Plastikman – EX (Preview)

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , on June 6, 2014 by E.N.

Plastikman - EX
Plastikman, aka Richie Hawtin, recorded EX at the Guggenheim, New York’s iconic art museum. This very special performance was at the invitation of influential Belgium fashion designer and artistic director at Dior, Raf Simons, for the Guggenheim’s annual fundraiser, performed around a specially constructed LED obelisk.

Richie Hawtin explains, “I knew that Raf was a long time Plastikman fan so by accepting his offer to perform at the Dior event at the Guggenheim I knew I’d set myself up to a huge challenge. Although Raf was happy to have the already complete Plastikman Live 1.5 show, I locked myself away in a series of intense studio sessions and quickly recorded enough new material for the performance and realized I might also have enough for a complete new album. The music came out of me effortlessly as I was very inspired by the opportunity to play in this beautiful architectural space renowned more for art than music. The location also allowed me to step far away from the dancefloor, giving me a huge amount of freedom to EXplore any sonic ideas that I had. Art, music, architecture, painting, sculpture – these mediums are supposed to live together.

Timo Maas Announces New Single ‘Tantra'(Stream)

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on November 2, 2013 by E.N.

Timo Maas - Tantra‘Tantra’ is the new single from German polymath, Timo Maas. Taken from his latest artist album, ‘Lifer’, the track is the latest release during a vintage year for the acclaimed German DJ and producer.

As expected with any Rockets & Ponies release, the label has assembled a crack squad of remixers includingTom Demac (who’s about to drop a forthcoming collaboration with Will Samson on Aus), James Teej (the My Favourite Robot boss returns the favour for Timo’s reworking of ‘Liking Your Disorder’), Atelier Francesco
(a new project and accompanying pseudonym from an already eclectic Italian producer) and Wolfgang Haffner (the ECHO music award-winning German drummer famous for his work with Nightmares On Wax and beyond).

Timo’s first new artist album for several years, Lifer, included guest spots from Mikill Pane, Placebo’s Brian Molko, U.N.K.L.E’s James Lavelle, Katie Cruel and more. The album arrived on the cusp of a summer season that saw him celebrate 10 years as a resident at DC10 in Ibiza, alongside shows at Used & Abused with Loco Dice, and the ANTS opening and closing events at Ushuaia.

Farther afield, Timo played standout parties for My Favorite Robot at Sonar (on the beach and a hotel rooftop), plus US gigs at New York’s Cielo club and at Wavefront – all in addition to his hectic globe-traversing schedule. Details on his forthcoming US and South American tour dates will be released soon.

Outside of ‘Lifer’, this year Timo produced, ‘Pop A Bubble’, his own original contribution to Cocoon’s 100th release compilation, and remixes for James Teej on Sasha’s Last Night On Earth label and Johnny Mikes on Lower East Records; reworkings that added to a remix pedigree that includes Madonna, Depeche Mode, Muse, Fatboy Slim and beyond.

Timo’s remix for Hackman is due in late January 2014 on LA’s HaloCyan Records. The next remix EP from ‘Lifer’comes complete with remixes from The Martinez Brothers, Maetrik (Maceo Plex), Addison Groove, Fur Coat, Livio & Roby, and Luca Lozano, and is due in December.

Ever at ease straddling the somewhat disparate worlds of underground electronic music culture and credible muso pop, Timo and his production partner, Santos, created Rockets & Ponies for both their own productions, and outings from the likes of Maetrik, Tobi Neumann, Riva Starr, Giorgio Roma and more, and they continue to welcome new talent to the imprint. The next single is from Wolfgang Haffner, backed by remixes from Ricardo Villalobos & Max Loderbauer, Nightmares on Wax, Timo Maas & Acid Mondays.

Richie Hawtin DE9 Fragments 7. Somewhere in South Africa
‘DE9 Fragments’ is a series of fragmented audio edits based upon my live DJ set recordings. Each one will attempt to capture the feeling and direction of the night, giving those who were there a reminder of the events they experienced while giving those who were not present a fragmented distortion of what they missed.

Drop The Lime – Enter The Night

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , on June 13, 2012 by E.N.

NYC-based producer/DJ DROP THE LIME—born Luca Venezia–is branching out.  For his album ENTER THE NIGHT, out July 2 on Ultra Music, he adds songwriter, guitarist and vocalist to his credits.  With passion for bass and a thirst for blood, he weaves a baroque nighttime fantasy, riding the range from the ashes of rave into the dark heart of rock & roll.

His music (like his life) is an epic adventure of mystery, heartbreak and magic, combining the gun-slinging swagger of Ennio Morricone, the techno grandeur of Underworld, and the storytelling prowess of Johnny Cash.  As influenced by Richie Valens as Richie Hawtin, the album’s first single “Bandit Blues” finds Venezia marrying his blues guitar licks and unmistakably sultry croon to the sheer dance music wizardry that has become his trademark. It was New York City—where, in addition to New Orleans and London, he recorded the album–that was the draw for “Bandit Blues.”

“Being born there and having so much love for the city means I wear it on my sleeve,” says Venezia of ENTER THE NIGHT’s first single.  “It’s an incredible inspiration for me, but right now, it feels like there’s a lot of struggle going on with the economy and the people. The economy being a mess, politics being a mess–everything is a mess. The only way to really enjoy it is through music.”

Mute is proud to announce the launch of a brand new label, Liberation Technologies. Following on from Mute’s long tradition of working with innovative artists, Liberation Technologies plans to extend that freedom and vision. Within this remit the label will work with highly distinctive and pioneering electronic musicians, some established, some new.

Citing reference from Mute’s original and continuing statement of intent, the label exists to give space to and encourage artists to experiment and challenge themselves, anonymously if they choose.

Liberation Technologies is headed by A & R man Patrick O’Neill, whose list of associates previous to joining Mute include Actress, T++, Moritz Von Oswald, Joy Orbison, Darkstar and Zomby. As important as the music itself, will be statement design, a commitment to vinyl product and inventive methods of releasing each work. There are also plans to branch out into live happenings in 2012.

The first release on the new label will be the ‘Spring EP’ by King Felix, a producer from Ann Arbor, Michigan who lives in Brooklyn and has also released music as Laurel Halo. ‘Spring EP’ is released on download and vinyl on 19 March 2012.

Says Daniel Miller, “Electronic music is part of Mute’s DNA and history, and this label is the latest expression of that.”

About Mute
Mute was founded by Daniel Miller in 1978, and since then has signed and developed some of the world’s most influential recording artists – including Depeche Mode, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Yazoo, Goldfrapp and Erasure – and become home to a crop of emerging talent and recent signings including Apparat and S.C.U.M.

Whilst maintaining a firmly eclectic roster, from the earliest days of The Normal, Fad Gadget and DAF through to the techno era with artists such as Plastikman / Richie Hawtin and Speedy J, and to the present day with hybrid electronic artists such as Yeasayer and Liars.

Mute also looks after a catalogue of seminal artists such as Can and Cabaret Voltaire.
