based label, City Rockers, Damian Lazarus, who was responsible for signing and releasing classics like Felix Da Housecat’s ‘Silver Screen’ and Tiga’s ‘Sunglasses’. Inspired by the new energy in international club culture and keen for some of the new and exciting electronic artists to get the attention they deserve, Lazarus formed his own label and has been delivering fresh concepts and ideas into the underground scene ever since. From dazzling events across all corners the globe including the Stink series at T Bar and DC10, room takeovers at Fabric in London and Goa in Madrid, the Rebels sound is admired and devoured from Montreal to Peru, Japan to Australia and all over Europe their fans await their next move.
