Download:Ancient Astronauts “Anti Pop Song” (TimeWarp Inc Remix)ESL Music

Kabanjak and Dogu, aka Ancient Astronauts, hailing from Cologne/Germany are back with a heavy load of remixes on The Orion Nebula Remixes, out on April 10, 2012. After the release of internationally critically acclaimed album Into Bass And Time (their second album for ESL Music) they joined forces with some of their favorite producers and remixers, which resulted in a roster full of quality remixes.

The selection of fine reinterpretations starts with a funked up boom bap remix of Oblivion feat. Azeem & DJ Zeph by Chicago based producer Maker (from the group Qwel & Maker), which is full of Indian influences and features fat rocking drums.

This is followed up by Kabanjak himself doing an epic drum heavy version of Peace In The East, which leaves a lot of room for beautiful strings performed by UK string duo, Entropik.

Then comes a remix by Emch from Subatomic Sound System in New York City who will blow your speakers with its big bass. This remix is an up-tempo version of Give It To You feat. Monsoon.

And while speaking of bass we present you DC residents Second Sky & Thomas Blondet who give Calvert Street Rock a fresh new Dub outfit that puts the Melodica in the spotlight of this song. The original version is a homage to ESL Music & Thievery Corporation headquarters (located on Calvert Street in Washington DC) and to Augustus Pablo (who brought the Melodica to the attention of Reggae lovers worldwide).

Kabanjak´s more Afro and Latin dedicated project Deela (on Switchstance Recordings) comes up next with a more up-tempo broken beat remix of Anti Pop Song, bringing you a contagious bass-heavy groove for the dancefloor.

Next up is longtime friend and collaborator DJ Brace, who is one of Canada´s finest scratchers and producers who did all the cuts on the Ancient Astronauts album Into Bass And Time, on Kabanjak´s solo album Tree Of Mystery and he remixed Classic feat. The Pharcyde from AA´s debut album We Are To Answer. His remix of Still A Soldier shows of his fine skills as a producer and DJ with his trademark style of warm and tight beats combined with killer scratches. To round up this remix and give it a real organic feel Brace invited some friends to his studio to add Kora (Zal Sissokho) and Darbuka (Guillaume Fouquet). The result is full of beautiful harmonies with forward rocking beats and scratches.

Bay Area resident and eclectic beats & grooves maestro J-Boogie is the next in line. J chose to remix the song Last Night feat. Akua Naru and added some lush Latin flavor and deep bass, which give room for Akua´s lyrics to flower out through this beautiful song.

To round up this release and pay dues to all the beat-addicted Hip Hop and Funk heads in the world we added the instrumental version of the Maker Remix for Oblivion.

Nottingham’s Mimm Recordings present another hidden gem from the UK’s electronic music scene with Bristolian Ooko making his debut release on the label. With his first major introduction to the scene being through a track called Understand on a free compilation from the label last year, he’s now ready to unleash the cheekily titled Sex Sells EP which references a wide spectrum of dance music from House to Jungle and beyond.

Opening up with a raucous and utterly rhythmic ode to early 90’s Jungle with pitched down breakbeat drum patterns and brutal percussion fading in and out for the duration, Downtown has an unrelenting thump that is sure to rattle a few club monitors in the months to come. The vocal sample of Downtown is looped throughout the track and only expands during the breakdown to increase the tension for the second drop which nods to the stylings of Addison Groove and Machinedrum et al.

Fellow Bristolians My Nu Leng lend their production skills to a remix of title track Sex Sellswhich falls more into broken Techno territory with it’s crisp percussion and erratic arrangement. A more up-tempo effort that the original, it sees the the duo add their harder edged Dubstep-influence into the tracks pores. The original of Sex Sells is a far more patient affair and possesses the seductive slo-mo Bristol House bounce that has been so ubiquitous as of late. Low-end basslines compliment the groove whilst the delayed synths towards the tracks climax add a sense of dramatic edge to an otherwise club-focused EP.

Monica Lionheart (Pacha Massive / Zigmat)-Indian Summer

A singer, songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist, Monica Lionheart is known for creating unique, atmospheric songs with a global twist.  In Indian Summer, her first album since Zigmat’s critically acclaimed Sounds of Machine, the chanteuse channels Norah Jones’s soothing vocals, deconstructs personal relationships with the lyrical honesty reminiscent of Julieta Venegas and brings it all together with the kind of eclectic beats that defined Beth Orton.

From the calmness of “Air and Sea”  to the complexity of “Circles,” which features world-renowned cellist, Yoed Nir (Regina Spektor, Rufus Wainwright) Indian Summer is an exotic, aural experience. Lionheart’s music is often described as both mystifying and haunting andIndian Summer is no exception. Filled with lush arrangements, mesmerizing vocals and vivid imagery, the album is a chronicle of love and heartbreak.

Introducing ‘Kleine Reise Records’, a Berlin based vinyl & digital label flowering from the roots of our beloved clubs Kleine Reise & Loftus Hall; a natural progression to further share our world of sound. Life is change, tastes evolve, the only essential ingredient is for our music to have soul. Free from the shackles of any particular style or genre and from the constraints of time, we begin a journey through the sonic universe. Our first offering comes from two of Kleine Reise’s founding members Dara Drea O’Neill and Peter Power.

On the A-side we have Sun-K, composed during several sundowns at the hazy heights of last Summer. Channeling the collective spirit of the open-air arena, it offers the first glimpse into Peter’s Ufordian fantasy.

On the B-Side; Dara takes a bare-back ride through a pitched dreamscape. The constant flapping wings of a little dragon guides the journey and if you stretch out your arms it feels like flying.

Lastly with ‘Red Roses’ Peter weaves a lakeside twist. A hypnotic tale of roses and enchanted love amidst the misty, rippling waters of a wet dream.

Download:The Bombay Royale – You Me Bullets Love

The Bombay Royale are dedicated to bringing music and mayhem of vintage Indian cinema back to the future, where it belongs. Their debut album You Me Bullets Love is a blend of haunting Hindi and Bengali vocals, pulsing deep funk and disco breaks and shimmering surf-a-delica. Expect huge horn riffs, wild spaghetti guitar, bustling tabla, screaming organs and all the synthesizers, sitars and strings that made the music of 1960s and 1970s Bollywood so electrifying.  Starring vocalists Parvyn Kaur Singh as “The Mysterious Lady” and Shourov Bhattacharya as “The Tiger,”You Me Bullets Love is the soundtrack to a story of espionage, excitement, extended dance sequences and the eternal power of true love.

The golden age of Bollywood was a riot of saturated color and dramatic excess and the music that accompanied it was unmatched in bizarre experimentation, deep sophistication and outright funky badness: a treasure trove for sample hungry hiphop heads and secretive, vinyl-obsessed funk collectors.  Musical director Andy Williamson (“The Skipper”) formed The Bombay Royale to bring the hidden musical gems of that lost era out into the light.  The originators, people like R.D Burman, Asha Bhosle and Mohammed Rafi are still household names in India, but largely unknown in the outside world. The Bombay Royale is here to rectify that situation.

You Me Bullets Love is for the neophytes and enthusiasts alike, a combination of vibrant original material and vintage Hindi superhits. Available on Gatefold LP, CD and digital worldwide, You Me Bullets Love sounds like no other record you will buy this year.
