No stranger to the New York underground scene, No Surrender is gearing up to release their intricate sophomore effort Medicine Babies (June 16th, 2011, ZerOKilled Music). Blending hip-hop, electro, soul, synth-pop, and indie-rock, No Surrender’s spanning sound is genre-bending . Produced by former Tricky muse singer Costanza Francavilla and European production team Radioclit (Santigold, M.I.A The Very Best), Medicine Babies will be featuring several guests including TV On The Radio’s Tunde Adebimpe.
No Surrender’s members, Seraphim, Steeples, and Gnomad, banded together during the 90s, co-hosting the famous Revenge of The Muse parties at venues such as Brownies, CBGB’s Gallery, and Baby Jupiter, before Guiliani’s New York took its stronghold. Sharing the stage with Mike Ladd, Antipop Consortium, Stiffed (Santigold’s former band), and Apollo Heights, they proved to be a New York staple.
After self-releasing their critically lauded debut, White Power Black Magic, No Surrender was put on hold- due to good news. Eddie Steeples became a permanent cast member on NBC’s My Name Is Earl, playing Darnell/Crabman. Shelving unfinished tracks they began working on, Seraphim participated in different projects (including guesting on tracks for Evil Nine and Infesticons) until Steeples finished filming. Picking up right where they left off, but adding years of experience and influences, No Surrender took on producer Costanza Francavilla to finish Medicine Babies in the ZerOKilled studio in Brooklyn.
Check out the Pitchfork premiere of “Silver Hall”,which features Tunde Adembipe of TV on the Radio, and production by Radioclit. The premiere also includes the fantastic video for “Godda Get It”. Medicine Babies’ first single, “Godda Get It” premiered last year, and also features production by Radioclit. The track, which RCRD LBL called “a groping, grimy jam sticky with parking-lot feedback, Rick James-esque yelps, and fuzzy synths,”.

HUORATRON RELEASES OFFICIAL M.I.A. REMIX
DOWNLOAD “INTERNET CONNECTION” (HUORATRON REMIX) AT URB.COM or HERE (Direct via Pitchfork)
Finnish producer and executioner Huoratron (pronounced whore-a-tron) is pleased to release his official remix of M.I.A.’s “Internet Connection.” You can grab the track for free at URB.com. Keep your eyes peeled for the much-anticipated full-length release, set to drop this summer on Last Gang Records.
Unless you spent 2010 living in a cave, you’ve probably taken a peek at Huoratron’s “Corporate Occult” short film, which has had over half a million views since its release. Clocking in at over five minutes and directed by Cédric Blaisbois, the film may not be suitable for most viewers. Urgent and impulsive like Huoratron’s soundscapes, the short exposes the demonized side flesh, sex and excess. You can check out the video here.
Forged from the flames of darkness, Huoratron is the solo project of Finland’s Aku Raski, who began using two Game Boy consoles to produce experimental and dark electro. Since then, he’s risen from the digital underground and updated his gear while maintaining the pure black sound and raw aesthetics. As a founding member of New Judas Records, Huoratron has found its place among the movement in pulsating electronic dance music taking the stage on an international level.

Gilles Peterson is a truly revered international club and radio DJ and one of music’s foremost tastemakers (possibly the most well known in the whole world) in a world dominated by style over substance.

The focus of this compilation is to present to its audience not just a DJ’s favorite selection or songs that stood the test of time but it represents a great collection of songs and grooves premiered on Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide show before any other station in the world. It’s about music that Gilles has helped popularize across the world on his show which is syndicated in 15 countries. It’s a musical journey for DJ’s and radio listeners across the world.
In addition to his Worldwide radio show, Gilles is also the head of Talking Loud Records where he introduced the world to Jamiroquai, Roni Size, 4 Hero, Courtney Pine, Brand New Heavies, Galliano and many more. He was a key founding member of the late 80’s Acid Jazz boom and recently set-up a new record label, Brownswood Recordings, to sign and develop exciting new talent as well as putting on his Worldwide Awards every year in London and the Worldwide festival every summer in the south of France.
