After a long awaited return last year with an artist album onRekids, cult techno hero Mr Glooks back on his 14 year career with ‘Retrospective’, a snapshot of his best work featuring some unreleased material all remastered for this special release.

Mr G’s rich and diverse musical heritage is showcased through various pseudonyms such as The Reaver, Mango Boy andHalcyon Daze. Featuring over twenty tracks released originally on labels such as Phoenix G, Defected, Careless, Duty Free, Shuffle, End Recordings, Tag Records and Glyph, ‘Retrospective’ is an auditory map of the evolution of Mr G’s bass centric, analogue sound, which together with his unforgettable live show has made him an enduring institution that has shaped dance music as we know it.

Crypt ‘Feel You’ (Nineteen89) // 22nd July

Following well-received EPs from Rumah and Metrist, Nineteen89’s third release comes from Essex producerCrypt. ‘Feel You’ is a high-energy, uplifting house track aimed straight at the dancefloor, effortlessly combining old-school technique with modern production. ‘Don’t Look Back’ is a sub-heavy roller with hypnotic vocals and sinister ambience, while ‘Visions’ is the darkest of the three cuts, with crunchy percussion and warped bassline.

With releases on Four40 Records and Get Some! Records, Crypt’s early productions were heavily influenced by the movement of dubstep, especially from the dark 2-step garage sound that first emerged from early FWD events at London’s Plastic People. Fragments of these early influences remain in his productions, blended with the various sounds and textures that have infiltrated the ever evolving UK electronic music scene.

Solid State Drive – Sub Symphony

Solid State Drive, AKA Kev Curtis, is no stranger to the limelight. Composing his first documentary score for the BBC in 1996, Kev went on to enjoy an illustrious career in the world of sync (music to picture). Having written music for programs on; Channel 4, Sky, ITV, Channel Five and The Discovery Channel, Kev has established himself as a go to music producer, for many high powered TV Executives. This has led to the programmes that he has written music for, winning BAFTAs and RTS awards.

When Kev is not busy soundtracking our TV viewing, he endulges in his passion for Leftfield Electronica. The music of Solid State Drive is a perfectly blended fusion of the Orchestral and the Electronic, with Rock influences. Of course being a highly talented multi-instrumentalist always helps in these matters, allowing Kev to record a variety of the live parts of this album himself. Joining the party is also a careful selection of talented musicians. The level of musicianship here is high.

Now on it’s third release, Dusted Down was formed as a subsidary label of successful Breaks label Dusted Breaks. Having won the award for Best New Label in 2009, at the Breakspoll Awards, the guys at Dusted Breaks have worked with the crème de la crème of the Breaks world ever since. Now, label manager Lee Martin is embarking on a venture into the world of Leftfield Electronica with Dusted Down.

Sub Symphony delivers a relaxing, yet diverse ride for the listener. The album varies from more Downtempo, Ambient Electronica, to more driving tracks, with pulsating 909 Kicks and harder edged synth lines. Melody and harmony are a plenty throughout the album and there is no doubt that there is a level of musicianship here, that most Electronic albums don’t reach. Tracks naturally progress, maintaining the listener’s interest, whilst varying in mood, from uplifting, to moody, to calming. This makes for a well rounded album, professionally executed by talented musicians.

Mark Pritchard Announces ‘Ghosts’ EP Released June 25 (Digital), July 23 (Vinyl)(Preview)

Mark Pritchard’s new ‘Ghosts’ EP is the first of three EPs set to be released ahead of an upcoming full length album. The four track EP is lead by the track “Ghosts” – his take on footwork, with a nod to Detroit techno.

Mark Pritchard has previously been known under many guises – most recently asHarmonic 313, Harmonic 33 and one half of Africa Hitech. This release marks the start of a new and single moniker – all his production styles have come together under one name. The EP demonstrates Pritchard’s expansive work over decades at the forefront of cutting edge electronic music.
