‘The other week Cio D’or delivered one of the best mixes of 2010 with her stunning podcast for RA. Part of the reason it is so good is that Cio put so much time and effort into it. Something like this was not just ‘another mix’ for her: it was a document, it was a record of something. Simply put, it mattered. Cio put a huge amount of care into creating something special. As part of that process she created a number of versions of the mix. The one that was decided upon was 1 hour 16 minutes long. Lucky for everybody, Cio is now making available the extended version of the mix, which clocks in 1 hour 42 minutes. There are two main differences: (1) You get an extra half an hour of peak time. Cio really goes for the jugular on this one, and (2) It is 320kbps. Having listened to both versions, I much prefer the longer one. I’m super happy Cio is letting everyone hear it. Thanks!

Released: 2010-08-30

Producer and DJ, Richy Pitch moved from UK to Ghana, West Africa and took on the challenge to record an LP which drew on his many musical experiences during his stay. His goal was to record with local stars and talent and fuse the classic sound of Ghanaian music with his own production skills that he’d already developed in London.

Two years later and back to London, Richy knocked on BBE Records’ door to deliver Ye Fre Mi Richy Pitch. (They call me Richy Pitch in Twi)

His creation gives the listener an excellent taste of the many different styles of Ghanaian and West African music from Highlife, Hiplife to Afrobeat to traditional percussion music, all combined with a fresh production twist.

It features the cream of Ghanaian music talent including MOBO and MTV Africa winner Samini, Reggie Rockstone, known as the Godfather of Hiplife and talented MC’s such as Wanlov the Kubolor, M3NSA and M.anifest, plus many other i! nspiring Ghanaian artists.

Eskimo Twins – ‘Judas/Droid EP’ by nathantayloronline

The new EP from Wax:On Music sets out Eskimo Twins musical manifesto.

What you get from the duo is a sophisticated musicality reinforced with their love for acid, disco, electro, and pop; as anybody who has witnessed their DJ sets will tell you.

Taking influence from the likes of DJ Pierre, Giorgio Moroder and Kraftwerk, this 2-track electro meets techno meets disco cut; their second for Wax:On Music, follows the Eskimo Twins policy to the letter.
Lead track ‘Judas’ waits a good four minutes before betraying it’s deep, chugging techno origins with a sophisticated turn-around, transforming events with throbs of nu-wave electro disco. It displays a fleeting glimpse of brightness before you find yourself back in murkier depths of analogue techno, with only the squelches and zaps holding a torch to guide you. With its bobbing 808 toms, human claps and disco-arp basslines, ‘Judas’ delivers an unfolding and irresistible groove.

‘Droid’ on the flip, is tribal metal drums meets guttural, noisy synths overdriven through a wall of guitar amps. This is Sepultura and Pantera filtered through the Twin’s synthesizer laboratory and primed for warehouse raving.Stripped back beats, angry, piercing top lines and acid tweaks give way to raucous drops and wobbly basslines, showing the Twins love of noise.

On the EP both ‘Judas’ and ‘Droid’ get a solid remix treatment. Justin Robertson serves up a live disco re-rub of ‘Judas’ under his Deadstock 33s moniker, Turbo resident Matt Walsh produces a deep and dark 4am techno version and The Sonic Emporium applys gentle but nostalgic beats, spaced-out pads and warm synths. On ‘Droid’, self-confessed noise-maker, Ado makes a welcome contribution with a peaks n’ tweaks electro-house banger; leaving it to RipTidE to further toughen things up with his hard-electro grind as an alternative.

Eskimo Twins music can count heavy hitters like Alex Gropher, Streetlife DJs plus Radios 1’s Zane Lowe, and Kissy Sellout amongst their supporters.Versatile and uncompromised DJ sets have seen them rewarded with a 2010 residency at Ibiza’s premiere ‘rock meets rave’ club-night, ‘Reclaim the Dancefloor’ alongside a number of summer festival appearances.

Now, with ‘Judas / Droid’ primed to hit download stores in September, Eskimo Twins continue to shape themselves as one of underground’s most wanted.

‘Judas / Droid’ by Eskimo Twins is on full release 6th September 2010 on Wax:On Music
