Bosconi Stallions – Apacz

Posted in News with tags , , , , , on June 29, 2013 by J.D.

Bosco022_BosconiStallionsApacz_CoverArtworkWebARounding up the finest of our rare breeds for a show-stopping steeplechase, Bosconi is proud to invite the world into our stables to demonstrate the sound we have been rearing for the past five years.

Leaping from the stocks in a flurry of high-pedigree house and techno, our Stallions bring forth the values we hold dear in electronic music, from young foals such as Herva and Nicholas to seasoned steeds like A Guy Called Gerald and Nick Anthony Simoncino.

After youʼve appreciated only by instinct the quality of the new home-grown Bosconi horses, thanks to the mix proposed by Bosconi Soundsystem (Fabio Della Torre, Rufus, Mass Prod & Alex Picone) has finally come forward to present the first of the four records of the saga Bosconi Stallions: in honor to Apacz between house and disco, he will be the first thoroughbred that will guide us through the first stage of this historic project that will revolutionize Bosconi Records. In his adventure will come accompanied by Herva foal to race, with its powerful Stay, followed by Rondenion with the dawning output Sunrize that bridges the solar Put The Man Out of Riccio until the darkest Voices of San Proper & The Clover. It is the beginning of a long ride but absolutely pleasure.

Self Fish “Another”

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , on June 29, 2013 by J.D.

SELFISH ANOTHERSF based music and production crew MalLabel is proud to import this latest release from the cutting edge musical duo Self Fish – “Another.” Russian natives Nikolay Denisov (Nik) and Daria Mutovkina (Dasha) live over 100 miles apart and have never met face to face but joined forces over the internet o create an entity with a spirit of its own. With this, their 2nd EP, they take their lyrically infused dubs to a new deep and otherworldly level.

Once again Self Fish showcases their range and ability to keep dark music on the lighter side. “Another” is well balanced… Heavy in bass but sweet in nature. Both Nik and Dasha agree that groove and harmony are the most important elements of music and this clearly shines through in their production. The duo doesn’t ascribe to any genre limitations, keeping their tracks innovative and dynamic.

Soulful seductive female vocals are echoed by haunting synthetic robot growls. A cloudy sonic dreamscape is woven together with energetic and intricate rhythms. Alluring and ethereal yet driven with aggressive beats, this new album cleverly blends dubstep with elements of UK Garage and ambient 2-step… “Another” unlocks the dark and mysterious and carves grooves into the uplifting.

Greg Haines ‘Where We Were’ – (Denovali Records)

Posted in News with tags , , , , , on June 29, 2013 by J.D.

GregHaines_WhereWeWere
WHERE WE WERE”, the new album from GREG HAINES, may come as a surprise upon first listen. The cascading strings that played such an important role in his prior work have disappeared, and in their place are intricate layers of tape-worn synthesizers. Any recordings of piano have been transformed and affected until their sound is at times barely recognizable. Moments of quiet, slow moving textures can still be found, but they are nestled between upbeat, rhythmically-driven tracks that at times could even be considered for deployment on open-minded dancefloors.
Although taking a year to complete, the nature of this record is born in its spontaneity and impulsiveness. The acoustic instruments such as piano, vibraphone and other percussion that found their way on to the album were not the result of months of composing – rather they were entirely improvised and often left completely unedited and raw. At first the idea was that these rough tracks, full of noises and hiss, would later be re-recorded, but as the process drew on it became clear that these kind of loose, half-thought moments were what defined the album – often “out-of time” or “out-of-tune”, but always adding another dimension to the hazy, analog world of sound. This hand-crafted approach led to almost everything being constructed in the old-fashioned way; not with mouse-clicks, but with two hands moving dials and everything running to an aged tape machine.

Format: CD | 2xLP | DIGI / Release: Aug 2013 /
Tracklist: 1. The Intruder 2. Something Happened 3. So it Goes 4. Trasimeno 5. The Whole 6. Wake Mania Without End II 7. Habenero 8. Habenero (version)

This album is the result of one person sitting alone in a room and creating something entirely personal, without the frustrations of organising large-scale sessions for other players or preparing scores. In fact, the few scored moments that were written were later disregarded, with a whole string session from PETER BRODERICK ending up on the cutting-room floor (sorry, Peter!), along with endless hours of other material. What is left is the condensed diary of a year of exploring old tape delays, analog synths and percussion – some of which played by percussionist/composer SYTZE PRUIKSMA (a member, along with Haines, of THE ALVARET ENSEMBLE, whose debut album was released in December 2012 by Denovali Records), and some of which played and recorded in a midnight daze at Haines’ studio in Berlin. Working in this way led to a whole host of other long-term influences feeding into the music that had never found an outlet before. The experiments in dub conducted by the likes of KING TUBBY or LEE PERRY and continued by the likes of RHYTHM & SOUND had a profound effect, as did the iconic work of TONY ALLEN and other African composers. The spaced-out soundscapes found on early TANGERINE DREAM and KLAUS SCHULZE had always had a subtle influence on Greg’s work, but now armed with an arsenal of dusty studio toys, those sounds became warmer, richer and more prominent.

The influences evoked here may at first appear at odds with Greg’s previous work, but an affinity between the dense poly-rhythms of Africa and beyond have long been an influence for contemporary composers such as STEVE REICH, and their reach and importance on western music is undeniable. But now the lines have been blurred, and its impossible to say where one “style” or influence stops and another begins – something that was perhaps the only concept for this record. The symphonic synth crescendo of “So it Goes” would not have the same impact if it were not following the head nodding drive of “Something Happened”. The delicate arpeggios of “Wake Mania Without End II” only exaggerate the unrelenting, rhythmical explosion of “Habenero”, and without starting with the intimate piano of “The Intruder”, the album’s cavernous ending wouldn’t feel so otherworldly. Its all in there or at least what’s left of it after the hiss, the dirt and the degradation of the tape machine destroyed it, reworked it, and spat it back out fullyformed.

Zola Jesus “Avalanche (Slow)” (OFFICIAL AUDIO)

Posted in News with tags , , , , on June 29, 2013 by J.D.

Zola Jesus Avalanche versionsOn August 20, Sacred Bones Records will release Versions — an album of nine classic Zola Jesus songs and one new track arranged for string quartet by JG Thirlwell.

On the heels of her Conatus world tour, Nika Roza Danilova was offered an opportunity to perform at one of the most prestigious modern art museums in the world, NY’s Guggenheim. Rather than doing her standard Zola Jesus electronic set she decided she wanted to work with a classical composer who could arrange her songs for a quartet. She recruited legendary pioneer JG Thirlwell (Foetus) to do the arrangements.

Since his in the early 80’s New York no-wave scene, JG has been scoring and composing symphonic arrangements for his own project Manorexia, in addition to currently scoring Adult Swim’s Venture Brothers series. Thirlwell’s oeuvre runs the gamut from orchestrations, big band, and cathartic noise-rock to abstract electronics, sound sculpture, and chamber music, thus making him the perfect collaborator to help realize Danilova’s vision.
Danilova explains her intentions with this album:
“‘Versions’ is about the bone of the music; taking approximations from past records and turning them inside out. With all framework exposed, the songs are given a new medium in which to evolve and bloom into their own tiny worlds.

Versions Track List:
01. Avalanche (Slow)
02. Fall Back
03. Hikikomori
04. Run Me Out
05. Seekir
06. Sea Talk
07. Night
08. In Your Nature
09. Collapse

Edu Imbernon & Triumph -Veranoski

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , , , on June 28, 2013 by J.D.

Edu Imbernon & Triumph -VeranoskiThis is the only way that people will remember your music, trying to make them feel something special and making them dance.” – Edu Imbernon

Having remixed Jozif’s “Twilight” for John Digweed’s “Live In London” opus and played at the Bedrock anniversary party where the live recording was made, Spain’s Edu Imbernon has already demonstrated a brilliant ear for pulsating house music. Now, he returns, having teamed up with fellow Spaniard Triumph, with “Veranoski” – another haunting masterclass in dancefloor dynamics.

Edu Imbernon is a great example of how a young artist can quickly make their mark on the electronic scene, his worldwide hit – “El Baile Alemán” (produced with his friend Coyu), was lauded as “Best Underground Track of the Year” by Beatport in 2009. Since then, he has continued his steady ascent up the ladder towards house music stardom, with quality remixes for the likes of The XX and Maya Jane Coles, amongst others. His productions have featured on notable labels like Get Physical, Noir Music, Trapez, Great Stuff, Diynamic, alongside his own Eklektisch label. He’s also resident for Kehakuma at Space, Ibiza.

The superb remix of “Veranoski” comes from another of Spain’s finest – Henry Saiz – whose outings on Bedrock are always exceptional. Henry’s critically acclaimed “Balance 019” album, released in 2011, was the catalyst for his star potential explode around the globe. His superb collaboration with Guy J (“Meridian”) and his solo track (“La Marea”) for the landmark Bedrock 100 release, were of the highest level of quality and his “Cryptozoologist EP” (BEDDIGI27) was one of 2012’s highlights. Here, his remix of “Veranoski” once again proves Henry Saiz is undoubtedly one of the most extraordinarily talented young producers around.

Ebony Bones – “I See I Say”(Stream)

Posted in News with tags , , , on June 28, 2013 by J.D.

Ebony Bones - i See I SayBehold, A Pale Horse out 8/5

Singer, songwriter, producer and boundary-breaking artist Ebony Bones– whose stage name was coined by punk rock icon Rat Scabies, drummer of The Damned– developed a love for music at an early age. Spending time in her father’s music stall in Brixton Market, her musical education began with artists like Brian Eno & Quincy Jones, and her influences grew to include everyone from Siouxsie Sioux & The Slits to Fela Kuti & Public Enemy. Ebony’s dynamic new album features chants from the Symphony Orchestra of India, tribal beats, frenzied, screeching strings, and powerful vocals.
