Erotic Discourse – Dense & Pika and Kowton Remixes
Paul Woolford’s classic “Erotic Discourse” by now needs little introduction. The genre-defining cut remains evergreen eight years after initial release and has inspired contemporary reimaginings here by two of UK techno’s brightest sparks: Dense & Pika and Kowton.
Both offer wildly different, equally opulent, takes on the original’s distinctive pulsar riff: Kowton twists, turns, swivels and bends it into a beatless DJ-tool-of-the-year contender, while Dense & Pika lace it with their inimitable largeness – already a club hit from Miami to Milton Keynes. Big remixes for a big record.

The new MK vocal edit of Storm Queen’s ‘Look Right Through’ will be released later this year on Ministry of Sound/Defected. Joining the party is UK bass don, Lil Silva, who’s delivered a signature bass heavy remix.
The track is the work of Storm Queen aka American DJ/producer, Morgan Geist and former ‘subway singer’, Damon C Scott. Geist is also known as one half of celebrated US house duo, Metro Area. A cult figure with the global electronic music movement, his output has covered disco, house and boogie, with each release displaying a clear affinity with the dancefloor.
His new EP Astronaut follows the hugely successful single of the same name. Centered on Joel’s sexy falsetto, and with beats that reference everything from trap to house, it comes at exactly the right time in this future-pop zeitgeist moment.
Astronaut’s overall sound draws heavily on the UK underground, but Joel’s voice has more in common with American singers like Miguel, Frank Ocean, and Maxwell than it does those from his own hood. At turns dark and disturbing, at others boldly witty and markedly candid, his is indie R&B at its best.
Some people may already be familiar with Pig&Dan’s “Less Is More Dub Remix” as it has been floating around on promo recently. The stripped-back club dub version accentuating tough techno beats to maximum effect has already been getting very positive reviews and reactions.
But, what people might not know, is that Pig&Dan have also produced an exceptional “Groove Remix” featuring more vocals, which was not in the promo package, so is coming in under the radar and is too good to miss!
If you know anything about dance music’s history you’ll know Inner City’s “Good Life”. Written and produced by Kevin Saunderson and featuring the vocals of Paris Grey, it was originally released in 1988 and went on to become one of the defining tunes of its era, maintaining “classic” status ever since. Some 15 years later, KMS are releasing a series of remix packages that pay homage and update a tune that must be in everyone’s all time list.

Released in July, Belgian producer Compuphonic’s hazy, light dappled house track ‘Sunset’, has grown through word of mouth to become one of 2012’s biggest underground hits, watched over 2 million times on YouTube. The track, featuring the plaintive vocals of Marques Toliver (Bella Union), is now set for a full re-release in February on Get Physical, backed with remixes from some of the most exciting names in clubland today.
Fellow Belgian producer, Aeroplane, shows just why he’s one of the most in demand producers around at the moment, delivering a remix that floats from the speakers, expertly capturing the warmth inherent in the original.
Riding high on the back of acclaimed remixes for T.E.E.D. and Disclosure, London duo Waze & Odyssey inject their trademark house/garage bump n’ grind into the track, whilst up & coming UK producers Aashton & Swift provide a sophisticated remix whose subtle dynamics, synths and piano are sure to soundtrack suns both setting and rising throughout 2013.
