ibeyiIbeyi have premiered a video for their debut single “Oya” today. Produced by XL founder Richard Russell, “Oya” is Ibeyi’s first piece of music since signing to XL Recordings and is available to purchase digitally now. It forms part of Ibeyi’s debut AA-sided single “Oya / River” out later this summer.

Ibeyi are 19 year old French Cuban twins, Naomi and Lisa-Kainde Diaz. They are daughters of the late Cuban percussion Anga Diaz.
Naomi plays percussive instruments, the Cajon and the Batas, while Lisa plays piano. Together the twins have learned the songs of their father’s culture, Yoruba.
Yoruba travelled from West Africa to Cuba with slavery in the 1700s. The Yoruba people have the highest twinning rate in the World, and twins occupy an important position within Yoruba culture. Ibeyi is pronounced “ee-bey-ee” and translates as “Twins” in Yoruba.
Ibeyi sing in English and Yoruba, and have created a minimalist sound that merges elements of their heritage with their natural love of modern music as teenagers grown up in Paris, citing artists such as Fiona Apple and King Krule amongst their wide range of influences.
Ibeyi are currently recording their debut album for XL, with Richard Russell on production.

Adele “Live At The Royal Albert Hall” Nov. 29th

Posted in News with tags , , , , on October 27, 2011 by E.N.

Adele fans won’t be seeing the British singer unfurl her tales of heartbreak in person anytime soon, as the 23-year-old is in the middle of “an extended rest period” due to a hemorrhaged vocal chord. In the meantime, Adele’s live show will be captured in “Live At The Royal Albert Hall,” a concert CD/DVD due out Nov. 29 on XL/Columbia Records.

The DVD and Blu Ray will include Adele’s full 90-minute performance from her Sept. 22 show at the Royal Albert Hall in London. The accompanying 17-track album features a mix of the singer’s “19” and “21” hits, as well as covers of Bonnie Raitt’s “I Can’t Make You Love Me” and The Steeldrivers’ “If It Hadn’t Been For Love.”

“21,” Adele’s sophomore album released in February, returns to the top spot on the Billboard 200 this week, marking its 13th week at No. 1. With 4.1 million copies sold according to Nielsen SoundScan, “21” is easily the year’s biggest-selling album, and has moved twice as many copies as the runner-up, Gaga’s “Born This Way” (1.9 million). (Billboard report)

Here is the track list for Adele’s “Live At The Royal Albert Hall”:

Hometown Glory
I’ll Be Waiting
Don’t You Remember
Turning Tables
Set Fire To The Rain
If It Hadn’t Been For Love
My Same
Take It All

I Can’t Make You Love Me

FACT mix 174 is by “one-woman orchestra” Cameron Mesirow, AKA Glasser.

Glasser is set to release her keenly anticipated debut album through True Panther / XL next month. Entitled Ring, it features contributions from Van Rivers and The Subliminal Kid, the production team behind Fever Ray’s self-titled album of last year, and includes excellent past singles ‘Tremel’ and ‘Apply’. Fans of Arthur Russell, Four Tet, Stereolab and Bjork will find much to enjoy in the album’s mellifluous electronic pop sound, which combines DIY attitude and immediacy with genuinely ambitious writing and production.

Long before the LA beat scene threatened to take over the pages of XLR8R, The Glitch Mob was turning heads with its party-starting and hip-hop-informed take on bass music. Now, on the heels of their debut album, Drink the Sea, Ooah, Boreta, and edIT have moved beyond the confines of their Southern California stomping grounds and taken their low-end rumblings to the masses. Fresh off a massive US tour, the boys put together an exclusive mix for the XLR8R podcast, right before they hit the road again for another lengthy run of dates. Much like the group’s live set, the podcast weaves through a number of different styles and artists, all unified by one dominant trait—the presence of an infectious beat.
