Since quietly uploading a few clips onto Soundcloud in January it’s fair to say that things have snowballed for Waze & Odyssey. EPs for Southern Fried, PetFood, Wolf Music, Sccucci Manucci and Body Work, plus remixes for Dan Le Sac, Discolusre and Damon Martin have all followed in quick succession, picking up plaudits from press, DJs and public alike.

Their Sccucci Manucci EP topped the Juno sales chart, they scored two ‘Singles of the Month’ in DJ Mag (the C’mon EP on Body Work and their remix of Damon Martin), been supported by everyone from Annie Mac on Radio 1, Sinden on Kiss FM and pirates everywhere and were even recently commissioned to remix a track off the forthcoming Tekken console game.

Ahead of the first release on W&O Street Tracks, their own vinyl label, in September the duo of Firas Waez (Caze Nove) & Serge Santiago (Radio Slave and Retro/Grade) return to Body Work with two tracks of their trademark bumping, shuffling New Jersey garage influenced house music that has seen them compared to the likes of Azari & III and house legends Murk.

Guaranteed to cause maximum bump n’ grind on the dancefloor ‘Turn The Volume On’ and ‘Rejected’ further cement this duo’s position as one of the most exciting new acts around today.

Since it’s launch in February 2012 Body Work has quickly established itself as one of the most exciting new labels around with releases from artists such as CSY & Stripes, LPZ, Waze & Odyssey and Aashton & Swift all finding their way into the boxes of some of the biggest DJs around.

Today sees the US release of The 2 Bears’ debut album, Be Strong, which is available on vinyl and CD from the DFA store, and digitally via iTunes. In celebration of the full-length release, the Bears are sharing a new mix, “Whatever The Weather,” which premiered onSpinner RPM. The mix features new tracks from DFA labelmates Factory Floor, as well as tracks from Armand Van Helden, Henrik Schwarz, Gino Soccio, Davina and more. The 2 Bears, comprised of Joe Goddard (Hot Chip) and Raf Daddy, has announced the release of their debut full-length, Be Strong, which will come out digitally on January 31st via DFA Records, with the physical release following in the spring. Today, the band has announced two EP’s for “Work,” and are giving away the album version of the track.

The first Work EP is due out January 24th, and includes a remix by St. Etienne, a 2 Bears dub mix, and b-side “Shake Down.” The second Work EP follows on February 7th, and features remixes by Toddla T, Oliver $, and Sona Vabos.

A London record through and through, Be Strong ducks and weaves to the myriad sounds of the city, as The 2 Bears pursue the perfect party record.  Raf Daddy (aka Raphael Rundell) met Joe Goddard (taking time out from his day job as one fifth of Hot Chip) through a party scene that saw them share deck duties at the legendary Greco-Roman parties. Upon venturing into the studio in an attempt to replicate some of the records that they’d lost themselves in the night before, Raf found himself laying down vocals over Joe’s skipping, bassomatic backing tracks safe in the knowledge that they’d soon be replaced by someone with sweeter, more melodious tones. In the end, it was Raf’s voice that characterized and personalized The 2 Bears.

Over its ten tracks, Be Strong conjures up that elusive spirit of the dancefloor without pretension, and with ultimate precision. It’s a soul record in that it’s from the soul, wearing its imperfections with pride. It’s a dance record in that it’ll get you off your seat. It’s a London record in that it couldn’t have come from any other city in 2011, echoing the glorious schizophrenic sound of a late night cab ride listening to a radio with a mind of its own.

With minimal effort and maximum respect from their peers, tracks began to be hammered in clubs and on radio by the likes of Andrew Weatherall, Erol Alkan, Pete Tong and Annie Mac.  This summer’s Bear Hug EP cranked things up yet another notch with Chris Moyles giving the track some early morning airings and Elton John and Paul McCartney declaring themselves fans.

Alongside tracks like “Be Strong,” “Church” and the mighty “Bear Hug” – a pummeling treatise on the benefits of the peak time dancefloor cuddle. Raf and Joe mutate genres into previously unheard territories of dancehall country on the bouncing prison yard lament “Time In Mind” and garage reggae on “Heart Of the Congos,” a track that manages to simultaneously channel both Wookie and early ‘80s Madness before placing them each at a system in the heart of Notting Hill Carnival at dusk.

With the anticipation around the release of The 2 Bears’ (Hot Chip’s Joe Goddard and Raf Daddy) debut album reaching fever pitch, our ursine stars have unveiled the video for their new single, Work, and announced that their album will now be released through DFA Records in the US.

Filmed on location in Brixton Market, South London, and the bears’ own studio, the video features the local community getting ready for the day ahead, preparing their stalls, tattooing their clients and in Joe and Raf’s case getting in an early morning visit to the barbers to be de-furred.

Directed by Zaiba Jabbar, the video perfectly catches the spirit of the song showcasing another side to The 2 Bears and the area of London they work and play in. The video is now available to be streamed on The 2 Bears’ YouTube channel, the single is released on January 2nd and comes complete with remixes fromToddla T, Oliver $, Supabeatz and Franky Rizardo.

The 2 Bears debut album, Be Strong, tipped to be one of THE debuts of 2012, will now be simultaneously released on the 30th January on Southern Fried in the UK and on DFA Records in the US.

Alongside previously released tracks like Be Strong, Church and the mighty Bear Hug – a pummelling treatise on the benefits of the peak time dancefloor cuddle – Raf and Joe mutate genres into previously unheard territories.
