Don’t Mean To Be Rude is the third single from South African artist, Spoek Mathambo’s debut album Mshini Wam. The video features the booty-crazed rapper locked in a weird basement with the devil and his dominatrix sidekicks (played by Johannesburg’s grimiest erotic dancers) ; a rigged dice match and some obscure feeder games.
It’s common knowlege that whenever someone starts a sentence with the phrase, ‘I don’t mean to be rude’, you should brace yourself for some low down and dirty rudeness or run for the hills.
Here, Spoek Mathambo brings the rudeness via an accelerated skank courtesy of London bass rangers LV (most widely known for their genre defying releases on Hyperdub). Canadian avant soul singer Zaki Ibrahim plays the co-conspirator on the bassy nugget adding something sweet to Spoek’s gutter mouth party song.

ABOUT SPOEK MATHAMBO
Part of a new breed of African artists, 25 year old Spoek Mathambo (Rapper/DJ and Graphic Designer/Illustrator) is hitting the world hard with his take on Afro-futurism. Spoek sees himself as a part of a new wave of energy in Africa, which is intent on nurturing a sense of progressiveness while maintaining a pride in culture. Spoek Mathambo has become a increasingly prominent figure in the international music scene over the last couple of years, with features on Boysnoize Records, Potty Mouth Music, Top Billin Records, Man Recordings as well as for his electro-rap groups Playdoe and Sweat.X. Most recently, Spoek Mathambo has finished recording his solo album, Mshini Wam for BBE, and has built a live band to tour the project. The release of this project is particularly exciting as a sign to the world of what Africa has in store in terms of progressive electronic music. As a DJ, Spoek’s HIVIP project of promoting South African music has gathered widespread attention as far afield as the New York Times and Fader Magazine, and has seen him DJ in USA, Argentina, Norway, France, Sweden and Germany.
September 2010 saw the release of Mshini Wam.
