The Gift has been making waves all over Europe for the past two months, with the overseas release of their new album, Explode, which will be getting a U.S. release in September (release details coming soon). The band spent several weeks at the top of the Portuguese charts, and now they have a beautiful new video for “RGB” to share with the world! The Gift will also be heading to New York City, where they’ll headline Bowery Ballroom on
June 14th, with special guests Xylos opening up!
The Gift may be a new to some, but many already know the psychedelic synth-pop group. The band has been together since 1994, and they toured the U.S. with The Flaming Lips in 2003. This year they return to the United States, bringing us their amazing new album, Explode, which was produced by Ken Nelson.
The band, considering that they’re one of the top-selling artists in Portugal (and Europe!), is incredibly DIY. Made up of brothers John and Nuno Gonçalves, and rounded out by Miguel Ribeiro and their amazingly versatile lead singer Sónia Tavares, the band manages themselves, finances their own recordings, and produces some of the most visually-stunning live shows around.
Let us know if you’d like to come check out the band at Bowery Ballroom on June 14th, they’re definitely a band you need to see live…after seeing them in Lisbon and Madrid recently, we can testify to this firsthand!
