I Can Dream (Rusko’s ‘Hands In The Air’ Remix)

Posted in Dub Step, Hits Remixed on December 18, 2009 by dk

Skunk Anansie (or SA) are a worldwide multi-platinum selling English rock band whose members include Skin (born Deborah Dyer, 3 August 1967, Brixton), Cass (born Richard Keith Lewis, 1 September 1960, London), Ace (Martin Ivor Kent, 30 March 1967, Cheltenham) and Mark Richardson (born 28 May 1970, Leeds).

Skunk Anansie formed in March 1994, disbanded in 2001 and reformed in 2009. The name ‘Skunk Anansie’ is taken after the West African folk tales of Anansi the spider-man, with “Skunk” added to “make the name nastier.”[2] They are often grouped as part of a Britrock movement, running alongside Britpop. The band in 2004, were named as one of the most-successful UK chart acts between 1952-2003 by Guinness Book of British Hit Singles & Albums, with a total of 141 weeks on both the singles and album charts ranking them at #491.[3] When the book first published this annual top 500 list in 2000, it only involved weeks spent on the singles chart until 2004’s 17th edition, meaning the band’s highest ranking has not been notified in any of the past editions. Their longest running release is 1996’s Stoosh album with 55 weeks and a peak of #9.(more at wiki)

I Can Dream from 1995,one my favourite Skunk Anansie hits is back in 2009!

FACT mix 87: Noodles

Posted in 2 Step, Dub Step, Grime, Headz, Hip Hop, Hits Remixed, Nu Jazz, Podcast, UK Garage on September 28, 2009 by dk

FACT Mix 87 comes from the man behind 2step legends Groove Chronicles and the associated DPR label, Noodles.

Steven Jude to those who know him best, Noodles is one of our favourite DJs and producers in the UK, and his FACT mix only puts him higher in that hierarchy. He founded Groove Chronicles in 1996, and it quickly established itself at the vanguard of UK club music, releasing a series of phenomenal tracks engineered by El-B. A distillation of R&B, jungle, broken beat and house influences, their 1998 single ‘Stone Cold’ is widely regarded as the creative high watermark of UK garage, and Burial speaks often of his admiration for it.

Noodles continues to operate the Groove Chronicles/DPR label, releasing new music alongside archive classics [we asked him, and ‘Stone Cold’ is getting re-issued on vinyl, before you ask – Ed]. His FACT mix features material from himself, MJ Cole, Menta, Sunship, Architeches and more ghosts of UK garage past. We’d suggest you download it, so long as you like stuff like dancing and fun.

‘Thump’, the single mixed by Dave Bascombe (Tears for Fears/Royksopp) and mastered by Jon Davis at Metropolis London.

or listen via soundcloud(deep dark like she said, emotional track)great remix!!!
We really hope that this track will be at the top,so deep and hypnotic with a little bit of hi nrg,…few years ago todd terry made a remix for everything but the girl-missing,now this

For Bertie, ‘Thump’ captures that “feeling of walking home late at night; your footsteps hit the pavement and your whole body pulsates. You become really aware of your breath and heartbeat”, haunting vocals soar, industrial electronics collide and the track troughs into eerie breaths of quiet throughout.

Constantly evolving as an artist, Bertie continues to develop her sound on ‘Secrets and Lies’ blending electronic influences with her signature vocal style and penchant for brutally honest lyrics in a modern exploration of pop music. “I wanted to do something more electronic and less band-oriented” says Blackman, “It’s dark, but it’s also a pop record”.

‘Secrets and Lies’ is a result of the meeting of great minds including Sydney based UK producer Lee Groves (Goldfrapp, Gwen Stefani) and Francois Tetaz (Gotye, Architecture in Helsinki), Thump was mixed by Dave Bascombe (Tears For Fears / Royksopp).

Bertie delivers pop music with depth. Her voice is seductive, her lyrics are inventive and honest and she mesmerizes as a live performer. “When I’m playing music, I just disappear into what’s going on,” she says, “it all just sort of channels through.” After launching ‘Secrets and Lies’ to sold-out shows in Melbourne and Sydney, Bertie completed a sell out Australian tour throughout August, as well as performances on the Parklife Festival alongside LaRoux, Little Boots and Metric.

The XX – Basic Space

Posted in Deep House, Downtempo, Electronic, Experimental, Hits Remixed on September 14, 2009 by dk

Hyper-young, buzzed-about Brits the xx are mysterious and sonically stylish to the point where they’re bound to be associated with all sorts of sounds– dub, punk, anything electronic– they don’t have all that much to do with. The babyfaced group’s debut album is so spare and reserved, in fact, that it lends their youth an eerie, mind-melt melancholy.

Fortunately, the band’s willing to fill in some of the blanks themselves, as xxer Jamie takes a funky, hollowed bass to the “Basic Space”, one of the several tracks from the band’s debut to have already hit. Extending the original’s careful, mannered three minutes of girl-boy interplay to just past seven minutes, “Basic Space (Jamie xx Space Bass Mix)” smears the vocals to near incomprehension; only the most attentive will pick up the breathy incantations (and, perhaps, the occasional Radiohead nod: “Where I end and you begin”). The remix adds an electronic element to the band’s shiver’n’roll, though only catatonics and the possessed could gyrate to “Basic Space”. Recommended if you’ve always thought haunted houses should be funkier, but no less haunted.(pitchfork)

Sounding seriously, honestly – unbelievably! – unlike any other pop music going” – Dazed & Confused

Nothing less than stunning. The XX are after your soul – let them have it” – NME
