XLR8R Presents Sabo

Posted in Dub Step, Electro, Electronic, Hip Hop, House, XLR8R Podcast on March 3, 2009 by E.N.

NY-based DJ/producer Sabo furnishes us with the next installment of the XLR8R podcast, and for anyone who didn’t think Argentinean folk music and Big Daddy Kane could fit together, here’s a mix that should refute that idea. Sabo—who manages the Turntable Lab NYC store and also runs his own Sol*Selectas label—gathers some unlikely cuts together and take us on a trip through house, dubstep, hop-hop, baile, and more, all in just over an hour. My Friends Told Me About You -The filmmaking debut of Interpol Bassist Carlos Dengler

Posted in Movie, News on March 3, 2009 by E.N.

MY FRIENDS TOLD ME ABOUT YOU
THE FILMMAKING DEBUT OF INTERPOL BASSIST CARLOS DENGLER
TO PREMIERE IN NYC AT ANONYMOUS GALLERY APRIL 17 – MAY 5

MY FRIENDS TOLD ME ABOUT YOU is the filmmaking debut of Carlos Dengler, bassist of infamous NYC based rock band Interpol. The 26 minute short film targets the idea of celebrity as affliction and premieres in New York City at Anonymous Gallery on April 17th. Filmed around Chicago in 2007, MFTMAY charts the journey of a man at the beginning of a downward spiral. Paranoia, confusion, and anger start to color all that he knows to be true and as reality blurs with his subconscious fears, an alternate world propelled by violence and mistrust begins to take over. As sonic as it is visual, Dengler also composed the original score for MFTMAY in collaboration with acclaimed English clarinetist Ian Mitchell.

Carlos Dengler produced, stars in, and composed the original score for MY FRIENDS TOLD ME ABOUT YOU. MFTMAY is co-produced by Todd Eckert, producer of award-winning Joy Division biopic, Control, which won the 2007 Cannes award for Best European Feature.

Dengler writes:
“Making MY FRIENDS TOLD ME ABOUT YOU was a chance to explore the narrative potential of sound and spectacle. The idea was to achieve the expression of film as a composition, a tone poem of carefully selected cinematic effects and gestures.”

MY FRIENDS TOLD ME ABOUT YOU is proud to announce our debut collaboration with Anonymous Gallery in New York City. MFTMAY will premiere publicly as a video installation at Anonymous from April 17th through May 5th. Press are invited to an early screening on Thursday April 16th before the installation opens to the public. A full schedule of events surrounding the premiere will be announced in the upcoming weeks.

MY FRIENDS TOLD ME ABOUT YOU is a main feature in McSweeney’s Wholphin DVD Volume #8, due Spring 2009. Wholphin is a quarterly DVD magazine of short films published by McSweeney’s. Each issue is lovingly-encoded with two and a half hours of meticulously-selected, differently-lengthed films you can’t find anywhere else. From rare Spike Jonze documentaries to the early work of Alexander Payne, if it’s good, rare, new, or unseen, it’s on Wholphin.
“…the most relentlessly fascinating and inventive showcase for new short films
in the country.” — IFC

Don Diablo vs Mason

Posted in Crunk, Electro, Electronic, Promotions on March 3, 2009 by E.N.

we’ve got a special edit of a new Don Diablo track and a Don Diablo remix for Mason for you (high quality MP3s), which you can download through the following Mediafire links

1] “Don Diablo – Get on the floor (Don Diablo’s just begun edit)” -
This time around Don Diablo (www.myspace.com/dondiablo) brings in the bass with “Get on the floor”. Hiphouse mayhem in an exclusive edit for your ears only…! Yes, it features the same guys as Don’s hiphouse classic ”Blow” that still gets played all around the globe, also thanks to a very tasty Sébastien Léger remix! Speaking of HipHouse…also make sure you check out Don’s remix for HipHop legends Public Enemy, if you missed it before here

[2] “Mason – You Make Me Wanna Dance (Don Diablo Remix)”
Don Diablo (www.myspace.com/dondiablo) puts his remix fingerprints on Mason’s “You Make Me Wanna Dance”, making it more chunky and extra funky. Trivia: Did you know that Don Diablo was actually the guy who originally discovered & signed Mason’s “Exceeder” to his ”MOTR” label? After a year of underground support the record got licensed to the rest of the world and evil commercial demons decided to make a really cheesy music video for the song, eh sort of…
