Nervous Records – the iconic New York City house music label is about connecting the dots between the beat genre’s storied past and promising future. The latest release we have for you brings Spain’s superproducer/remixer/DJ David Tort to the United States for a unique mix that combines upfront tracks with some all time dance floor monsters resurrected especially for this compilation.

With a cache of 40 remixes spanning over a decade, the art of reworking a track is a David Tort speciality. He’s worked with many of dance music’s most respected names including Ultra Nate, Paul Jackson, David Guetta, Steve Angello, Sebastian Ingrosso, Gui Boratto (remix included on this compilation), Paul Harris, Bob Sinclar and Tiesto; adding his own choppy, minimal style to original works. When it came time to mix his own instalment of the popular Nervous Nitelife series it came as no surprise when Tort requested that the compilation feature his remixes prominently. As a result, what you have here is not just another mix of tired tracks but rather a complete package that displays Davit Tort’s skill as a blender and a remixer (plus, many of these tracks are unavailable anywhere else.).

This compilation is already getting a fair share of buzz thanks to high chart positioning for three of its tracks on Beatport. “Winx – Don’t Laugh (David Tort Remix),” Jungle Juice – “Egyptian Magician (David Tort Nitelife Rework)” and Starkillers pres Nervous Disco Dollies versus Jan Solo – “Get Up (Everybody)” are getting eaten up by visitors to the dance music retail giant. To celebrate the early success for these tracks we’re offering friends a free a very special edit of “Winx – Don’t Laugh (David Tort Remix).” It’s like an old friend you never get tired of hangin’ with.

While not a household name within the American dance community David Tort is one of the most relevant Spanish artists taking hold of the global electronic scene. His international DJ career started in 2003 and he’s played at some of the finest big room clubs like Avalon (Los Angeles, USA), Pacha NY, Space (Miami), WMC (Miami), Amnesia (Ibiza), Sun Dance Music Festival (Godskitchen, Canadá), among others. His exclusive personal style, straight to the dance floor, made him the only Spanish DJ to mix at the Playboy Mansion in Beverly Hills.

Rifoki Unleash New Horror-Inspired Video for
“Zombie Attack”

Rifoki’s Debut Live Performance Set for April 24th at The
Palladium in Hollywood

“…an incredible release composed of material that is all killer, and no filler Punk Music

hardcore sounds from two of the world’s most kick ass producers!”
Skinnie Magazine

Watch the Video for “Zombie Attack”

Rifoki have just unleashed their terrifying video for “Zombie Attack,” one of the brutal tracks from their debut EP, Sperm Donor. Rifoki is a new project from prominent DJ and Dim Mak Records founder Steve Aoki and his partner-in-crime Sir Cornelius Bob Rifo, the mastermind behind The Bloody Beetroots.

“Zombie Attack” has snarling guitars, pummeling drums, and manic vocals that are matched by equally intense visuals in the video. Flesh-eating humans, crashed military planes, and buildings set ablaze are just some of the clip’s striking images. The video’s stylized, grainy look and the iconic typeface used pay homage to classic zombie flicks.

“I’ve always been Inspired by George Romero and all the 70′ american horror movies like Dawn of the Dead,” The video’s director, Konrad Palkiewicz, explains. “When Bob told me about a song called ‘Zombie Attack’ I realized instantly that was the song for my next video.”

Though Aoki and Rifo are best known as globe-trotting, party-starting DJ’s and producers, they both grew up immersed in their local hardcore scenes. True to the spirit of punk, Sperm Donor was written and recorded spontaneously in just 5 says. Each track is a short, fast, and loud burst of raw energy that will leave you foaming at the mouth for more.

Don’t miss Rifoki’s live debut April 24th at The Palladium in Hollywood, CA!

Fela! Original Broadway Cast Recording June 8th(Video Preview)

Posted in Promotions with tags , , , , , , , , , , , on April 14, 2010 by dk

“There should be dancing in the streets! There has never been anything like this on Broadway.”Ben Brantley, The New York Times

“Riveting, surreal, hip, outstandingly sensuous!”Jennifer Farrar, Associated Press

“More than a musical. An ecstatic phenomenon!”David Cote, Time Out New York

“FELA! is glorious!”Misani, New York Amsterdam News

Knitting Factory Records is excited to announce the June 8th release of Fela! – Original Broadway Cast Recording. The record documents the magic of the hit Broadway musical that Ben Brantley of the New York Times called “hot (and seriously cool).” He went on to say that “there has never been anything on Broadway like this production,” and Elysa Gardner of USA Today called it “this decade’s most exhilirating new Broadway musical.” The album will be available for pre-release order on April 20th at
Fela! – Original Broadway Cast Recording features the incomparable Sahr Ngaujah as Fela singing with members of the irrepressibly funky Antibalas. A version featuring Kevin Mambo will be available for download and for sale at the theater. All 16 of the Fela compositions that are peformed on stage each night, leaving sold-out audiences astonished and breathless at the end of every show, are on the record as are several songs peformed by Funmalayo (Fela’s mother) as played by the Tony-award winning Lilias White, and Sandra Izadore (Fela’s American girlfriend) as played by Saycon Sengbloh. The record was produced by the Grammy-nominated Robert Sher.
“We worked incredibly hard, and have had amazing and talented people on board to create what we think is one of the hottest, sexiest, entertaining and unique Broadway experiences today,” says the show’s producer Stephen Hendel. “We’re working equally hard to make sure that’s captured in the cast record.”
Based on the life of groundbreaking African composer and performer Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, FELA! is the critically acclaimed Broadway musicalthatuses Fela’s music to explore his life as an artist, political activist and revolutionary musician.

Watch a video of the musical

Directed and choreographed by Tony® Award winner Bill T. Jones, with arrangements by Aaron Johnson and Jordan McLean, FELA!is a provocative hybrid of concert, dance and musical theatre. The cast recording captures the electricity and joy that thousands have experienced at the Eugene O’Neill Theater every night since the play opened on November 23, 2009. The record is a document of that experience, yet at the same time is a musical statement in its own right.
Says Hendel, “There are three great bands in the world that can capture this music with the thrill and intensity of Fela Kuti himself: Femi and Seun Kuti live and play in Nigeria and tour around the world; members of Antibalas live in Brooklyn. We are priviliged to have these members on our stage every night, bringing this music to a world that has, to a large extent, only recently understood what they’ve been missing.”
The tracklisting for Fela! – Original Broadway Cast Recording is below:
Everything Scatter
Yellow Fever/Ikoyi Blindness
Trouble Sleep
Teacher Don’t Teach Me Nonsese
Upside Down
Expensive Shit
Water Get No Enemy/Egbe Mi O

Deerhoof Cover LiLiPUT’s “Hitch Hike”

for Rules to Rock By Soundtrack

Rules to Rock By is a new book by author and musician Josh Farrar for young adults about fictional teen band The Bungles who’s founder Annabelle Cabrera is inspired by the very real band Deerhoof (who also make a fictional cameo at the beginning of the book!). This incredible story encourages kids to pursue music, and is accompanied by an equally amazing soundtrack with contributions by talented teen and adult musicians. It includes a cover of Swedish band LiLiPUT’s track “Hitch Hike” by Deerhoof who were happy to participate and support kids in pursuing music. Other tracks off the soundtrack feature the book’s fictional band The Bungles, performing covers and original tracks by real teen band Blame the Patient, described by The New York Times as  “effective miners of late-’80s and early-’90s indie rock with a ferocious lead guitarist, Hunter Lombard, and a kinetic lead singer, Sofie Kapur.”

More details to be announced shortly, but in the meantime enjoy the Deerhoof cover of “Hitch Hike” premiered on Pitchfork and available for free download HERE
