Scorn -Refuse; Start Fires LP [Ohm Resistance]

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , , , , , on August 12, 2010 by dk

Scorn’s fourteenth full length release remains in the vibe and tempo of modern dubstep while adding a brand new element to the Scorn sound: a live drummer, Ian ‘Yan’ Treacy. The vibrant sounds of the kit are run thru the filters and dub wizardry of Mick Harris, former drummer of Napalm Death and Guinness World Record Holder for composer of the world’s shortest song.

The tracks are a journey into dark atmospheres and atomic warhead bass, with more variation and hue than 2007′s ‘STEALTH’. Yet on ‘Refuse; Start Fires’ Harris has returned to painting angry pictures with more colours than simply black – the record takes on new territory at the 70 bpm mark, and the live kit gives the tracks a more fluid groove than ever in places. But this is Scorn, and Scorn delivers darkness and anger like no one else, with merciless cuts such as Bear Felt Nowt and Shitwind’s A-Coming providing harsh atmospheres and endurance test bass wobble like only Mick Harris can dish out.

Scorn is an entity – for over 15 years Mick Harris has not relented with the project’s dubbed out beats, film noir atmospheres, and over the top bass compulsions. ‘Refuse; Start Fires’ is perhaps the angriest and most well articulated of his projects in the last decade.

The Bloody Beetroots Announce Tour With Live Band

The Bloody Beetroots Announce Fall Tour

With Live Band

First U.S. Extended Tour with:

The Bloody Beetroots DeathCrew 77!

After a brief break from DJ sets around the world, Italian producer and polymath Sir Bob Cornelius Rifo, a.k.a. The Bloody Beetroots, is preparing to launch his latest U.S. tour this October. For the first time, Rifo will be joined for the extended tour by a full band: Bloody Beetroots DeathCrew 77. Stepping out from behind the mixers, Rifo now plays guitar, bass, and synths and is joined on stage by Tommy Tea on controllers and the Beetroots’ newest member Edward Grinch on drums. The new live setup is a dramatic reinterpretation of the Beetroots’ music and the ultimate marriage of the band’s love of grinding electronic melodies, aggressive hardcore punk, and elaborate compositions.
Check out the band Live at La Cigale as well as their new video for “Domino” for a sample of The Bloody Beetroots DeathCrew 77.
Since bursting onto the scene in 2007, The Bloody Beetroots have brought a sense of danger to dance floors across the globe. From “Butter” to “Cornelius” to the Steve Aoki assisted “Warp 1.9,” The Bloody Beetroots’ early singles dominated clubs across the globe, paving the way for the group’s debut full-length Romborama. Released in August 2009 on Dim Mak, the record blended lines between house, techno, hip-hop, hardcore punk, and even at times orchestral compositions (Rifo spent years studying composers like Chopin, Beethoven, and Debussy, after all)Romborama was a star-studded affair that featured guest appearances from everyone from Justin Pearson (The Locust, All Leather) and Vicarious Bliss to The Cool Kids and J*DaVeY. The record was followed by the Spares of Romborama Series, which included Xmas Vendetta and The Domino EP. Around this time, Bob recruited Tommy Tea to help him out on the road, and the DJ duo toured the world with one of the most raucous and energetic live shows out there. In between touring, releasing two EPs, and dropping a full length album, Sir Bob Cornelius Rifo managed to collaborate with Steve Aoki to rework The Refused’s legendary track, “New Noise.”
And now with the formation of the The Bloody Beetroots DeathCrew 77, the band is evolving once again. In many ways, Bob is returning to his punk roots. Prior to his work as The Bloody Beetroots, Bob’s labor of love was Bob Rifo’s Gang, an electro-punk band he formed in 2005. Rifo also spent much of the last year recording and performing with Steve Aoki as a part of their hardcore side-project, Rifoki. It’s these influences that have bled into the Beetroots’ new live setup, and is a projection of where the band is heading.

About Dim Mak: Dim Mak started in 1996 as a whim and became a lifestyle. Launching with a 7″ from obscure SoCal hardcore ensemble Stickfigurecarousel, Dim Mak’s roster grew to include bands outside of hardcore and punk to garage rock and roll, disco punk, new wave, whatever it is that is explosive. The roster is a large and expanding one. There is no particular genre of music they corner other than what they know feels right. The point being is to just to release what they think is good regardless of style, which they have done again and again over the past 13 years.

UNKLE – The Answer EP(incl.Lupe Fiasco), US Tour and New Videos

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , on August 12, 2010 by dk

Available 9/28 on Surrender All Featuring Tracks With Lupe Fiasco & Tim Goldsworthy; Performances In LA, NYC, SF, Mexico City, Guadalajara

Starring Ray Winstone & Directed By John Hillcoat; Watch Them @ UNKLE.COM

UNKLE returns September 28 with the six song ‘The Answer’ EP which includes two new songs, a collaboration with hip-hop prodigy Lupe Fiasco and a remix by original UNKLE member Tim Goldsworthy. Pre-order ‘The Answer’ EP limited edition 12″ vinyl and limited edition CD now at In support of the release of The Answer EP, UNKLE will be embarking on their first US appearances in several years at select cities in the US and Mexico during the month of October. Pre-sale tickets available via starting Wednesday, Aug 18 at 12 pm EST. General public on sale is Friday, August 20 at 12 pm EST.

The hip-hop reworking of ‘The Runaway’ off UNKLE’s most recent album ‘Where Did The Night Fall’ sees Lupe Fiasco rhyming with an untouchable, laid-back cool as splintered synths and a shuddering bass-line envelope around him. Original UNKLE member, Tim Goldsworthy (LCD Soundsystem/DFA), morphs the subtle, desert-scorched previous single ‘Follow Me Down’ into a breathless, urgent 8-minute epic. The cinematic ‘Separate Half’ featuresSan Francisco quartet Lumerians with vocals by Rebecca Coseboom. Pulsating and airy, ‘Separate Half’ takes listeners on a journey passing through kaleidoscope worlds. The quiet, dusty lament of ‘Country Tune’ builds to become vast and expansive in scope, anchored by fragile vocal from UNKLE collaborator Gavin Clark.

‘The Answer’ EP served as a catalyst for inspiring a variety of high profile and creative artists to make works of art, video, fashion which will be exhibited at James Lavelle’s pop-up art exhibition ‘Daydreaming with…James Lavelle’ at Haunch Of Venison gallery in London, 27 – 30 August.

To accompany the release of ‘The Answer’ EP, UNKLE unveil two music videos. Acclaimed film director John Hillcoat, whose last major motion picture feature was the critically heralded ‘The Road’, directs the first of two videos for ‘The Answer’. His vision begins with Ray Winstone (The Departed, Sexy Beast, Cold Mountain) relaying a memory from years past. It is a provocative anecdote and an intimate snapshot of an event that changed the actor’s life. Wrapped up in the all-encompassing reach of the song, a kaleidoscopic slide show then screens a series of fantastical, psychedelic images, some bleached and distorted, some drenched in hyper-visual colours, all whilst Winstone narrates.
The second video is directed by Ross Cairns and features footage from the Relentless ‘Lives Of The Artists’ documentaries of legendary snowboard free-riders Jeremy Jones and Xavier De Le Rue who climb and ride near vertical faces of the harsh Antarctic plus surfers Tom Lowe and Fergal Smith in Tahiti where they ride one of the world’s most revered heavy waves: Teahupoo, (known locally as ‘Wall of Skulls). The highly anticipated new installment, ‘Lives Of The Artists: Follow Me Down” premiering this September profiles James Lavelle with music scored by UNKLE.

Sian – Dreams Are Maps (Remixes)

Sian – Dreams Are Maps
1. Original Mix
2. Paul Woolford’s Wax Treatment
3. Paul Woolford’s Waxed Out Dub
4. Sian’s Treasure Mix
(Bedrock Digital) Beddigi06
Beatport Exclusive: 16/08/10

Sian’s feverish style and raw sound brings real voodoo to the dancefloor and his trademark aesthetics are hard to match. The energetic ‘Dreams Are Maps’, which appears on John Digweed’s critically acclaimed new ‘Structures’ mix compilation, now receives its own single release complete with a brand spanking new rework by Sian himself and two stripped back treatments from We Love… Space resident Paul Woolford.

Regarded as one of the most promising upcoming acts in the techno scene today, Sian is already touring the world, rocking heaving crowds and bringing his trademark experimental DJing style to the masses via multiple outputs of explosive techno,fx and loops, cut up and edited live. His tracks instantly catch the ears of everyone from John Digweed, Laurent Garnier, Luciano, Richie Hawtin, Sasha, Loco Dice, Steve Bug to Carl Cox, Secret Cinema, Hernan Cattaneo, Dubfire, and have shown how a genre busting talent crosses over stylistic boundaries with ease. That is why he is so suited to the Bedrock label, with its forward-thinking music policy.

When you have interests ranging from entomology, cosmology and marine biology to psychoacoustics and the social impact of the rave generation, you tend to make unusual art. Born in Dublin, Ireland, raised gypsy style in southern Spain and constantly moving from city to city, Sian chose early to drop out of normal society, make music and DJ. Adhering more to the avant-garde way of life, he stands out as a little more bohemian than the average electronic artist, a rare, flamboyant and eccentric new talent, and one we would urge you to investigate further. Sian is a truly diverse and original talent.

STOP PRESS: Catch Sian exclusively in the mix on John Digweed’s Transitions radio show next week!

Jack Sparrow debut album Circadian on Tectonic 4Th October 2010

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on August 12, 2010 by dk

Rising Leeds star Jack Sparrow launches his debut LP ‘Circadian’, following previous faultless Tectonic tribalistic anthems ‘The Chase’ and ‘Terminal’. Following in the footsteps of 2562, label boss Pinch and Cyrus (Random Trio), Sparrow is one the few dubstep producers capable of making the leap from hard-hitting 12″ dancefloor releases to full length album.

As the restrained 4/4 kick drum of opening track ‘Loveless’ pounds in, warming chords rise up, and snatches of soulful vocal cuts chime in over building drum layers – you already know you’re headed for an involving journey with this album. Fans of Mala, Martyn, Quest and Silkie will feel at home with the vibe of the opening track, yet Sparrow takes things in his own direction with a sound that combines elements of deep house with a tribal side of dubstep.

The vibe switches then for ‘Dread’ – a collaboration with fellow Leeds based producer Ruckspin – a dark, cold ragga-techno rhythm before Sparrow breathes new life into his original Tectonic tribal anthem, with a VIP version of ‘The Chase’. ‘Salvation’ continues with a voodoo laden tribal theme, taking things into slightly more tech-y territories before we hear a fresh take on ‘Terminal’.

‘Shoal’ pulls back a little on the pace, venturing into new territories as technology battles with organic sounds. Next up the sweet sounds of vocalist Indi Kaur (who sang on Pinch’s ‘Angels In The Rain’) meet with Sparrow’s adept production skills for a soulful meander in the endearing ‘Subterranean’ – a lighter touch on the LP.

‘Dune’ takes things back into a more sinister world, with its lunging half-step rhythm and earthquake sub bass and ethno-decentralised atmospherics. ‘Relapse’ kicks in at 160bpm, Jack Sparrow demonstrating his prowess as a highly versatile producer with this “autonomic” take on his dubstep sounds – highly rhythmical whilst pushing forward the technological boundaries of sound. ‘Regress’ keeps with the uptempo bpm but steps back the pressure, allowing for memories of the early days of ambient jungle to seep in.

Pause for a deep breath as the final track, ‘Exit’, gently delivers you out of the ‘Circadian’ journey. A unique track that warms your heart and chills your bones simultaneously, and lets you float off fully satisfied.

‘A circadian rhythm is a roughly 24-hour cycle in the biochemical, physiological, or behavioural processes of living entities.’

Album Launch: Friday 17th September @ Fabric, London | |
