Gil Scott-Heron “Nothing New” out April 19 on XL Recordings+Stream “Alien”

Posted in News with tags , , , , , on April 1, 2014 by E.N.

gilOn what would have been his 65th birthday, XL Recordings today announce that they will release an album of unheard Gil Scott-Heron recordings.

During the 2008 I’m New Here sessions at New York’s Looking Glass studios, Scott-Heron recorded stripped-down, new versions of some of his greatest songs. Accompanying himself on piano and with no overdubs, this is Nothing New, a unique musical insight into one of the most profound recording artists of our time. It will be available only on 12″ vinyl, limited to 3000 copies, and released exclusively for Record Store Day on April 19, 2014.

SATELLITES.02

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , , on September 5, 2013 by E.N.

SATELLITES‘02’For the few who discovered it, SATELLITES.01 was undoubtedly one of the best albums of the last 12 months – arriving with no advance notices, just a quiet confidence in its accomplishments. As album of the week at Rough Trade, it was then voted their #16 Album of 2012.
Since then, it has been slowly and carefully surfacing in the wider media at both press and radio, both here and abroad. It launched unannounced as a limited release through US independents for Record Store Day, which elicited some passionate blogger notices.
While that album rises, so Johnny Vic – who is SATELLITES – has been documenting a next stage in his rite of passage as a man and Artist. And 12 months after 01, SATELLITES.02 lands in the UK this September.

Tracklist: 01 SOMETHING BIGGER / 02 NEON SUN / 03 THIS IS ALL THAT THERE IS / 04 GOD BLESS AMERICA / 05 GHOST OF A MEMORY / 06 WORLD AT YOUR FEE / 07 MADISON PARK BELL / 08 BONE TROPHIES / 09 BEG STEAL & BORROW / 10 WASTELAND / 11 HOURGLASS.

A limited edition of the Album will feature an additional 10-track live performance recorded in Saint Saviour’s Church, Hampstead, London, with a drum machine, guitar, piano, cello and a 16-piece choir. Featuring tracks from 01, 02, a cover of Kraftwerk’s ‘The Model’ and a completely new track, this is an entirely fresh take on the SATELLITES sound.

Villagers / Charlotte Gainsbourg – Record Store Day 7″
In the fall of 2010, Charlotte Gainsbourg approached Conor O’Brien (aka Villagers) to compose a song for her.

The result is ‘Memoir’, a song which Conor wrote between soundchecks and radio sessions on his week long mid-western tour last September before staying up all night in a Chicago hotel room to finish the track. Charlotte loved it and they recorded it together the following week at Studio Ferber in Paris, with Conor co-producing alongside Renaud Letang (producer of Feist, Jamie Lidell, Manu Chao…).

The split 7″ features the sumptuous ‘Set the Tigers Free’ by Villagers as well as Charlotte’s beautiful rendition of ‘Memoir’, taken from her ‘Live and Unreleased’ album out this Autumn. These tunes will be wrapped up in striking 7″ artwork by Conor and sold exclusively for Record Store Day.
