Tone Control return with house music vocal legend, Robert Owens for a steppin’, bass led mantra for the dance floor. Tone Control bring in soulful house star, Sean McCabe on Moog, Rhodes and Organ to complete “Starting With Me”. Working the analogue delays, “Stuck On Loop” is a dark and serious dubbed out excursion. Glaswegian producer, James Johnston has been making big waves for vinyl loving, deep house heads recently – he turns in a heavy chorded, bumpin’ dub remix to complete this new single, the 12th release on Tone Control Music.

Tone Control are Marcus Harris and Simon Finnegan. The British production duo have been progressively releasing their own brand of electronic soul for over 6 years appealing to house music and leftfield DJ’s alike. Following the release of their critically acclaimed “Illusion” single, much lauded by Theo Parrish and Kerri Chandler, the duo have gone on to find wider appeal with their smash “Take Me Away” ft. Adeola Ranson and “Without Your Love” ft. James B. Coleman – remixed by DJ Spinna and played by DJs globally including ‘Lil Louis and Kenny Dope.

Robert Owens has played an instrumental part in defining House Music history. Robert was already DJing in Chicago when he met Larry Heard to form Fingers Inc. with Ron Wilson in 1985. Their output included “Bring Down the Walls”, and the monumental “Can You Feel It”. Robert’s subsequent solo releases, led to the classic “Tears” with Frankie Knuckles & Satoshi Tomiie in 1989. Worldwide chart success followed in the 90’s with “I’ll Be Your Friend”. Robert was cited as “The voice of house music” by Mixmag. Since then Robert has worked with an incredible list of influential artists including Photek, London Elektricity, Sandy Rivera, Coldcut, Quentin Harris, and recently Tevo Howard and Kai Alce to name a few. His recent LP’s for Compost Records demonstrate his continued inspiration and artistic longevity, maintaining his reputation as the man who breathed life and soul into House Music.

Baio (Vampire Weekend/Greco-Roman) – Sunburn Modern video

Posted in News with tags , , , , , on June 22, 2012 by dk

Vampire Weekend’s Baio recently released his debut solo EP, Sunburn, on Greco-Roman. Three tracks of tropical electronica inspired by a trip to Mexico and a nasty case of modern art-shaped sunburn.

EP opener Sunburn Modern’s sound is that of clattering balkan rhythms, pitched-up euphoric vocals, lush, rising melotron chords and 8-bit inspired melodies, the perfect soundtrack to a strange and ethereal summer night. Middle track “Anonymity 1” is melancholy leads and ecstatic house-piano, rolling percussion and polyrhythmic blips that wouldn’t sound out of place next to the music of Spaniards John Talabot and Delorean. Closer “Tanto” is a sample-based take on steel drum house and features underground Chilean popstar Matias Aguayo on vocals.

Now, as we celebrate the summer Solstice, Baio is pleased to share with you the video for single “Sunburn Modern”, directed by Aramique:

Stefan Obermaier Launches Drift Recordings – Bagana EP Out Today
Critically acclaimed Austrian DJ/producer Stefan Obermaier and his manager Zwetelina Angelova have launched a new label, Drift Recordings, with Stefan’s own ‘Bagana EP’ (released June 15th) the imprint’s debut offering.

One of Europe’s most exciting producers Stefan has built a name for himself as part of the Zero:Zero Kollektiv, with his solo releases on the Vienna Scientists label and for his Gold selling Classic Re:Loaded project that saw him piece apart some of Beethoven most famous works retooling them for the 21st century.

To launch his own label Stefan has stepped up to the plate delivering 4 tracks that already has DJs purring with delight. Title track ‘Bagana’ sums it all up nicely: Crisp, uplifting, house music primed for the dancefloor.

The rest of the EP maintains that momentum; ‘Ti Pui’ ramps up the sex factor, adding sultry vocal samples to Stefan’s beats. ‘Free again’ goes deeper and darker, though not without a transforming burst of uplifting melody towards the end, and last but not least, on ‘Dab Dab’ Mr. Obermaier delivers that unique dub style that has made him Stefan a household name among house music connoisseurs.

With Stefan overseeing A&R duties and Zwetelina the day to day management of the label, there are already several more releases lined up to take us through the year. Expect to hear a lot more from both Drift Recordings and Stefan Obermaier in 2012.
