Artist: Swindle
Title: Need To Know Feat. Toddla T & Sam Frank w/ Have A Go Feat. Takura
 Label: Self-released
Format: Digital
 Release Date: 06.07.12
A1. Need To Know Feat. Toddla T & Sam Frank
A2. Have A Go Feat. Takura

Swindle gears up for his fourth release in 2012, hot off the back of attention grabbing efforts on Butterz and Deep Medi and shows no signs halting his recent prolific run of hits – both with instrumentals and vocals. This Double A-side from the highly versatile producer is no different.

Co-produced with Radio 1’s Toddla T, ‘Need To Know‘ slows down the pace with the help of Sam Frank’s vocoder-aided lyrics that echo that of Zapp and Roger with ultra funky synths and chord progression. Frank croons effortlessly about the ‘the other woman’ and all of her positive attributes but protests that she still hasn’t got anything on the main woman in his life. With its seductive slow-mo bounce and love-fueled content don’t be surprised to hear this closing a few DJ sets in months to come for the last dance.

The video for the track sees animated versions of Swindle, Toddla T and Sam Frank embark on an intergalactic quest to the future whilst trying to resist the temptation of extra-marital (and terrestrial) affairs and is made by Cargo Collective‘s Adam Aiken.
‘Have A Go’ has got an unmistakable summer vibe with lush high-pitched synths and soulful but sparse vocal arrangement. Featuring vocals from Takura, a frequent collaborator with Chase & Status as well as Redlight and Skream, the track is slightly more removed from his notorious Grime efforts. However the funk-obsessed producer remains true to his love of fusing raw funk chords with hard-edged electronic beats on this occasion and has garnered early support from the likes of Annie Mac and Mistajam.

Marc Mac Presents Visioneers -Hipology(Stream)

Since the late 80s Londoner Marc Mac has been converting audiences with his sophisticated take on urban soul. A hybrid concoction of breakbeat, nu-jazz, neo soul, drum and bass, and Hip Hop, its a polished sound plugged directly into the emotional highway of 21st century city living. Working under a variety of guises, his prodigious output includes his work as one half of 4hero, Visioneers, Natures Plan and Nu Era. In the late 90‘s Marc signed to Gilles Peterson’s Talking Loud Records with 4hero. 4hero went on to produce two classic albums with Talkin Loud icluding the award winning “Two Pages” & “Creating Patterns” they then set up their own label where the critically acclaimed “Play With The Changes” was released. Somewhere in this timeline, between producing music for Jill Scott to Roy Ayers, Phonte to Terry Callier, Marc started another pro! ject called Visioneers releasing a set of limited 7” singles getting the attention from top eclectic DJ’s including Jazzy Jeff, Kenny Dope, Gilles Peterson & Norman Jay. Visioneers was then picked up by BBE records who released the debut album “Dirty Old Hip Hop”.
While recording this new Visioneers record, Mac began thinking how hip-hop had been a (sometimes invisible) guiding hand in his life. “The music, the fashion and culture. Although producing all kinds of music from jungle to jazz, hip-hop (or at least what is was) has always been a part of what I do in some strange and sometimes very subtle way.” Documenting this influence on, his very own digital scrapbook (that has also spawned the record of the same title), it’s easy to see the depth of Mac’s appreciation of hip-hop. HIPOLOGY; the album includes hand picked guest John Robinson, Notes To Self, TRAC & Baron alongside some featured musicians Luke Parkhouse, Ariya Astrobeat Arkestra & The Support Horns. The result is a real cool, funky eclectic mix of breaks, beats, soul/jazz and freaky squeaks a great follow up to the debut

Scuba – NE1BUTU (SCB Edit)

Having released his third album ‘Personality’ earlier this year to much critical acclaim. Scuba is pleased to announce his new single ‘NE1BUTU’ will be released on July 2nd through Hotflush.

‘NE1BUTU’ is Scuba’s glorious take on a thunderous classic house track, complete with piano break and an infectious bubbling bassline – it’s perfect for the summer’s dancefloors. Backed by a SCB – Scuba’s other alias – remix, he adds a minimal techno edge to the song.

Taken from ‘Personality’, the album sweeps effortlessly across a wealth of genres within contemporary dance music, proving once again Scuba’s place at the cutting edge of the electronic music scene.

What is Micro Mega?
It’s the idea that everything from the microscopic scale to the infinitely large, is designed from a similar pattern. A fractalist vision of what surrounds us, a way of seeing variety and chaos as part of One. A peaceful & unitive idea all in all…

While the common pattern through Strip Steve‘s debut album is clearly his own sense of rhythm & melody, his distinctive rich, sweet & mellow backbone, we discover in his first full length a whole new variety of styles and colors that might have stayed unsuspected from him so far, letting us deeper into the corners of his creative mind.

Bright & dark, fast & slow, the french boy (relocated in Berlin) touches a bit of everything, strikes different cords within us. If we feel the sound is purposely left untamed (MICRO, SKATE CONTROL, DON’T KNOW WHEN) Strip Steve always has a way of making electronic music sound open to everyone and listenable any time of the day and night.

He teams up with the lucid and wild eyed dream-pop duo Puro Instinct (from L.A.), young protégées of living legend Ariel Pink, on ASTRAL PROJECTION (first formal single of the album), to create a flirty and emotional dark disco track. What seems to be a simple and very fresh formula according to all people who heard it.

While STOMP & RADIOCHECK showcase a style we’ve been already familiar with in Strip Steve’s previous releases, SKATE CONTROL takes it up a notch, being simply made from a needle jumping randomly on a record over a TR-707 beat. The result is raw, complex & incredibly funky.

On ONE THING he goes back to the old school basics of Chicago House (a passion he always communicated in his various dj sets) and features one of his heroes, the man with the voice of silk, Robert Owens. Creating a stripped down & hypnotic dancefloor number that will leave no feet still.

MONEY TROUBLE FUNK & ALL THE TIME slow down the tempo takes us a train ride under the sun of JAMifornia, MUSIC FOR THE RINGTONE GENERATION, the moog infused classical ballad has nothing to envy from the best songs of Wendy Carlos, and MEGA, the final act of the play (and maybe the best one of the lot) is an unclassifiable ternary loop slowly sinking into a wave of melodic synth layers. Get the picture? Just listen to it and it will all make sense.

Micro Mega is not a concept album in the strict sense of the term, nor a simple compilation of unrelated tracks, it’s the debut album of an artist who’s eager to invite people to go through a journey. One of different flavours, sights, & emotions.

It is the reflection of our modern generation who grew up incorporating a very wide variety of references (from experimental to pop) & styles (from funk to rock) all equally.

So UNITE and DANCE with all the tiny cells of your body, from MICRO to MEGA.

Drop The Lime – Enter The Night

NYC-based producer/DJ DROP THE LIME—born Luca Venezia–is branching out.  For his album ENTER THE NIGHT, out July 2 on Ultra Music, he adds songwriter, guitarist and vocalist to his credits.  With passion for bass and a thirst for blood, he weaves a baroque nighttime fantasy, riding the range from the ashes of rave into the dark heart of rock & roll.

His music (like his life) is an epic adventure of mystery, heartbreak and magic, combining the gun-slinging swagger of Ennio Morricone, the techno grandeur of Underworld, and the storytelling prowess of Johnny Cash.  As influenced by Richie Valens as Richie Hawtin, the album’s first single “Bandit Blues” finds Venezia marrying his blues guitar licks and unmistakably sultry croon to the sheer dance music wizardry that has become his trademark. It was New York City—where, in addition to New Orleans and London, he recorded the album–that was the draw for “Bandit Blues.”

“Being born there and having so much love for the city means I wear it on my sleeve,” says Venezia of ENTER THE NIGHT’s first single.  “It’s an incredible inspiration for me, but right now, it feels like there’s a lot of struggle going on with the economy and the people. The economy being a mess, politics being a mess–everything is a mess. The only way to really enjoy it is through music.”

Track listing:

1. Not The Only One
2. Bandit Blues
3. Darkness
4. No Sleep For The Wicked
5. Stay Up Late
6. (Ghost) Riders In The Sky
7. Devil’s Eyes
8. State Trooper
9. Circles
10. Leaving
