PVT’s Single ‘Window’ from their new album Church With No Magic, puts singer Richard Pike’s vocals at the forefront for the first time and is typical of the dense collisions of PVT’s sound world. It’s a heady combination of vocal experimentation, swirling keyboard arpeggios and pounding drums, all topped by the band’s adeptness for emotive harmony and clear melodic punch, distilled into three minutes.

Two very talented artists have remixed the track & these remixes have been made available for free download. They are:

Suspending the frenetic urgency of PVT’s original concept, Austrian beat professor Dorian Concept holds ‘Window’ in a kaleidoscopic: seemingly pulling apart the song from the tape it was recorded on and filling the gaps with the flittering modal-jazz warmth he lent to Flying Lotus on Cosmogramma, their Brainfeeder collaboration and previous remixes for Jamie Lidell & Three 6 Mafia.

Danimals is the first Australian act to sign to Stones Throw Records. The US indie label famous for it’s underground hip hop signings is home to Madlib, Mayer Hawthorne, Dam-Funk and others.

Danimals got a major profile boost when their song is used for a national TV advertising campaign. The song was written and recorded with help from a bunch of new friends including producer Mark Ronson, Santigold and Sean Lennon in New York.

“There’s pop elements on Church With No Magic, but its integration into the band’s electronically damaged sound is what makes them succeed. They’ve run out of letters to remove from their name, but PVT are just getting started when it comes to good ideas.” Pitchfork

“Brilliantly ambitious… bravely genre-defying…Church with No Magic has alchemy in spades” **** Timeout

“PVT don’t cower at the feet of their influences so much as stand shoulder to shoulder with them. They may be Pivot no more, but they’re turning heads – and for all the right reasons.” 8/10 NME

“PVT: Band to Watch.” STEREOGUM

“Church With No Magic’ oozes tone and seepes ethereal textures like a leaking roof. A hit from dystopia’s jukebox.” LOUD + QUIET 9/10

Download: FACT mix 179 – Mogwai

This Friday’s FACT mix is the work of Scottish post-rock legends Mogwai.

Formed in Falkirk in 1995, Mogwai this week released their first live package, taking in a concert recording, Special Moves and a DVD companion, Burning. It marks fourteen years of existence for the band, whose early albums Young Team and Come On Die Young represent some of the most influential music of the era – taking the long-form instrumentals of Louisville’s Slint, and injecting them with a very human, and very British melancholy and sense of humour, looking to their peers Arab Strap as well as the likes of The Cure and Fugazi for inspiration. Later in the decade, Mogwai would work with Andrew Weatherall, Alec Empire, The Manic Street Preachers and more.

The noughties would see Mogwai continue to hone their sound, reaching new peaks with tracks like ‘Glasgow Mega Snake’ and ‘Auto Rock’, while also moving into soundtracking, working with Clint Mansell on Darren Aronofsky’s The Fountain and most notably, providing the score for Zidane: A 21st Century Portrait, the film study of French football legend Zinedine Zidane.

Mogwai’s FACT mix was made by long-term member Barry Burns, and features The Fall, Fad Gadget, Tuxedomoon and more – you can read an interview with him about the mix and recent Mogwai goings on over the page. Special Moves / Burning is out now.
