Summery, funny and just generally Boy Better Knowery, this video puts the bra into brap. Though not in the way you might hope . . .

Google Music Downloads Coming Soon,Subscription Next

Posted in News with tags , , , on June 23, 2010 by J.D.

In what could prove to be a welcomed move for music labels, Google Inc. is planning to release a music download service that’s tied to its search engine later this year. The Wall Street Journal is also reporting that Google will introduction of an online subscription music service sometime in 2011.  Many hope that this will cause Apple’s dominant market position to be shaken.

Initially, it’s expected that Google’s music service will permit fans searching for music in their engine to be linked directly to a Google store where they could then buy and download tracks.  It is believed that the store would enable Google to position themselves in as a cloud-based subscription service, allowing users to stream music directly from the internet to their mobile phones.(hypebot report)

Röyksopp new album Senior 13th September

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , on June 23, 2010 by J.D.

Röyksopp are set to release the counterpart to last year’s critically acclaimed Junior album on the 13th September. More introspective and freeform than its poppier partner and fully instrumental, the Nordic electronic pioneers Svein Berge and Torbjorn Brundtland recorded Senior at the same time as Junior and it finds Royksopp in fine form.

Royksopp explain:

The two albums (’Junior’ and ‘Senior’) have a kinship, in that they represent Röyksopp’s two very different artistic expressions. ‘Junior’ – with emphasis on vocals, accessible melodies and harmonies, has the energy, the inquisitive temper and confident “hey-ho, let’s go!”-attitude of youth, whereas ‘Senior’ is the introverted, dwelling and sometimes graceful counterpart – brimfull with dark secrets and distorted memories, insisting “I’m old, I’ve got experince…”. Senior’ is furthermore an album about age, horses and being subdued – with devils breathing down your neck.

Senior was written as a complete set of tracks, each designated to take a specific part in the bigger piece. All individual tracks have been made with the intent of coexisting with the other tracks on the album.

Each track is equally as important as its predecessor and successor. We feel that none of the tracks should be regarded outside of this context, ie. separated from the rest of the album. Quite a “brave”/stupid thing to do in this day & age of iPods and cherrypicking, one might suggest. We couldn’t agree more – hell that’s even probably why we did it.

Senior is forthcoming 13th September on Wall Of Sound UK, PIAS Europe, EMI Scandinavia & Japan, USA TBA.

Album tracklisting:
1. …And The Forest Began To Sing
2. Tricky Two
3. The Alcoholic
4. Senior Living
5. The Drug
6. Forsaken Cowboy
7. The Fear
8. Coming Home
9. A Long, Long Way

BBE presents DJ Deep – City2City Vol. 3

Posted in News, Promotions with tags , , , , , , , , on June 23, 2010 by J.D.

City to City 3 – DJ Deep’s Journey Through Chicago, Detroit And New York’s Secret House Gems
Released: 2010-07-12

This is definitely not a ‘Classic House compilation’ but more a very personal selection of older and newer tracks that have a very special place in DJ Deep’s heart and his record box.
DJ Deep says: “The idea behind City to City volume 3 is to say the spirit of House is still there in many Dancers, Music lovers and Producer’s hearts.”
This album evokes the ‘golden days’ of ‘house’ through the senses of DJ Deep. Those who have partied under the disco balls at legendary clubs such as The Music Box, The Warehouse, The Hacienda, are likely to have house flashbacks. Those who haven’t will be startled to hear an avalanche of ethereal dance music, which will make you ache for your disco dancing shoes.

Introducing … Megan McCormick – Honest Words ( August 17th)+ “Things Change” MP3

Posted in News, Promotions with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on June 23, 2010 by J.D.

Ryko / Warner Music Group -newcomer Megan McCormick releasing her debut record, Honest Words, on August 17th. Think 23-year-old, guitar-slinging reincarnation of Bonnie Raitt (with an equally awesome hair-do) who croons with a soulful, pop-infused spirit reminiscent of Dusty Springfield.

“Things Change” is a track from Megan’s forthcoming debut. The song is an uplifting kiss-off that showcases how Megan’s vocals and guitar skills boldly play off one another.

Honest Words was produced by GRAMMY Award-winner Dave O’Donnell (John Mayer, Joss Stone, James Taylor). Megan’s recently toured with the likes of Amos Lee and Matt Nathanson and this past weekend joined Vanessa Carlton and other musicians at Nashville Pride, which drew a crowd of over 18,000. She is touring throughout the rest of the summer.(see below for more)

INTRODUCING MEGAN MCCORMICK: RYKO ANNOUNCES NEW ARTIST SIGNING

Ryko is proud to announce the signing of 23 year-old singer-songwriter and guitarist Megan McCormick. Born in Idaho and raised in Alaska, McCormick left home at the tender age of 16 and headed to Tennessee after receiving the coveted Public Performance Scholarship at East Tennessee State University. In very short time, McCormick became an integral part of the young, independent singer/songwriter community in Nashville, garnering respect for her exceptional songwriting, beautiful vocal style and virtuoso guitar playing. McCormick is currently putting the final touches on her debut Ryko album, which is being produced and mixed by Grammy Award-winner Dave O’Donnell (James Taylor, John Mayer, Aaron Neville, Keb’ Mo’) slated for release this summer.

Ruby Marchand, head of A&R for Ryko, states “I initially heard about Megan through my colleagues at Warner Nashville and BMI. I was intrigued that she was equally praised for her songwriting, her voice, her guitar skills, and her live performances. When I saw her play at a small venue in Nashville, I knew I was in the presence of an exceptional artist. Megan is a signature talent and we warmly welcome her to the Ryko family.”

Raised in Alaska by jazz musicians, McCormick’s background set the stage for a career in music. She grew up listening to the likes of Bonnie Raitt and Steely Dan, but her most essential influences were from her family. “Watching and listening to them was life-changing,” notes McCormick. She started singing and picked up her first guitar at age 9, delving into a variety of styles, from blues to folk to alt-country, until finding her own personal style. She also plays the lap-steel, mandolin and bass and writes all of her own music. McCormick has won two International Bluegrass Music Association Awards for Recorded Event of the Year in 2006 (“Back To The Well”) and again in 2009 (“Proud To Be A Daughter of Bluegrass”) — both for a special Daughters of Bluegrass project. This past year, she also landed her song, “Bullseye”, in the Emmy-Award nominated film, Prayers for Bobby, featuring Sigourney Weaver.

From pensive and intimate ballads to rock n’ roll to indie-pop, she describes her sound today as “unique, well-rounded and genuine.” McCormick adds “My songs reflect a deep look inward as well as the world around me. I find inspiration sometimes in my guitar, on a street corner, or even in a lover. The new album will touch on love, family, addiction and the never-ending search for self-understanding.”
