10YearsOfCrosstownRebelsArtworkCrosstown Rebels commemorate 10 years of historical releases with a three CD collection spanning over thirty of their best records from the vaults. Named label of the year 2013 in the Ibiza DJ Awards and Resident Advisor’s No 1 label in 2011, the Rebels also encompass innovative global events, a festival series and a worldwide artist network. Arguably the most established and renowned house and techno label of our time, this collection is laced with nostalgia and documents its brightest and boldest moments.

‘10 Years’ revisits some classic and early releases from the scene’s biggest stars including Maceo Plex, Seth Troxler, Jamie Jones, Tiga, Soul Clap and Art Department alongside more obscure yet still unforgettable material from Andre Kraml, Pier Bucci, Minilogue and Deniz Kurtel. These are the sounds that made Crosstown Rebels the label of the past decade and document some historical moments that have shaped the current musical landscape.

John Digweed is set to release “Live In London” (4xCD) (Bedrock)

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on November 8, 2012 by E.N.

“Live In London” features nearly 5 hours of amazing music across a bumper 4xCD set from John Digweed, recorded live in the mix at the recent Bedrock Anniversary Party at Fire & Lightbox, London. You will hear more than 50 tracks and remixes from some of the world’s best underground producers, including the likes of Simian Mobile Disco, Tiga, Deetron, Gabriel Ananda, Robert Babicz, Max Cooper, Ben Pearce, jozif, Kollektiv Turmstrasse, Luca Bacchetti, Todd Bodine, Pig & Dan, Butch, Paul Ritch, Justin Martin, Catz ‘n Dogz, SIS, Smash TV, Julian Jeweil, Subb-an, Phonogenic, Technasia, Guy J, Heiko Laux & Diego Hostettler and many others. “Live In London” is a flawless journey through some of the most exciting current electronic dance music, all programmed and mixed to perfection, forming the perfect snapshot of one of the best Bedrock events of the year.

The Bedrock Anniversary parties in London are always truly special as it feels like coming home to me. For some reason this party seemed extra special, Fire in Vauxhall is a new venue for us and it has a labyrinth of rooms under the arches which allowed us to feature a line up that most festivals would be happy with! There was definitely a magical vibe in the air when I arrived. I had heard that people had travelled from Russia, America, all over Europe, even New Zealand, to be there. The party was perfect for me, the amazing international crowd created an incredible atmosphere all night long. I love DJing more than ever these days, so to get to play for over 8 hours to an up for it crowd like that, was just pure heaven. This is the first time I have released a 4xCD live mix from one of my gigs and I hope it brings back some great memories for those who were there. If you couldn’t make it, turn the lights down low, turn the volume up loud and I think you’ll understand. I hope you enjoy listening as much as I did playing.” – John Digweed

Daniel Avery mixes FABRICLIVE 66 – Released 19th November

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , , , , on September 19, 2012 by E.N.

Artist:         Daniel Avery
Title:           FABRICLIVE 66
Label:        fabric Records
Release:    19.11.12 (USA 08.01.13)
Pre-order:  http://bit.ly/S2dcCd
There may be lots of people, most of all Daniel Avery, who are surprised at the direction his musical path has taken. A self-confessed late starter to the world of dancefloors, instead being drawn to the guitars of The Stooges and The Smashing Pumpkins in his teens, Daniel Avery has come a long way in a short space of time to make some of the most forward-thinking, original and diverse contemporary electronic music around. Devouring his dad’s record collection from a young age, it was the discovery of Mary Anne Hobbs’ ‘Breezeblock’ show that illuminated exactly what makes club music so special and propelled him to apply as a warm-up DJ at south coast club night, Project Mayhem; a job that showcased his broad and eclectic tastes, and a job that no doubt changed his life. Now releasing on ‘kindred spirit’ Erol Alkan’s Phantasy label and with an album in the works for next year, Avery has quietly but surely cemented his reputation as a producer steeped in musical knowledge, with an innate skill for breaking boundaries with each and every production.
“I feel incredibly honoured to be a resident at fabric. It is one of my favourite places in the world to be, let alone play. Not many institutions can say they’ve successfully supported new, underground music for so long.” –Daniel Avery
A mix made solely for the floor, Avery’s FABRICLIVE 66 is exactly the kind of set you would hear him playing if you walked into any club at peak time. But this is not thoughtless music; there’s a real need to take the listener somewhere with this mix, to take you by surprise and make you lose yourself within the expertly selected tracks. Featuring a mix of new and exclusive tracks alongside Avery’s own productions, this is also a celebration of the labels and artists who have both worked with and inspired Avery on a regular basis. In addition to ‘Effect Tweak’ made with Justin Robertson, you’ll find another exclusive track from Avery’s idol and supporter, Andrew Weatherall – in his guise as The Asphodells with Timothy J Fairplay – made purely for this mix. Alongside Avery’s ‘Naïve Reception’, all three tracks are arguably produced to capture that certain specific dancefloor lose-yourself-completely mentality. Something Avery manages effortlessly.
“It’s rare to be able to take such risks in a club, especially at a time when anybody can mix together crowd-pleasing fodder on their laptop. That’s not for me. I love weird records; that original, lawless spirit of acid house where the music is pulsing but will also throw in some mind-bending, psychedelic elements to knock you sideways and make you lose yourself within it. This mix is my take on that idea.” – Daniel Avery
Daniel Avery will launch FABRICLIVE 66 at fabric on Friday 9th November, alongside Optimo, Kink (LIVE), Tiga, Duke Dumont, Gingy & Bordello, Sei A, Matt Walsh and more TBC.

Mute announce the second EP from VCMG’s forthcoming album, remixed by Mathew Jonson and Byetone.

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on January 26, 2012 by E.N.

EP2 / Single Blip – from Vince Clarke and Martin L. Gore’s highly anticipated collaboration, VCMG – rears its head on 27 February 2012, with remixes from Byetone and Mathew Jonson.
A pounding motorik beat heralds the start of this minimal electronic tour de force. With primal drums and puckering bleeps, it’s an industrial battle cry of the darkest proportions, setting teeth on edge with nails-across-blackboard screeching, ominous synths and spiraling rhythms.
EP2 / Single Blip remixes come courtesy of sparce electronic artist Byetone, aka Berliner Olaf Bender, co-founder and the man responsible for the iconic design output at Raster-Noton. His 2011 album Symeta featured in Fact and The Quietus’ end of year polls, and previous remix credits inc Modeselektor and eLan.
Alongside is a remix from Mathew Jonson, co-founder of Wagon Repair label and one-third of electronic improvisers Cobblestone Jazz. Canadian born Jonson has previously remixed the likes of Plastikman, Tiga and Chemical Brothers to great acclaim.
‘SSSS’ – the debut album by VCMG – is out on 12 March 2012 and boasts ten tracks of the same Teutonic turn-ons. Written and produced by Clarke and Gore, the album was mixed by Timothy “Q” Wiles and recorded and engineered by Sie Medway Smith and Clarke.
Mastered by Stefan Betke (aka Pole), the album demonstrates Clarke and Gore’s shared love of electronic music and marks the arrival proper of this enigmatic duo who have teamed up again after thirty years.

Speaking to MOJO this month, Clarke says the collaborative process was “really about exchanging colours… like two people doing a painting in a different room,” and Gore confessed his preference for “anything that’s a bit darker…with a driving rhythm.”

Tricky – Time To Dance Remixes (preview)

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on June 11, 2011 by E.N.

Tricky is to release Time To Dance (RUG417D), from his most recent album Mixed Race, as a digital single on Monday the 18th of July 2011. The single will feature remixes from Maya Jane Coles, Doorly and FiFi Rong.
Mixed Race was released last September to great critical acclaim. Tricky has since completed tours of the UK, Australia, Europe and South America with many sold out shows. Tricky will be headlining Blissfields Festival in Winchester on July 2nd before heading into the studio with some interesting electronic artists – full details to follow!

The Time To Dance remixes have already been picking up support from a broad spectrum of dance music’s elite including Ramon Tapia, Plump DJs, John Selway, Groove Armada, Sister Bliss, Kruse & Nuernberg, Mighty Mouse, Hector Romero and Nick Warren. Here is further information on the remixers themselves:

With covers of Mixmag and DJ Mag Weekly already under her belt, and a Radio 1 Essential Mix landing in July, 23-yr old Maya Jane Coles is the rising producer/DJ on everyone’s lips. Support for her productions are as wide ranging as Skream to Scuba on the dubstep side through to Jamie Jones and Laurent Garnier on the house front. As a remixer in her own right Maya has remixed artists from MSTRKRFT through to Todd Terry and as one half of dub-electronica duo She is Danger, her credits include Massive Attack, Delphic and Gorillaz.

The second mix on the package comes from blogger’s favourite, Doorly. The Ibiza Rocks resident has been making just as many waves from Sydney to London as he has in the Balearics – most recently on a 30-date arena tour of North America supporting Rusko. Famed for his ‘Pigeon Hole This’ label and attitude; Doorly’s remix credits list to many to mention but include Prodigy, Groove Armada, Dizzee Rascal, Basement Jaxx and Sia with the likes of Fake Blood, Tiga, Shy FX and Soulwax supporting them at club.

And finally, the third remix comes from FiFi Rong. Signed to Tricky’s Brown Punk label, FiFi Rong is one of London’s freshest talents producing from Dubstep through to UK Funky.

Chilly Gonzales – You Can Dance (Video+Robotaki remix preview)

“…highly entertaining.” – New York Times

“You Can Dance” Single Available
March 1st via Arts & Crafts
2010 will be remembered as the year that Chilly Gonzales made a name for himself with his latest album (and accompanying film!) Ivory Tower, which received tremendous critical acclaim and best-of 2010 accolades worldwide. Now we’re thrilled to announce the release of a new single from Ivory Tower, in the form of “You Can Dance,” a euphoric hand-clap piano jamboree. The upbeat disco-soul number sees release on March 1st via Canadian tastemaker label Arts & Crafts!

The single, which will be available digitally in North America, comes with several remixes, including one from the nineteen-year old blog sensation Robotaki- other remixes come courtesy of Max Tundra, Shadow Dancer, Gemini Club, Edwin Van Cleef and Popular Computer.

Gonzales is also known as a super-producer of sorts, working with a wide array of artists. Best known for his production work with Feist (whose album The Reminderearned him a Grammy nomination), Peaches and Jamie Lidell, he has more recently worked with Marina & the Diamonds and Tiga, not to mention older collaborations with Bjork and Daft Punk. His single “Never Stop” was recently chosen by Apple to soundtrack the latest iPad commercial, broadcasting Chilly’s magic to millions of homes across the globe.

As for his own material, Gonzo has criss-crossed the musical world. His early releases tended toward lo-fi rap (The Entertainist) and dark, gritty cabaret (Gonzales Über Alles), or a combination of the two (Presidential Suite). In 2004 he took a step in a different direction with Solo Piano, an album consisting entirely of beautifully arranged original compositions of classical and jazz piano numbers that became his most well-known and best selling album to date.

In addition to all this great news, Chilly’s brilliantly hilarious film Ivory Tower, featuring Tiga and Peaches as well as frequent Gonzales collaborator Feist, is due for release on DVD later this year.

“You Can Dance” Single Includes Remixes from:

Robotaki
Max Tundra
Shadow Dancer
Edwin Van Cleef
Popular Computer
Gemini Club
Cosmonaut Grechko

Best Of… Remixes

of The Whip’s “Muzzle #1” HERE   for a Sample of The Album

After selling out venues across the world as The Bloody Beetroots Death Crew 77, Sir Bob Cornelius has announced the release of his first collection of remixes, Best Of… Remixes (Out Now, Dim Mak). Since the Bloody Beetroots project began turning heads back in 2007, Sir Bob has amassed a series of impressive remixes, ranging from his cascading remix of The Chemical Brothers “Dissolve” to the reworking of The Refused’s “New Noise.” Spanning 18 tracks, plus five digital-only cuts, these remixes are available in one package, available now and including his work with Robyn, MSTRKRFT, Vitalic, The Whip (download The Beetroots’ remix of “Muzzle #1″ HERE) and Tiga. Full tracklist below.

Since the project’s debut four years ago, Sir Bob Cornelius Rifo has pushed the boundaries of dance music, incorporating elements from disparate genres and styles that range from the drive of hardcore punk to sweeping arrangements drawn from Rifo’s time studying Chopin, Beethoven, and Debusey. From “Butter” to “Cornelius” to the Steve Aoki assisted “Warp 1.9,” The Bloody Beetroots’ early singles dominated clubs across the globe, paving the way for the group’s debut full-length Romborama. The album was a star-studded affair that featured guest appearances from everyone from Justin Pearson (The Locust, All Leather) and Vicarious Bliss to The Cool Kids and J*DaVeY. The record was followed by the Spares of Romborama Series, which included Xmas Vendetta and The Domino EP. Touring the globe with his partner in crime Tommy Tea, the project earned a reputation for his sweaty, two man DJ sets. Last year, The Bloody Beetroots further expanded his setup, reimagining the poject’s music as The Bloody Beetroots DeathCrew 77. A dramatic step forward for him , The Bloody Beetroots became a live band with Rifo on guitar, bass, and synths,Tommy Tea on controllers, and The Beetroots’ newest member Edward Grinch on drums.

TURBO084 Gentle Giant Remixes – Tiga Turbo 12″ Vinyl
(martyn, efdemin, mathew jonson rmxs) the latest in a series of remix 12-inches from Tiga’s 2009 album Ciao!, featuring some of the most respected and sought-after producers in dance music taking on the most respected icon in dance musi When a song means a lot to you personally, having it remixed is a lot like sending your child to undergo plastic surgery. In this case, though, it was like having the operation performed by doctors you respect as musicians. This is most likely my favorite track off Ciao!, and the response I’ve gotten from fans seems to suggest I’m not alone. They come up to me and say, “Tiga, that was an amazing game of racquetball, but the real reason I’m here is to tell you how much “Gentle Giant” means to me.” And it’s not uncommon for my sports goggles to fill up with salty blue Gatorade tears, mainly because I thought we had been playing squash. Some may claim that the remixes on this release are too diverse, that they strain the acceptable boundaries of what’s eclectic and what’s too hectic to sex with. And to that I say, “You can’t shame the Rebel, dog. You can’t even try.”
