Dawn Golden – Still Life

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , , on June 5, 2014 by E.N.

Dawn Golden - Still LifeDawn Golden, a solo electronic production and songwriting project helmed by Dexter Tortoriello of Houses, officially started in late 2010 when a series of Bandcamp demos caught Diplo’s attention with their stark emotion and forward-‐thinking production.

Post-‐Blow, the Los Angeles-‐based Tortoriello started recording albums for both Dawn Golden and Houses, releasing Houses’ A Quiet Darkness in May 2013. During this period, he continued working on the songs for what would become Dawn Golden’s debut LP. Entitled Still Life, the album was recorded over the last three years at the Mad Decent studios in Los Angeles.

Led by its first single “All I Want,” Still Life gains its stark emotional perspective through some of the most unique production you’re likely to hear this year. There’s heavy exploration of sonic texture, and Tortoriello uses frozen cut-‐ups and creative vocal editing to flip a traditionally-‐futuristic sound into something that oozes feeling.

Track List:

1. Discoloration
2. All I Want
3. Sleight Orchestra
4. I Won’t Bend
5. Swing
6. The Beekeeper
7. Still Life
8. Chevrotain
9. Last Train
10. Brief Encounter

About

Slick Shoota is a producer from Trondheim, Norway who has developed his own unique musical style—a combination of juke, garage, booty bass, breaks, and old school jungle. He’s already been getting attention for his remix work, covering a diverse range of artists and labels: Fuzzy Logik (Safe & Sound), Dev79 (Slit Jockey), Heartbreak (Mad Decent), Mr. Mitch (Butterz), Joss Ryan (DVA Music), Falty DL (Planet Mu), and more.

His first EP for Loose Squares contains five tracks of forward-thinking, boundary-pushing juke hybrids—from booty-meets-grime party-smashers like “Eye Turn Red” and “Hit The Flow” (featuring up-and-comer5kin&bone5), to the soulful, garage-inspired “Love You You You” and “Beby”. We here at Loose Squares are really excited to present these new sounds. A must have for 2012!

ZEDS DEAD- Rumble In The Jungle/ Undah Yuh Skirt (preview)

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , , , , , on September 17, 2011 by E.N.

Zeds Dead’s new single “Rumble in the Jungle” is out on October 4, 2011, featuring b-side, “Undah Yuh Skirt” with Jamaican MC Mavado!

With only a few official releases under their belt, Toronto’s ZEDS DEAD (Hooks & DC) have risen to the top of a new generation of bass music through a relentless tour schedule and America’s newfound love for dubstep. “Rumble In The Jungle” is to say the least, a tropical monster. Starting with a playful tribal drum beat that percolates through the entire track, you are soon met by an intensifying wave of excitement that drops into a pool of beastly baselines and ripping synths. Like the best of their live sets, this track lands in some undefinable place between genres. Doesn’t matter what you call it, “Rumble” bangs.

Released by: MAD DECENT
Release/catalogue number: MAD-143

ZEDS DEAD marches across North America on
“The Graveyard Tour” + new EP on Mad Decent

Massive 65-date tour * large sized venues * fuelled by the underground

Allow us to introduce you to one of electronic music’s most promising new acts, Zeds Dead. The truth is, however, Toronto-based Zeds Dead (AKA DC and Hooks) needs no introduction to the legions of fans that have been on to the electronic/dubstep/progressive duo for the better part of two years. Through positive world of mouth, massive YouTube hits, support from top jocks and a never ending string of tour dates – to cities big and small – Zeds Dead has become one of the most exciting acts of 2011 and a true phenomenon.

Since its inception Zeds Dead has toured the United Kingdom twice and launched their first official North American Tour in Dec 2010, playing over 40 dates throughout Canada and the USA. They toured all around the world in 2011 and embarked on “The Rumble in the Jungle Tour” playing summer festivals in North America and the UK. Launched on September 2 and running though December 17, “The Graveyard Tour” is Zed’s Dead’s biggest tour to date.

Kissy Sellout and Skream were two of the first to take notice of Zeds Dead, featuring their remix of Blue Foundation’s “Eyes on Fire” on their radio shows, on BBC Radio 1 and Rinse FM, respectively. Soon after releasing their remix of “Eyes on Fire,” Zeds Dead was approached by Dragonette for whom they remixed their 2010 release, “Volcano”. Their original self-released “1975” was featured in GQ Magazine’s 2010 Video Shoot with Russian Supermodel Irina Shayk.

Zeds Dead’s productions can be heard in sets from artists like Diplo, Rusko, Skrillex, and Bassnectar with Kissy Sellout calling Zeds Dead “the future of genres…flipping genius.” In November 2010, Kissy Sellout’s label San City High released Zed’s Dead’s first official single and the title track, “Rudeboy”, reached #7 on the Beatport Dubstep Charts only 48 hours after its release. Their productions have garnered tens of millions of hits on youtube, and their remix of “Eyes on Fire” is the single most-viewed production on the UKF channel.

In addition to “The Graveyard Tour” Zeds Dead is preparing for two brand new releases – “Bass Mentality” (September 20, Basshead Records) and “Rumble In The Jungle EP” (October 4, Mad Decent).

“They’re becoming internationally known perpetrators of notoriously unconscionable dance-floor violence, dropping dirty wobble, hacking it up with hammer fists, hitting the filthiest frequencies, dragging the bpm down to a slo-mo grind, and then ratcheting it back up to brutal superspeed.” – Miami New Times
“The Zeds Dead boys are the kind of artists who are willing to explore all sorts of genres in bass music and do them all really well. Not to mention they are the best of dogs!”
- Skrillex
“Zeds Dead caught my attention with their bootlegs…they took a different approach to dubstep…with their new releases they keep taking it further”
- Diplo
“Zeds Dead is the future of genres…flipping genius”
