It’s taken 39 releases to come full circle, but after debuting on Thoughtless with our inaugural EP, Brooklyn’s Derek Marin is finally back in the fold with “While She Sleeps” – and it was definitely worth the wait.

How deep can a track be yet still maintain undeniably wide appeal? Derek explores just that with his title track, a breathless deep house stunner sure to send shivers through even the hottest summer dance floors. A rather large bass line carries the track forward, inviting everyone into the rhythm with its subsonic bounce, as resonant chords set the tone for the iconic melody to unfurl in the break: pure magic.

Pete Grove enters the fray with not one but two solid remixes, the first employing subtle latin percussion to impel the original’s housier elements with enhanced drive and focus – while the second favors his trademark buzzing synth cuts to give it a slight electro feel.

“Rakimuse” constitutes the flip side, melding addictive low-end rhythms with swirling chords and mysterious female intonations for yet another burner.

Finally, Derek reinterprets “Rakimuse” under his own Modest D alias, highlighting dubby edges while adding a haunting Rhodes line for a somewhat muted yet no less potent affair, perfect for the end of a long night out.

If she’s sleeping through this, I hope she’s having amazing dreams – because she’s got no idea what she’s missing…

Released on 12″ Vinyl / Digital on 5th July 2010.
Following on from their own EP, the latest offering from Hanuman and Atki2′s Steak House imprint sees Baobinga, Poirier and a host of MCs join the Steak House Family. STEAK 003 sees the label moving into bashment territory with the original Bass Music badman Baobinga serving up three prime cuts of juicy vocal raggastep. Backed by a remix by Karnival king Poirier, this record is crammed full of party heat. Sam Baobinga has been one of the most important producers on the British Music Scene over the last five years. With releases on labels such as Soul Jazz, Ninja Tune and Positiva as well as his own Build imprint and remixes for artists like Guru, The Ragga Twins, and The Wu Tang Clan, Baobinga has consistently reinvented and reshaped his sound and stayed several steps ahead of the game. This release sees ‘Binga push his heavy ‘raggastep’ sound; bass heavy vocal bashment with a nod to the lush full synth sounds of future garage and featuring original voicings by some of the UK’s hottest MCs. Jimmy Edgar new album ‘XXX’+ free fabric download Hot Raw Sex

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , , , , , on June 27, 2010 by E.N.

Detroit-born artist Jimmy Edgar will release his next album, XXX, this summer on !K7.

(download)Jimmy Edgar – Hot Raw Sex (via Fabric)
‘Hot Raw Sex’ is taken from Jimmy Edgar’s forthcoming ‘XXX’ album on !K7 Records.

Since he got his start in 2001, Edgar has dabbled in pop and electronic music simultaneously, releasing records on Warp and Moodgadget while remixing tracks like Will Smith’s “Miami” and Michael Jackson’s “Billy Jean.” Edgar’s own music reflects this duality, with Daft Punk-esque production backing flamboyant, funk-inspired vocals ala Prince or Jamiroquai.

XXX shows Edgar continuing on this same path. The track “Hot, Raw, Sex” lives up to its name, and although other titles like “New Touch” and “Turn You Inside Out” suggest a generally worked-up release, Edgar names “celibacy, love and loss” as the album’s inspiring factors, along with “a myriad of intense relationships.” XXX was recorded mostly on analog equipment at Edgar’s home studio, and finished digitally. The album’s first single will see release on June 21st, and will mark Edgar’s debut on !K7.
