Jazzanova’s new album: Funkhaus Studio Sessions – 5/15+Free Download

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , on May 9, 2012 by dk

Jazzanova producers, Stefan Leisering & Axel Reinemer, went into the studio with their 7 piece live band with Paul Randolph on vocals to record a 14 track set.

Whoever had the chance to see Jazzanova play live during the last three years knows how magical this experience can be. The Berlin based outfit transports the richness and sublimity of their productions (own compositions and remixes) perfectly on stage. And it adds this extra twist to the performance which makes the music even more tangible and human. In last November the 2 producers of Jazzanova, Stefan Leisering & Axel Reinemer & the original Jazzanova touring band(see below for full line up) brought the spirit of their extensive worldwide tour to the studio to record a typical live set – this time with proper recording gear and state-of-art engineering equipment though. The “Funkhaus Studio Sessions” marks Jazzanova’s first live album release. Including the songs the band learned to love the most on tour over the last three years as well as the audience’s favourites: From their initial breakthrough smash “Fedime’s Flight” to “Look What You’re Doin To Me” off the “Of All The Things” album from 2008 and renditions and interpretations of Jazzanova remixes (f.e. the remix for Fat Freddy’s Drop’s “Flashback). The 14 track strong set also includes a brand new tune with “I Human,” co-written by vocalist and bass player Paul Randolph, a constant member of the live band and now of course the voice of the “Funkaus Studio Sessions.” An album that will please every Jazzanova fan and every true music lover with an affinity for warm, soulful, deep and genuine musicianship. When have you last heard a studio album so alive, fleshly, organic and solid at the same time? It captures the feel of a live recording but without any flaws due to poor recording equipment or sound aesthetics.

The sessions at the legendary GDR Rundfunk Orchestra studios in East Berlin have also been filmed. Check out the accompanying video to “I Human” for some of its footage. With “Funkhaus Studio Sessions” Jazzanova will take you and their music to the next stage.

The musicians involved in this recording: Paul Randolph (Vocals), Arne Jansen (Guitar), Carl Michael Grabinger (Drums), Sebastian Studnitzky (Keys), Sebastian Borkowski (Sax/Flute), Stefan Ulrich (Trombone), Paul Kleber (Bass), Axel Reinemer (Electronics / Percussion), Stefan Leisering (Congas, Synths, Ampli-Celeste).

Zombie Disco Squad feat DJ Funk – Twerk

Zombie Disco Squad
Made To Play
28th May 2012

Bursting onto the club scene back in 2006, Zombie Disco Squad soon distinguished itself from the masses of electro producers clogging up blogs with a jacking house sensibility that stood him apart. Fast forward 6 years and releases on labels such as Dirty Bird and Sound Pellegrino, and Nat Self is finally ready to release the debut Zombie Disco Squad album, ‘Brains’, on Jesse Rose’s Made To Play label.

First single ‘Righteous Sound’, featuring 80s soul legend Omar, highlights Nat’s flair for classic house music, Omar’s velvet vocals slide over tough Chicago rhythms; think Marvin Gaye as Derrick Carter’s MC and you’ll start to get the idea.

As versatile as it is banging, ‘Brains’ dishes up classic raw house moments like ‘Twerk’ primed for the dancefloor and ready to go off, subtle electronic movers like ‘Dedication’. All together ‘Brains’ is an assault on the senses; one you want repeated again and again.

Having remixed the likes of Cashmere, Black Box and Groove Armada, Nat has proven himself over the years an expert at reshaping the sounds of others. Throughout ‘Brains’ his skill at finding and using that bedrock of house music, the sample, shines through. In his hands, tracks like, ‘Timesome’ become destined for hands-in-the-air moments on sun-bleached terraces this summer.

Zombie Disco Squad sit at the forefront of modern day house music, taking influences from cultures around the world and melting them down into what has become a trademark sound. With a loyal following across the dance music spectrum, it’s never surprising to hear his tracks being spun by techno artists such as Luciano and Ricardo Villalobos, house legends Derrick Carter and Sneak to the likes of Radio 1’s Annie Mac, and even London’s Rinse FM.

An artist that has been bubbling and pushing boundaries for years, playing the world’s most exciting festivals and underground clubs such as his Made For The Night residency at Watergate, Berlin, 2012 looks set to be the year the world says ‘Zombie Disco Squad, you’ve paid your dues; welcome to the headline spot.’

Pariah -Rift on R&S Records

Pariah returns to R&S for his third single.

His debut ‘Detroit Falls/Orpheus’ marked a turning point for the label, as it turned its attention to a young, new breed of producers on its doorstep in London. The follow up ‘Safehouses’ doublepack found him mining his influences further and developing his sound over six tracks and became one of the labels most celebrated and best selling recent releases.

Since then he has collaborated with Blawan on the Karenn project which has spawned dj appearances at the best clubs in Europe, vinyl only releases, remixes and a forthcoming live show, and also delivered one of the stand out tracks to the IOTDXI compilation with ‘Left Unsaid’.

The initial blueprints for the three tracks on this new release were created from sampling short wave radio recordings, not the most obvious starting point for making tracks, but Pariah isn’t your average or obvious producer. He’s gradually building a canon of evocative, beautiful and honest music that is quite rightly receiving both critical and commercial acclaim.

London producer George FitzGerald follows up Silhouette, his 2011 debut on Will Saul’s imprint Aus Music with a four track EP entitled Child. With past releases on Hotflush and his own imprint, ManMakeMusic, his productions combine the lush, melodic sides of house and garage with the more intense, jacking rhythms of dubstep and techno. His second EP for Aus fully explores the 4/4 end of his production spectrum to devastating effect with four tracks that are all designed with the peak time dance floor in mind.

Keep your ears peeled for a remix EP of Child in September featuring a mix of Child by Gerd under his jacking Geeeman alias, alongside exciting young talent Gerry Read’s interpretation of Lights Out. Next up on Aus is an EP from Bicep with a remix from Panoramabar resident Steffi.

Air Texture Volume II

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , on May 9, 2012 by dk

The Air Texture Volume Series asks two producers to curate a CD each of material for combined release. Producers are selected from the worlds of ambient, modern composition, avant-garde, and experimental electronic music.

As electronic music moves into the rock arena, it’s essential to take note and respect the history of experimental electronic music: from Satie’s furniture music and La Monte Young’s drones to Cage’s I Ching compositions and Eno’s works first dubbed by him as Ambient.

From there and in the tradition of Excursions in Ambience and Pop Ambient, Air Texture looks to catalogue and promote the diverse world of new ambient, experimental, and less beat oriented electronic music, through the musician’s perspective.

Highlights include Brian McBride (Stars of the Lid), Pan American (Labradford), and Simon Scott (Slowdive) among many others.

Christian Smith – Carambola EP (Bedrock)

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , on May 9, 2012 by dk

The genre-blurring techno master Christian Smith returns to John Digweed’s Bedrock label with another set of his trademark spellbinding productions.
“It’s a pleasure to deliver another EP for Bedrock. This time I made a peak time musical techno track, that has been tested many times and I’m really happy with the reactions on the floor ” – Christian Smith
“Carambola” is a track that has all the funk you could want, as it spirals ever upwards, powered by gorgeous uplifting keys and strings to create a glorious hands-in-the-air anthem in true show-stopping style. This will be a highlight in many big-room DJ sets all summer long, without a doubt.
“Carambola Green” is equally huge, keeping the funk-factor high and working a stunning techno vibe as it winds up the intensity before unleashing yet another superb hands-in-the-air climax. This is another absolutely masterful creation from Christian Smith, making this is an EP you don’t want to miss out on!
Christian Smith has been at the top of his game as a DJ and producer for over a decade, but despite enjoying a global reputation as one of the most evergreen performers in his field, times have never been quite as good as they are right now. While his roots lie in techno, Christian has never been a purist, favouring instead to flavour the melodic, rhythmical music he loves with doses of funk or interspersing the raw energy of his sets with inspired moments of pure euphoria. His big-room, genre-blurring sound is very much suited to the Bedrock ethos of releasing the best quality electronic dance music that goes beyond fads and fashion as this brand new EP demonstrates.
With the momentum of his recent successful releases firmly behind him and with the strength of fresh inspiration driving his ambition forward, the “Carambola EP” shows once again exactly why Christian Smith remains at the top of his game, maintaining his relevance and position at the very pinnacle of electronic music in 2012.
