The credentials EP sees new beginnings for both the artist and label involved. Switched On Records is a new project from S.E.F, formerly one half of Deep Teknologi Records, who has set his sights firmly on the Housier ends of things and introduces the relatively unknown London-based producer Alex D££mnds.
D££mnds pulls no punches with his first offering and lead track ‘Credentials’ is a dancefloor burner that has already been garnering support from Martyn, Sinden, Scratcha DVA, Altered Natives and Rinse FM’s MA1. In what can only be described as Deep house with urgency the title track is propelled by intertwining synths that are set to hypnotise the dancefloor and enthrall the DJ. Ebbing and flowing through a see of filters and and intermittent percussion the track is a boisterous take on House and the mammoth drop halfway through gives the track an extra dimension.
‘Pressure’ is an effort that is full of tension with is dark overtones and eerie melody is a definite grower with its subtle hi-hat arrangement that gives the track an abundance of swing and groove. The EP concludes with the most laid back effort of the three, ‘Baidin’. Fusing quirky key stabs with an almost muffled drum loop the track slowly unravels into a spaced out lullaby that floats into dreamy territory with extensive use of delay. Whilst it’s melancholic natures is what appeals the most it still manages to refrain from being too polite or conservative and is a warming end to the EP.
Artist: JTRP
Title: Hypnotise EP
Label: Deep Teknologi Records
Release Date: 1st August 2011
Format: Digital
The German duo of JTRP return to the Deep Teknologi imprint with the hugely anticipated Hynotise EP which sees the duo progress into much darker territory with their 130 BPM output.
Lead track ‘Hypnotise’ is a stripped-back affair with an acid bassline that’s reminiscent of early 00′s grime with its sublow tendencies.
But their sophomore release really starts to take shape when the AA Side ‘Ceddybu’ comes into play with its tense 2 minute build-up that drops into an explosive off kilter synth workout. With crispy drum programming in abundance here this one is sure throw any dancer off their 2-step momentarily but once that drop comes in it all makes sense.
Rounding things off the atmospheric ‘Shady’ probably lays claim to be the deeper of the three tracks with it’s submerged bassline and synth combo which gradually builds up a a plethora of dramatic tension.
Already garnering support from Fact Magazine and earning the Money Shot accolade in DJ Mag as well as love from Mary Anne Hobbs, Sinden, Hannah Holland and Chrissy Murderbot, Hypnotise is set to do cement JTRP in the UK bass music scene and propel their evolution into future mainstays.

LA might get all the shine for the burgeoning beat scene, but a few states over in Colorado, producer Alex B (a.k.a. Alex Botwin) has been quietly setting up an abstract, instrumental fiefdom of his own. (That’s why we recently tapped him to host the Denver edition of our ongoing City Guide series for XLR8R TV.) As head of Elm and Oak, which functions as a record label, design shop, and clothing line, Botwin’s talents aren’t limited to just beatmaking, although his debut album, Moments, certainly garnered plenty of attention when it dropped earlier this year. Next week, he’ll be setting off on a massive US tour—check the litany of dates here—and as a little preview, he’s assembled this exclusive mix for the XLR8R podcast. It’s a layered, at times psychedelic, journey through hip-hop beats, dubstep brawn, and bedroom-studio skronk that nicely showcases Botwin’s talents; as it happens, he either produced or remixed half the songs here. Throw in some unreleased gems from like-minded beat producers, and this podcast is poised to get any beat freak salivating.
Finally new podcast from our fav.artist Alex B-dont miss it!

Earlier this year, UK bass icon Sinden launched his own record label, Grizzly. The label’s discography is only a few releases deep—the most recent being WAFA’s “Ewid Disco” 12”—but it’s quickly become clear that Sinden’s A&R acumen is as potent as his talent for crafting high-quality radio broadcasts, not to mention his top-notch DJ and production skills. Speaking of the latter, he’s also got the debut album from The Count & Sinden slated for release in the near future, not to mention plenty more Grizzly releases and his usual spate of DJ gigs around the globe. Amidst all this, Sinden somehow found the time to assemble a mix for the XLR8R podcast series, and, as expected, it weaves together propulsive, low-end-heavy tunes—many of them unreleased and/or exclusive—that touch on different scenes, sounds, and continents.

As if the kind people at RAMP don’t give you an ample amount of music, they are now gracious enough to present new label PTN. PTN will be covering a more stripped down basement sound, coming from UK Funky and House music.

Briskly traveling from Swansea to Leeds, PTN follows Doc Daneeka’s release with an equally hyped EP of fresh material from Hackman, who along with Doc D, featured in FACT Magazine’s top 10 producers to watch for the year.
Look out for future releases from Iceland’s Hypno, dropping Deep House on yo ass like volcanic ash – featuring a remix from Julio Bashmore, and the ultra massive “Fatherless” from Breach!
