From Brooklyn to Barcelona; Pablo Sanchez Dishes Out Soulful Beats on New EP

Bouncing off the closely narrow building walls of Barcelona’s oldest fishing barrio, Barceloneta, comes the heavy booming soulful sounds of Pablo Sanchez. Pablo is a Venezuelan Dj & Producer who found himself traveling the World in search of good music & good waves at an early age.

His music career started in NYC in the late 90’s with a good push start from the legendary Satellite Records. In the year 2002 he created the Soul Dynamics project in Brooklyn alongside Alexi Delano and other neighborhood friends. A project focused on studio production and live performing, working with musicians from the most diverse backgrounds and styles. Apart from rocking many local venues they also performed at P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center.

After Brooklyn, he landed first in Madrid and then in Barcelona, Spain where he currently launches out to the rest of Spain & Europe DJ’ing in cities like Stockholm, Madrid,Berlin, Gijon, San Sebastian, Santiago and countless more as well as festivals like Sonar in Barcelona, Popkomm in Berlin and San Sebastian Jazz Festival “Jazzaldia” on different occasions.

His latest productions include collaborations with UK vocal sensation Colonel Red, Ethan White of Tortured Soul, Swedish future soul singer Kissey Asplund and Odnam from Venezuela’s biggest export Los Amigos Invisibles, always exploring the different shades of dance music from soul and funk to to disco, deep house and broken beats.

His releases can be heard on labels like Lovemonk Records, Justified Cause, House Cafe Music & Hi-top Records among others. Pablo will be playing again at this year’sSonar Festival as well as touring the EU & USA all summer into autumn starting off at Cielo in NY.

On the Dj side you will hear sounds from Detroit, Chicago, Brazil or NYC during any of his sets. His sessions oscillate seamlessly around electronic, funk and jazz elements, always on the uplifting side. Deep house, Disco and Afro-funk are some of his strongest influences as well as the different variations of jazz, dub and hip-hop.

A well balanced mix of forward leaning beats, rhythm and textures

Jenny Wilson Brings Hardships!

To the U.S. on August 24th

Jenny Wilson can’t quit you. The feeling could turn out to be mutual.” – Pitchfork

Already an award-winning national sensation in her homeland of Sweden, Jenny Wilson is finally ready to bring her enigmatic pop to the U.S. for the first time, with the release of Hardships! The album will be released on August 24th via Jenny’s Gold Medal Recordings label. And in preparation for her U.S. debut, Wilson is giving away “Only Here for the Fight” as a taste of her new record.

Written, recorded, and produced by Jenny in her Stockholm studio, Hardships! is a mix of Jenny’s idiosyncratic pop arrangements with raw, emotive R&B woven though out. “I wanted Hardships! to feel as simple as salt and pepper on your tongue, and as sparkling as a burning matchstick,” Jenny says. On tracks such as “Like a Fading Rainbow” and “Bad Waters,” Jenny builds modern day spirituals off unique instrumentation including harps, marimbas, synths, and her own multi-tracked vocals, a la Björk’s Medulla. This breathtakingly beautiful album also features vocals from other like-minded songstresses like Mapei on tracks “Pass Me The Salt” and “Motherhood,” and El Perro Del Mar on “Anchor Made of Gold,” a track Pitchfork called “a remarkably even-tempered gospel ballad with a creamy choral arrangement.”

This uncompromising and fiercely independent artist made her first foray into the U.S. music scene at this past fall’s CMJ Music Marathon at Levi’s/FADER Fort, performing an awe-inspiring set to a stunned crowd, prompting The FADER to say that those lucky individuals in attendance can brag “to have witnessed the future-legendary Jenny Wilson’s first show in the United States.” Yet those with a keen ear may recognize her voice from a guest spot on The Knife’s break-out album Deep Cuts. The Knife also released her 2005 debut solo album Love and Youth on their Swedish imprint, Rabid Records. The following year she teamed up with fellow Swedish pop sensation, Robyn, on The Rakamonie EP which includes the two doing a dueling-keys live rendition of Saul Williams “List of Demands.”

Jenny will be touring the US early fall in support of the release, but will be making an earlier visit to NYC June 28th for a few days of special shows . More details on both US stints to be announced shortly!

New Astor Bell Release! Socket Science – Ephedra (ASTOR013)free download

Socket Science – Ephedra
Cat. No: ASTOR013
Release Date: 2010-05-24
1. Ephedra
2. A Friend of the Family
3. Silent Fight

Download HERE
Compared to the more playful debut, Socket Science slows things down on the follow up Ephedra. Three dark, distorted and long jams that focus on the lower frequencies yet remain true to the core idea, being Robot Music with Soul.

It’s easy to envision lined up drones doing their monotonic labour in dirty factories. However, these pieces of music also carry the reverberation of their children playing on the school yard across the street, as well as the moans and squeaks of the community elders in need of an oil tin refreshment. Everyone’s invited, everyone plays a part.

And not to forget; all these influences and emotions are packed upon a quite steady and bouncy beat. Do your club a favor and spin it.
