First Listen: Sebjak ‘Follow Me’ (Remixes) Out 10th December 2012 on EMI Music

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on November 28, 2012 by E.N.

Following the release of Sebjak’s definitive Summer anthem ‘Follow Me’, an impressive selection of talent has been collected on this diverse remix package.

“Follow Me” was Sebjak’s first release on Positiva Records. Following support for the original Mix from Andi Durrant (Capital FM, U.K.), among others, and charting on the Music Week Cool Cuts and the DMC Buzz Chart, this Summer saw the release of the new vocal version. “Follow Me”’s epic irresistible vocals, massive hooks, delicate keys and emotive chord play made it a definitive Summer anthem. Now ‘Follow Me’ is getting the remix treatment from a diverse lineup of talent, with Gregori Klosman, DEVolution, Mike Hawkins and Jerry Rekonius all putting their own spin on the original.

Having watched the rise of his fellow countrymen, Sebastian Jak set out to become the next success story in Sweden’s already impressive dance music history. By 2006, Sebjak as he was now known started to produce music of his own. Having pricked the ears of the likes of Steve Angello, Axwell and Sebastian Ingrosso with his fresh and energetic approach to production, Sebjak was asked to remix for the world-acclaimed Size Records with fellow producer AN21.

His stock rose immediately and Sebjak began to pull in the attention from the biggest DJs and producers in the world. Erick Morillo and his Subliminal label were next to release the young Swedish producer, unleashing his collaboration with Richard Grey, ‘Pump Up The Volume.’ David Guetta and Tiesto were just two of the single’s many supporters.

Remixes have also seen the 24 year old Swede add his deft touch to Laidback Luke, Arno Cost and Norman Doray’s hit, ‘Trilogy’ which was released on Luke’s own imprint Mixmash, in addition to Swiss Official vs. Kings Of Tomorrow ‘Changes’ which saw another release on Size Records. Sebjak was also responsible for a killer remix of Mogui’s ‘We Want Your Soul’ which went on to be bootlegged by Swedish House Mafia for their famous hit ‘Leave The World Behind,’ the track they decided to close their Masquerade Motel residency in Miami 2011 with.

Sebjak is a regular behind the decks in clubs around the globe. From England to France, USA, Germany, Israel, Swiss, Dominican Republic, Morocco, Serbia and Brazil, which has become his favourite place to tour, Sebjak has rocked them all. Standout gigs have included LIV in Miami, Subliminal Sessions at Arkadia and an incredible performance at Summerburst in Stockholm in front of 12,000 people. When not out on the road solo, he can spotted with any other top name from Steve Angello, Sebastian Ingrosso, Axwell, AN21 Max Vangeli, Bob Sinclar, Norman Doray, Arno Cost, Laidback Luke, Moguai, David Tort, Avicii, David Guetta, John Dalhbäck, Eric Prydz and beyond.

Germany’s Oliver Lieb and USA’s Jimmy Van M have come together as The Audible Suspects to launch “Collaborations”, a new creative platform for Bedrock in 2012.
This project is the culmination of a journey over many years, through Jimmy’s pursuit of Oliver’s music, resulting in their friendship and now this collaboration. Many years ago Jimmy was among the first people to bring Oliver to the USA to play and was the first to arrange a tour for him to perform live and now the time is right for The Audible Suspects to be born.
After my break from producing, I was slowly getting back to working again and one of the first steps was to care about my online presence, Facebook etc. I added Jimmy, making contact again and soon we talked about working together on some projects. and quickly had the idea of doing a compilation. Like my monthly podcasts, I wanted to gather together new, interesting music from well-known and more underground or undiscovered people and focus on the techy side of things, which actually is my main playground. So, our collaboration is based on grooves and interesting sounds, as well as melodies, that don’t just aim for big commercial success but more for some exciting trippy development of audible space.” – Oliver Lieb

Frankfurt based DJ & producer Oliver Lieb has been in the premier league of electronic producers since the early 90’s and always keeps surprising and amazing people with his extraordinary sounds and diversity of styles. He views music as an endless horizon of expressing himself and refuses to be pigeonholed in one specific genre, an attitude well suited to the Bedrock ethos. The mighty, soaring, “Parallax”, was a highlight on John Digweed’s “Structures Two” album, and the exceptional “Epsilon Eridani EP” (Bed99) followed last summer. So it is fitting that both an unreleased Reprise and Italian producer Davide Cali’s remix open and set the stage for this collaborative musical adventure.
From the outset the selected music emulates a night out at a club with a top quality underground soundtrack, digging deep and blending subtle sparseness with hypnotic drive, teasing and building anticipation and excitement with ease. Jimmy Van M exhibits his superb remix skills reworking “Origins” by German techno producer Ray Kajioka, which flows seamlessly into BPitch Control’s rising star Thomas Muller’s “One Hit One Night” and on into Get Physical’s Pele and Findling. Oliver and Jimmy continue to join the dots between the most exciting, talented, new producers and remixers as they feature the wildly creative Max Cooper, Andreas Mügge (in his D.Diggler guise), Daso Franke and the excitingly experimental Lanny May.
Flow is very important. I connected with Oliver on this right from the beginning when listening to his LSG ‘Vol. 2’ and LSG ‘Into Deep’ albums. Over the years we’ve become friends and I’ve always hoped for an opportunity to work together. So, The Audible Suspects project is very exciting for me. When getting the music together for this compilation we quickly realized where it was going and took the direction of strong yet still simple tracks. We focused considerably on the sound quality of each track and the final mix mastering which you can tell by turning it up loud!” – Jimmy Van M
Over the last decade and a half few individuals could claim the type behind-the-scenes influence on American dance culture as Jimmy Van M. His tireless efforts can be credited with having helped advance electronic dance music throughout the North America, opening avenues for artistic expression in dance-clubs that did not previously exist before him and his very unique efforts. When it comes to atmosphere, vibe and drive there are very few DJs that can stand alongside Jimmy Van M.
The mix builds in intensity with San Francisco duo SF/FM blurring the lines between the obscure and the straight forward, with their love of big room psychedelia, slipping effortlessly upwards with Traum’s Ryan Davis and Ireland’s Phil Kieran (who is later joined by Green Velvet for an encore performance). Sweden’s hugely talented techno DJ and producer Joel Mull shows off his star potential, as does the mysterious Digital Mess, before the unique sounds of Munich’s Tobias Felbermayr spiral into the mix finale of “Helios” by Oliver Lieb.
This is a mix that exhibits the best underground dancefloor attitude without sacrificing the electronic weirdness that sometimes gets lost in the pursuit of big-name tunes. There is a sense of musical maturity to the mix without it lacking in energetic charm. It’s a mix that is born out of desire to discover, excite and educate, and attitude that comes as the result of many years of waiting and searching for, that next inspirational track.
“Jimmy and Oliver have delivered a futuristic mix that locks you into a groove and won’t let go. This is cool electronic house meets spacious techno.” – John Digweed

Fran Von Vie – Forbidden Places(DAR026)(Preview)

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , , on October 12, 2011 by E.N.

Denis A’s DAR and DARDIGITAL labels are on a creative roll in 2011, having already unleashed a series of stunning tracks and making their mark around the globe with each new release. Following the landmark 25th release on DAR (the ‘Diamond Edition Remixes’ package featuring two stunning reworks of classic Denis A tracks by Bedrock’s legendary Nick Muir) comes another release from one of the label’s most exciting young producers, Fran Von Vie.
Those with an ear for the underground will already be well aware of Fran Von Vie’s stunning remixes of Tech D’s ‘Subway’ (DARDIGITAL004) and Taboo’s ‘Epic Dream’ (DARDIGITAL005), and know that he is a young producer who is tipped for great things. He is always looking for new sounds and structures and doesn’t believe too much in genres, just in making things from the heart, because music is supposed to be felt, not necessarily, to be understood. His magical reworking of ‘Sith’ (DAR024), stripping it back and giving it an uplifting intensity in the final third that lifts it to another level, is a perfect example. Now it is time for Fran Von Vie to shine with his debut single for DAR.
Title track, ‘Forbidden Places’, is an instantly enthralling opener filled with exciting sounds as its subtle hypnotic nature shifts gear with croaking acidic pulses and spooky melodic flourishes with swathes of stand-out-from-the-crowd originality. ‘Sold Feelings’ ups the energy levels with a very catchy whistling melody line as it piles on the pressure and builds effortlessly into a mountainous monster of a track. This is big stuff from a big star of the future.
At the age of 14, Fran Von Vie began to compose music with a 486 PC and he made a lot of beats for international rap artists. At 15 he bought his first Technics 1200s and just a few months later he was playing around his hometown and had his own radio program every Friday for 2 years. At 17, he moved to Barcelona and became a resident DJ in ‘Baraka’, he played at the legendary ‘Apolo’ and helped in the editing process of the ‘ElectronicArtFestival’ DVD.
Gradually he became involved and immersed in more elegant, strong and characteristic sounds of the heavenly dub and progressive rhythms and in the summer of 2010 he started to take a serious interest in producing professional electronic tracks for the dancefloor. He released his first EP ‘Shaman’ on a free net label, and from that first moment he received support from the underground international scene.
Since it was only in the summer of last year that Fran Von Vie started to take a serious interest in producing professional electronic tracks for the dancefloor, his progress shows he is yet another hot talent to watch out for in 2011 and beyond on DAR. On this sort of form, the prospects for this exciting, forward thinking, Russian label are very exciting one indeed!

Norman Doray to release his debut solo mixed compilation “Strictly Ibiza To Amsterdam”

Norman Doray to release his debut solo mixed compilation Strictly Ibiza To Amsterdam

Released October 10, 2011

Norman Doray’s summer has been one crammed full of top notch productions and storming gigs in the world’s best venues. Amongst regular trips to Ibiza to rock Ushuaia, Erick Morillo’s Subliminal Invasion and Masquerade Motel with Swedish House Mafia at Pacha, Norman also managed to co-produce the huge summer hit ‘Chase the Sun’ with David Tort, spending a huge 8 weeks in Beatport’s Top 10 chart.

Strictly Ibiza to Amsterdam is comprised of two discs – “Day” and “Night” which reflect the different sides of Norman Doray. “Day” is a tribute to Norman’s funk and disco roots and works in his brand new single ‘Kalifornia’ produced specially for this compilation with classics such as Phunkie Souls – ‘Tha Music,’ one of his all time personal favourites.

“Night” showcases the clubbier, progressive and tribal sound that he’s currently playing at clubs around the globe. The rhythm is higher, the tracks are stronger and it corresponds totally to what you’d expect from a night out with Norman Doray. Here Norman mixes together big room gear such as Dirty South & Thomas Gold feat. Kate Elsworth ‘Alive,’
Deniz Koyu ‘Tung!,’ Sebjak & Richard Grey ‘Pump Up The Volume’ and David Tort’s remix of ‘Kalifornia.’

‘Kalifornia’ combines a classic 80s disco feel with the sound of today’s true underground house scene to perfect effect. Drenched in feel-good disco vibes that come courtesy of some archetypal Studio54 strings, ‘Kalifornia’ shines with a glittering and vintage aesthetic while still injecting the drive. On the flip, David Tort adds more space and tones down the disco flamboyance in favor of pumping yet still very funky electronic beats. The result is insane, it works so well in club and it’s already supported by Swedish House Mafia, Dirty South, Tiësto, David Guetta and more.

“I really wanted to go back to my roots of funk and disco. I wanted to do something like Junior Jack or Kid Crème, who have always been my inspiration… I love progressive house and really clubbish tracks but I think it’s also important to show people your other face as a producer” – Norman Doray.

Norman Doray has a busy fall lined up with slots on Masquerade Motel and F*** I’m Famous in Ibiza and select US dates in mid-September.

Denis A’s DAR label (and the DARDIGITAL offshoot) is on a creative roll in 2011, having already unleashed a series of stunning tracks they continue to make their mark around the globe with each new release. Now, in October 2011, the DAR label marks a landmark 25th release with the ‘Diamond Edition Remixes’ package featuring two stunning reworks of classic Denis A tracks by Bedrock’s legendary Nick Muir.
Denis A’s ‘Das Auge’ original (DAR017) was a delicious slice of deep dark groove creation, that showed exactly why his production skills are turning so many heads right now. Now that Nick Muir has worked his production magic on ‘Das Auge’, it has been transformed into a veritable monster!!! The big room vibes are most definitely flowing with this massive dancefloor destroyer from John Digweed’s Bedrock studio partner.
Das Auge (Nick Muir Remix) Video:
The original version of Denis A’s ‘Sith’ appeared on DAR016, as an intense percussion led throb monster with a superb breakdown, and was hailed as a superb adventure in new electronic dance music. Koer-Electrica (DARDIGITAL007)

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , on July 12, 2011 by E.N.

Denis A’s offshoot DAR DIGITAL label continues its quest to bring the best new electronic producers to the notice of the world on his DARDIGITAL label with the debut release from Koer.
Koer is a new, evolving musical project founded by Russian DJ/producer Altukhov Kirill, whose musical tastes and artistic development have been greatly influenced by the first Russian techno club, Tunnel, which he frequented often and later where he became a resident DJ and simultaneously began to develop his production skills. His style, which fuses underground techno and melodic dark progressive, is sure to impress here on ‘Electrica’ and he’s another talented young producer to watch out for.
Minitronix (Andrey Labuzov and Vladimir Samoylov) two DJ/producers from Omsk(Russia), hot from their remix of Denis A’s ‘Sith’ (DAR024) introduce more percussive elements and an alternative melodic vibe as they up the pace and energy levels with their interpretation of ‘Electrica’ Marcos Ecstatic (aka Ruslan Plehov) delivers a spacious bouncy percussive progressive remix, before Tenderheart (aka Oleg Tovkach) rounds off the package with clever dub-influenced melodic glitchy interpretation. If you remember Tenderheart’s beautiful remix of ‘Original Sun’ (DARDITIAL003) you’ll know that this Ukrainian
producer is another rising star to watch out for in 2011 as the new Eastern European electronic music scene develops apace.

Taboo – Epic Dream (incl. Fran Von Vie & Scotty.A Remixes) (DARDIGITAL005)

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , , , , , on May 6, 2011 by E.N.

Denis A’s offshoot DAR DIGITAL label continues its quest to bring the best new electronic producers to the notice of the world, following the highly rated brooding menace of Tech D’s ‘Subway’ (DARDIGITAL004), with the outstanding natural beauty of Taboo’s ‘Epic Dream’, complete with remixes from two of the most exciting young producers right now – Fran Von Vie and Scotty.A – who yet again deliver stunning interpretations.

With ‘Epic Dream’, Taboo (aka Matveev Gennadiy and Topalov Konstantin) continue the bold path first explored with their debut release – ‘The 10 Month Liar’ (DARDIGITAL002). They are searching to create something not restricted by the framework of modern music and ‘Epic Dream’ is part of that jigsaw. This is the bold end of the spectrum where darkness can be seen as enlightened. Only when studied intensely can the picture be fully appreciated.

Their collaboration is born from the desire to explore the possibilities of experimenting with the blueprint of sounds from the huge expanse of modern club music. This vision has united these two young sound producers from the city of Odessa in the Ukraine. Taboo is a creative experiment, originally a hobby, which in due course has become by obsession. Both Gennadiv and Konstantin are adamant that this project doesn’t pursue any strict commercial objectives and places emphasis on the process of creativity. ‘Epic Dream’ is a second glimpse of their rising potential.

Those with an ear for the underground will already be well aware of Fran Von Vie’s stunning remix of Tech D’s ‘Subway’ (DARDIGITAL004, out on Beatport now) and his remix of ‘Epic Dream’ is even more impressive!

Fran Von Vie is always looking for new sounds and structures. He doesn’t believe too much in genres, just in making things from the heart, because music is supposed to be felt, not necessarily, to be understood. Here, he works his magic on ‘Epic Dream’ giving it an urgent uplifting intensity that is hard to beat. He adds his trademark punch and power to the already superb original and lifts it to another level.

Since it was only in the summer of last year that Fran Von Vie started to take a serious interest in producing professional electronic tracks for the dancefloor, his progress shows he is yet another hot talent to watch out for in 2011. Listen up!

Scotty.A is another young producer making big waves right now. If you’ve heard his ‘Somewherelse’ / ‘Persistence’ (DAR021, out now on Beatport) you will not be disappointed with his remix of ‘Epic Dream’, as it is yet another stunning creation from this stellar talent. Its all about that slow build that is his trademark ability to inject an understated anthemic quality. Seductive in the extreme, this once again, unmissable!

Scotty.A first came to the attention of Denis A (and subsequently a lot of top DJs around the world) when his remix of ‘Heroin’ (released as DAR018) was the winning entry in the DAR Remix Competition on the excellent Dutch music site – http://www.laptoprockers.eu. Scotty.A has emerged in the last year as an outstanding producer, and his extraordinary passion for music and dedication to his craft is certain to see his career soar in 2011 and beyond.

Out Now:
DARDIGITAL001 – Igor Cold – She’s So Spacey / Gvozdini – Cosmic Breath
DARDIGITAL002 – Responz – Agnostic / Taboo – The 10 Month Liar
DARDIGITAL003 – Madeira – Original Sun / Original Sun (Tenderheart Remix) / Radar
DARDIGITAL004 – Tech D – Subway / Subway (Fran Von Vie Remix)

New DAR releases:
DAR018 – Denis A – Remixes Vol.3 – Beholder (Spooky Remix) / Heroin (Scotty.A Remix)
DAR019 – Denis A – Remixes Vol. 4 – Korriban (Nick Muir Remix) / Ahnenerbe (Nikitin Remix) / Ahnenerbe (Egor Boss Remix)

Denis A’s DAR label goes from strength to strength with these two superb outstanding tracks from the emerging talent that is Scotty.A from the UK.
Its all about a mean and moody, low-slung, building intro that develops a potent, understated anthemic quality when ‘Somehwerelse’ unwinds its seductive style. Unmissable! If any more proof of Scotty.A’s undoubted talents is needed, then look no further than the stylish elegance of ‘Persistence’.
Scotty.A first came to the attention of Denis A (and subsequently a lot of top DJs around the world) when his remix of ‘Heroin’ (released as DAR018) was the winning entry in the DAR remix competition on the excellent Dutch music site – www.laptoprockers.eu. Scotty.A’s extraordinary passion for music and dedication to his craft is certain to see his career soar in 2011.
Scotty.A has emerged in the last year as an outstanding producer who is definitely a talent to be watched closely during 2011. His first few productions have already seen him recognised by the Global Underground label and sign to Denis A’s DAR.
Scotty began dj’ing in 1999 and over the following years started to gain local recognition appearing on line-ups for various events in his hometown whilst developing his own distinctive sound, which can be recognised in his dj sets and productions today. Originally driven by the strong trance released in the late 90’s, Scotty’s sound has evolved to include elements of house, techno, electronica and progressive – Scotty himself is keen to avoid being pinned down to only one genre, describing his sound as a hypnotic amalgamation of many different elements which take the listener on a unique journey. Scotty’s enthusiasm for the music is apparent in his dj sets which has lead him to play at the world famous clubs Turnmills, Ministry of Sound and Pacha alongside names such as Dave Seaman, Danny Howells, Jimmy Van M and many others. You can currently catch Scotty and long-time dj collaborator Jumby playing regular sets at the legendary Electronic Sessions boat parties on the Thames in London.
Scotty first started to take a serious interest in producing his own tracks in Spring 2009, the quality of his work seemed to jump forward meteorically with each new track and in September 2009 his track “Underestimated” was announced as the unanimous winner of a Global Underground bedroom producer competition sponsored by Mixmag & BoxFresh Clothing. Scotty has since had a production signed to Miami based label Aquasounds. Balance 018: Nick Warren
Label: Balance Music (Australia)
Cat. No. BAL002CD
UK & EU Release Date: 25th April 2010
(Australia/Asia: 15th April / N America: 26th April)

Way Out West hero and DJ genius in his own right Nick Warren finally makes his mark on the inspiring Balance series – with a mix that exemplifies why he is revered by so many and furthers his reputation as a selector who truly understands the challenges and subtleties of a successful and enduring mix compilation.
Warren’s style is full of character, his sense of musicality stamped all over the mix, every track utilised and manipulated to its fullest to ensure that every last drop of juice is extracted from it. Just take a look at the succinct tracklisting; the polar opposite of say, Joris Voorn’s incredibly impressive Balance 014, it takes the converse approach and astounds in its own concise manner. Neither approach is “better”, but Warren certainly knows what he’s doing when it comes to “less is more”. This approach has been galvanised by his dynamic new DJ set-up:
I jumped ship to Ableton and the APC40 Controller some time ago and really enjoy it. I can do edits and multiple mixes on the fly, which is great fun. But I also am using the CDJ2000s as well – they are fantastic.”
Name-checking the likes of Egbert, Victoria R, Applescal, Solee and Petar Dundov as current faves, it’s clear that his long-time melodic leanings have now been bolstered by a love of imaginative, new school techno, and indeed this compilation blends the two immaculately.
This album treads a techier and deeper path while sticking to my template of sourcing music from every corner of the globe, once more finding some new and exciting producers”, he explains. His dedication to seeking out unknown beauties has always been part of what makes his sets so enigmatic, and even more so in these times when producers become overnight stars and are rarely shrouded in mystery or anonymity.

Disc 1 gets off to a graceful, deep start – a warm sunrise feel surrounding tracks like Underset’s delicate Berlin – before unexpectedly twisting into the jacking techno throb of Flord’s The Tribe Has Spoken (soaring melodies intact mind you). Paul Hazendonk’s stripped-down My Addiction throws our attention before Eelke Kleijn’s Monkey Movin’ connects the dots and brings the groove back. The mix hops and skips between percussiveness and melodic flourishes at will, keeping you on your toes in anticipation of what’s to come next. Nick W’s TLB keeps it stab-heavy, before Nomad In The Dark’s Drones (Send Me) juxtaposes squelching funked-up bass with psy-trance-esque acid shimmers. Giorgos Gatzigristos’ Tickless brings the first half down to a sub-aquatic close, laden with hazy pads and hypnotic tones.
Warren’s own remix of Tripswitch’s Collider kicks off the second disc with nods to groove-driven, atmospheric ‘90s house music, all cool and slow-burning, and demonstrating he’s a producer to be reckoned with. Beat Factory’s Let’s Take A Walk takes the mix to sensual new heights with its soft, morphing chime refrain and gorgeous synths, with Lank’s Ain’t No Problem stating its intent next with a killer, shimmying groove that builds to incessant and heady heights. Yamil Colucci’s Bristol Warm makes for a resplendent centrepiece with its heavenly pianos and lashings of warmth, leading us towards the ethereal charms of Solee’s Aragon and the techy splash and buzzing refrains of Steve Mill’s Someday, with Solee reappearing to add a cinematic lift to the end of the mix in his remix of Warren’s Flowers. It’s left to Pablo Acenso’s pulsing Bread to cap a beautiful collection off with its bold, melancholy chords making for an engrossing and tantalising finale.
It’s the coolest end of the compilation market and an honour for me to be involved”, says Nick of the Balance oeuvre, and he’s done justice to this acclaimed series with a hype-free creation that eschews transient trendiness, in favour of refreshingly mature musical sophistication.
